"This restaurant has the food and the service of a 5-star restaurant with a calm atmosphere. It is more casual than most fine dining resturants (servers wear jeans), but still has a "fancy" feel. We got lucky and got sat in the back room, but we could have just as easily been sat near the bar which was pretty loud and energetic. Overall, I was very pleased."

"Party of 4. Two of my guests had trip steaks; both were about 25% gristle and fat and both said they would never order them again; the edible portions were apparently excellent. I and another guest had pork dishes which were very good. The appetizers, bone marrow, brussel sprouts, and pork belly were exellent; the french fires were average at best. One split dessert, creme brulee, was excellent. Wine prices were reasonable.

"The food was excellent and the staff was more than helpful in giving recommendations for appetizers and drinks. There is no shortage of wine and beer selections at Roast, so the patience of the staff and advice on what would be good to try was extremely helpful. Food was top notch and the fried brussel sprouts are worth the trip alone. Great restaurant in the heart of downtown Detroit!"

"My third or fourth time to Roast. Not as good as other times I have been there. Ribeye was quite a bit more than "marbled". Gristle made some parts of the steak tough. Should have probably sent it back. Duck was very good as we're sides."

"My wife and I went for a romantic dinner and she is pregnant. She ordered the duck confit pasta, and it came with considerable Parmesan cheese (which was not mentioned on the menu). My wife asked if the cheese was pasteurized, and the waitress incorrectly stated that all cheese in the US is pasteurized (wrong!). She took the cheese off and ate. I ordered the rib eye steak medium rare, and it came to the table very well done. The waitress took it back for a medium rare steak, and it arrived at the table 20 minutes later! Usually Roast has much better service and a better informed staff. Highly disappointing."
