Diner Reviews
  • "While vacationing, my wife and I found the restaurant near our hotel. It was a great find. We loved the place, the service, food, wine list were all over the top. A good call for a memorable meal."

  • "This restaurant was a good find for dinner out while in Austin. While we had a few small glitches with our food, the maitre'd took care of it and we were extremely impressed by the wait staff and management. The queso appetizer was fabulous as was the creme broulee dessert. If you like steaks for the taste of the meat, go with the filet as the bone-in ribeye was heavily spiced. Overall, we would definitely come back again....and again!"

  • "My husband and I ate there for the first time on our anniversary. I wanted a restaurant with a romantic atmosphere and great food. We were not disappointed. We had reservations but just ended up sitting at the bar. The bartenders were very busy but still attentive and friendly. Fish tacos and Mexican street corn were DELICIOUS."

  • "This place was way too "chainy". not much personality. There were high school prom kids there. just not our type of place. Service was fine but the food was terrible. My steak was overcooked and way over salted. The cauliflower we orderd was cold. The chili appetizer was the only thing that was decent. We will not be back and I don't recommend anyone going there. Plus the place was not busy at all, yet the valet was "full". the guy just said "too bad" and he got to stand around reading a magazine"

  • "My husband and I met an old friend for dinner to celebrate a 4th birthday and baby news! We waited while the hostess stacked and organized menus. No one else was waiting. We were seated at a nice table with a happy birthday card for our friend *nice touch. Our waiter was less than enthusiastic about the features or recommendations. He was great at keeping glasses filled. Our food came and yikes. I ordered scallops with no salad as it was explained it sat on a bed of salad. It was 4 small scallops on a piece of lettuce. All our portions were appetizer size. Which, okay, but let us know that so we can order more food. It tasted great, but we left dissatisfied."

  • "The food and atmosphere was really wonderful. Our waitress is the reason we probably will not return. We saw her visit other tables quite frequently and it took her a very long time to take our drink orders or stop by the table to check on food or if everything was ok. It seems the other waiters visited there tables, big or small, often. The food was really amazing which allowed us to still enjoy the night."

  • "This has been a favorite downtown restaurant for lunch or dinner. Food is always great. This last visit, the redfish was off - too fishy tasting, but very rare that there is any problem with food or service."

  • "The service was excellent, the food was great. It is a go to place."

  • "Made reservation for dinner with a friend & her spouse who were in town for a family wedding. Our party size doubled at the last minute with other family members joining us. Staff graciously made it work, and we had an excellent dinner and a great time. Server was patient when we were more interested in visiting than ordering. Kudos to the excellent Roaring Fork staff!"

  • "My wife and I work several blocks in each direction on 7th from the Roaring Fork and it's a great place to meet for lunch. She's a pescatarian and there are always great options for her there. In fact, both times we've eaten there recently, fish was the special of the day. I am a big fan of burgers and they don't disappoint. A lot of places like to smash them flat, but the Roaring Fork serves up a good thick, juicy burger. I have yet to have a waiter/waitress that isn't well-versed in the menu. This last time, at the waiters recommendation, I tried the Green Chile Enchiladas. They were excellent!"

  • "We are all three gluten free. We were taken care of very well. We had a salad, steaks and dessert. The steaks were amazing! The salad was very good and the flour-less chocolate torte was fantastic. The Roaring Fork did a fantastic job, so why only four out of five stars? Its difficult to say what was missing...it just wasn't the best meal that I have ever had but it was very good. There was just not that "wow!" factor that so many restaurants in Austin hit. If you are looking for a solid steakhouse with great service with a Texas history theme, I would recommend the Roaring Fork."

  • "The staff was extremely attentive from the moment we stepped in the door and continued to be throughout a very long business meeting lunch. They were warm, professional and talented. Great atmosphere."

  • "The location is very convenient if you're in the immediate area. They'll book your reservation, show you to your table, and all of that very professionally. The waiter was on his game and very efficient. We ate from the lunch selections and the three of us had the trout, salmon, and chicken. The waiter asked if it's OK that the salmon is cooked to medium with a little bit of pink in the middle. I was thinking, "why do they ask? It's gonna get cooked however it gets cooked." The Salmon was very overcooked with burnt tips. The trout was overcooked. The chicken was just plain ole chicken and lacked seasinging. Go here for convenience, but that's about it. The food is not good."

  • "To be honest, I might not have eaten here if it weren't for SXSW filling up some of our first choices for dinner. I ordered the blackened redfish with a side of Mexican corn and it was delish. Everything on the table looked amazing, especially the burger on of my guests ordered. Founder's margarita was tasty. Service was good. I will def be back."

  • "This is a very comfortable restaurant. We had a delicious meal at the Roaring Fork before attending a very entertaining film (Take Care) at SXSW. Great evening!!"

  • "We loved the environment for a nice anniversary dinner...a very cozy atmosphere. My husband ordered the short ribs as they had been recommended on yelp earlier. Well, they were very fatty and even worse, you could not see the fat as it was hidden by the bbq sauce. My redfish, however, was delicious and I highly recommend it. We had mixed drinks and were very happy with these. The waitress was very nice but was in a hurry to get our orders and then did not check back with us as needed to fill drink glasses and just to check out for any further needs."

