  • "We ran late for our reservation and the hostess was extremely accommodating when we called. It was restaurant week, so we went with the three courses. The pork cheek appetizer was good when tempered with the accompanying basil and ricotta. My swordfish was perfect and my dining companions lamb sausage was surprisingly light, despite being such a meaty dish. We added mac and cheese but barely touched it since we were full and saving room for the dessert. The strawberry shortcake was tasty but seemed uninspired. We supplemented with the beer ice cream pretzel dessert. Our server was attentive without being obtrusive. Overall, our experience with staff was good and the food very tasty."

  • "Decided to try Roast for dinner with a girl friend to do some catching up. Very pleased with atmosphere - contemporary, leather and white birchr decor, excellent valet service, large selection of wines by the glass (loved the Reisling, don't remember the name), decided to try the roast pig which was the special that evening (absolutely delicious!). Waiter was excellent, let us chat as long as we wished. Plan to head back with my husband soon!"

  • "The food was a tastebud frenzy. So yummy. Had the pork cheek for appetizer, wood grilled pork with kale and raspberry mustarda. Such an original and phenomenal flavor combo. I have never eaten anything here that wasn't a 10. Everyone should eat here to know what food should taste like. I have never, ever added salt, pepper or any condiments ever to any dish. That would be a sin. Micheal Symon makes food taste good when he serves it. So good. You gotta go"

It is an expensive place, and as someone who has never been to Roast before, it was a perfect way to experience all the restaurant has to offer without breaking the bank!"

  • "Yes we had a lovely evening eating the Beast at Roast. All 4 of our meals were simply delectable. The service was grand and the appetizers were excellent. We also enjoyed the bread especially the 9 grain variety. yes, this restaurant is a little pricey but it is well worth it when everything and I mean everything that you order is cooked to perfection. It is very nice to have a wonderful restaurant like Roast is the city of Detroit. Thank you Michael Symon"

  • "Dinner at Roast was everything we hoped it would be. Appetizer shared was delicious and unique, dinner was amazing! We are so happy that we ordered something a little unusual trusting it to be delicious because it was. The best part, however, was dessert. We ordered two desserts to share so we could taste both but when I tried the Peanut Butter Bread Pudding with Banana ice cream that was placed before me...I know no longer wanted to share! Quite possibly the most delicious thing I have ever tried! The only thing we did not care for were the cocktails, a little too strong for me. But that is to be expected if you are not really drinkers."

  • "Got flesh? Huge portions of well-prepared red meat dominate, with a few stews and fish offerings. Steak tartare outstanding, for those who like it raw. Food pricing is very fair for the quality / quantity of what your getting. Service and server knowledge impeccable. But some issues: the rooms are large, open and can be LOUD when crowded. Tables are close enough together that there's no escaping the noise from a shrieking party of six. Disappointed not to find a single lamb dish on the menu. Wine list is excellent but very young -- and bring money. Except for the by-the-glass offerings, many more bottles over $100 than under. While this may be good for their bottom line, most people don't normally accompany $30 entrees with $150 bottles."

  • "Not saying that Roast isn't a very good restaurant; it's just missing something from the past. The food was very good; not great. Pacing and good temperature were uneven. The service was adequate; nothing special. And really surprised by the reaction to what should be a restaurant's biggest nightmare: glass in my food (our sweetbreads appetizer). Luckily, no damage, but both the server and the manager were quite nonchalant; thanking me for pointing it out, but no apology. The manager even suggested what I thought was glass was really the end of a plastic bar pic that they use for prep -- it was not; curved and definitely glass. Did they remove the charge from the bill? No, brought us an un-asked for order of brussel sprouts. Wow."

The food was amazing, the service was excellent, just not thrilled about the Decore and the ambience. I have paid much less for much nicer, less pretentious restaurants. Overall, absolutely would go back."

  • "Roast is the favorite restaurant for my wife and I to dine at for special occasions. I wish that I could dine there weekly. The service is phenomenol. The food is at the level and exceeds the expectations of any fine dining establishment in MetroDetroit. We shared the 30 day aged rib eye this time and although it came with delicious accompanying items, the meat was fabulous alone. The appetizers, salads and soup were incredible. Instead of wine this time, we tried a couple of the craft beers. I believe that many people do not realize the extensive list of craft beers at Roast. Our server was excellent, as was the accompanying staff. Once again, five star treatment and experience."

The wait staff were prompt and attentive, and the food selection went from the typical (excellent filets, juicy pork chops) to unique dishes like duck prepared 2 ways, and oxtail. The sides are easily "shareable", so don't let the prices scare you on this heavily a la carte menu..."

  • "I ordered the veal chop. "Chef recommends it medrare or medium." I ordered it medium rare. It arrived well done. The second one came out. About 1/4 of the chop was medium rare, the rest was well done. I feel that by the chef recommending the temp, that it would be cooked to that temp without issue... but apparently not the case. The woodfired clam app, was chewy, messy, and forgettable. The brussel sprouts are phenomenal! Best thing to ever happen to a brussel sprout. Rosemary fries were also flavorful and wonderful. The service was very good. The ipad style drink menu was frustrating. Overall, I wouldn't spend $200 for 2 people there again. Oh, the mixed drinks were also very good. Go there for mixed drinks and brussel sprouts."

  • "Can't wait to return! The food is great. Pork belly starter was good but next time will probably try the beef cheek pierogi. The pork shank confit is amazing! My husband had the beast of the day which was suckling pig. He said it was good but he wished he would have gotten the shank confit. We got mushrooms and brussel sprouts for sides, they were fantastic! Seriously you must get the brussel sprouts! Dessert was great as well, had The Bar and coconut sorbet. Loved perusing the drink menu on an iPad and marking our selections. Finally, our server Brandon was fabulous. Gave great recommendations, not rushed even though he was very busy. Just a wonderful dining experience."

  • "I made reservations for my boyfriends birthday and our four year anniversary! I requested a quiet table away from the crowd and that's what we got! The service was excellent along with the food and the ambience. Our entire dining experience was perfect and we will definitely be returning! Our glasses also were never empty! Our server was very knowledgable and very polite. The food from the clams, the salad and minestrone soup the best soup I've ever had. We ordered Porterhouse for two and was more than enough. The spinach and feta au gratin was delicious. We didn't order dessert way too much food! If you want to dine make sure you have a reservation! Best dining experience!"

It was also my boyfriend's birthday, so when we ordered dessert, they put a candle and a happy birthday chocolate on it.   • "We reserved a private table behind the bar, which was elegant and romantic. Overall we enjoyed the food, wine and ambience. Our dinner was not without some glitches though. The extensive wine list was provided on an iPad. After selecting a specific vintage Rhone red, we were delivered and poured a different vintage without being shown the bottle. Although I resented the server and manager's attempts to minimize the mistake, we were eventually comped the bottle - a fair resolution from a restaurant that prides themselves on their wine list. The marrow was devine. The porterhouse was thick and presented well. The sauce served on the steak was overwhelming and sweet . I would have preferred it served on the side. We will return."