  • "An excellent start to a weekend. Aiden, parking valet, was fast, friendly and helpful, the server was attentive but not annoying. Her wine suggestion was spot-on. The amuse bouche was a fun, tasty little surprise, but the crown of the meal was the rainbow trout. Cooked perfectly, delicious and interesting seasoning, well-seasoned and slightly crunchy green beans. The best surprise for me, though was the cherry pie. It's an individual pie, with the sweet and the tart of cherry balanced and yummy; the surprise was that this is a restaurant that knows how to bake a crust! If you're a ... what would you call it?... a crust-o-phile like me, this is reason enough to make Roaring Fork a regular stop on the eating out circuit."

  • "Service (Emma) was outstanding, not hovering or chatty. Noise level: "Energetic" really? No, let's call it what it is - loud! "Romantic" you ask? I can't hear you! I couldn't hear any music or even atmospheric tinkling of forks. Seemed like every guest was nearly yelling because of acoustics - that needs work to transform the otherwise very good experience into a classy one."

  • "Simple selection with near-perfect execution. The service is happy to accommodate any changes to a dish, although every one we ordered was a hit."

  • "Everything was delightful. The service was attentive without being pushy helpful and very knowledgeable regarding the menu and wine. the manager visited our table to deliver us a petit amuse bouche, because we were celebrating our anniversary it was just something they did... I will definitely go back as there were many other options on the menu that sounded delicious. I would highly recommend the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, even if mostly for the sides."

  • "My girlfriend and I dined here on Saturday 2/22 - we had 7:00 reservations, showed up at 6:45 and were seated promptly. Our waiter was very friendly. The food was good (we ordered the kettle of green chile pork as an appetizer; I had the pork carnitas as an entree, and she had the beef tenderloin salad). We both left there as full as we have ever been. The negatives: I had only an iced tea (and water) to drink, and it was like pulling teeth to get either one refilled. At one point I was sitting there with both glasses empty for easily five minutes. Also, we asked for a couple of extra tortillas to finish off the appetizer, and they charged us $1.50 for them. Seems awful "nickel and dime"-y for a restaurant of this caliber."

  • "Roaring forks was a great dining experience. The location in a historic hotel, ambiance, food and service were excellent! I would go back any time. The Chile Mac side was super! But then everything was equally fantastic. My wife loves salads and said the Waldorf salad was the best ever! Don't miss this restaurant when downtown Austin. Oh, very easy to park Valet at the hotel too. Very reasonable for the overall dining experience."

  • "I have been here several times with my daughter who lives in Austin. It has a great location in downtown to walk to. A great food experience in Austin which will never disappoint one! Go and enjoy a bit of Austin!"

  • "Everything was amazing. We started with the scallop entree as our first appetizer, and paired with a bottle of brut. I highly recommend the combination. Every course after that was just as good. Our server, Josh, was absolutely on point as well. He never missed a detail, and was very friendly and funny throughout dinner. Great wine list with many affordable bottles, and awesome food. Overall it was a very memorable experience. We will be back."

  • "We have visited this restaurant numerous times and our number one reason for returning is the quality and taste of the food. We visit all the high end restaurants in Austin consistently and find the food at the Roaring Forks by far the tastiest."

  • "I've heard great things about this place so needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I know we went on valentine's day, a very busy night for them, but for the price of the food I was expecting more. My fiancée ordered the seared scallops which was dissapointing. His plate consisted of 3 small pieces of scallops at 24 dollars for the plate I think he was honestly expecting something more. My $50 steak was just okay, at that price I wanted to be wowed as this girl loves her steak. Not too sure if I'll give this place another go anytime soon."

  • "Setting aside the steak, everything from salad to desert, including the other entree we ordered, was quite good, and the service was excellent. The ribeye, though, while cooked to proper temperature, was a disappointment, which is why I am only giving three stars for the food. It was a little over salted, but more importantly it didn't have any crusting at all, and lacked the beefy taste and chew one expects when paying $42. Would I recommend this place? Probably. But get something other than a steak."

  • "We had a very nice time at Roaring Fork downtown. We were initially seated in a very dark area that was cold. But, when we asked to be moved, we were accommodated immediately to a much more comfortable location. Service was great. Food was great. Unfortunately, we did not have an unlimited budget. Would have loved to try one of the steaks, but too rich for my blood. Great night over all."

  • "The rainbow trout was excellent! As was the steak my husband had. Service was very good and the overall feel of the restaurant was comfy, romantic. Will be going back."

  • "My boyfriend and I just could not decide where to go for our 2nd anniversary. After feeling as though we could not find the right mix of classy but not snooty/pretentious, my boyfriend brought up how he always sees that the Roaring Fork is pretty popular and that we should try it out. We sat in a large booth and It was really intimate, yet lively. I loved that we felt alone but a part of the scene. The food that we ordered was well worth the price, if anything, it was a bargain! Also, our server was AWESOME. I can't remember her name, but she has short, dark hair and wears glasses. We loved her and we talked about how we would definitely come back, just for her! She was so bubbly and made us feel quite comfortable and relaxed/happy. Thanks!"

  • "We visited Roaring Fork to celebrate my wife's birthday. Service was great and the food was excellent. They even brought out a free appetizer to celebrate the occasion without having been prompted or asked to do so. The place has always been one of our favorites and didn't disappoint."

  • "Everything was great except the service. Our waiter seemed so rushed. We usually get a chance to interact with our servers and Saturday night this did not happen. It was very disappointing because part of the fun of dining out is having fun with the people that work at the restaurant."

  • "We've dined here many times, including just eating at the bar. Tortilla soup is the best! Had their salmon cooked on a cedar plank and it was outstanding. My wife had the small filet and it was very good!"
