Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of our favorite places for celebrating special occasions. The food is always amazing and the service is top-notch. We've been many times over the years, and have never been disappointed."

  • "My wife got a filet mignon and I immediately regretted my choice of a salad (though the salad was exceptional). We will be going back."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "Our server was attentive at just the right level - right there when we needed her, not hanging around when we didn't. The rainbow trout entree was superb - done perfectly with a delicious brown butter. One of the best fish entrees I've had in years. Grouper entree was also delicious but not up to the level of the trout. Nice wine list and a choice of craft beers."

  • "Will definitely go back, wait staff and manager were very friendly. Food was excellent."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Please bring yourself to dallas. Everything was executed to perfection. Get a new valet service, I don't think I should have to wait for him to finish paragraph or wave to him to get his attention when we drive up."

  • "Our food was good, but the restaurant is somewhat loud. The prices are fair for the quality and amount of food. Green chili mac and cheese and the street corn were amazing. Waiter was good and knowledgeable about offerings. Need more farm to table offerings."

  • "The best steak I've ever had.. hands down!! I had requested a view of Congress since it was a fun girls night, and they of course were able to make that happen. Our waitress was super knowledgeable about the wines/drinks and was extremely friendly. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Food was great! Service was OK but could have been better - a few missed details from the order and not as attentive as it should have been for follow ups and refills. Overall, a good experience."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "This is a great spot for the downtown crowd to grab lunch. With a reservation, you can get seated pretty much immediately. Prices aren't bad for such a place, and the food's pretty good too."

  • "My wife and I went for lunch. Food was good, cocktails were very good and the restroom were clean. I would recommend this place for a place to catch lunch off the 6th street vibe."

  • "Was visiting Austing for a quick business trip and discovered this great downtown gem. My group loved everything from the fresh guacamole to the heirloom salad that was a special for the night. The flavors were quite a treat!"

  • "My only complaint is the parking situation. Yes, they offer valet, but at $7 plus what you'll have to tip, it's a shame it's so hard to find affordable parking downtown."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at the RF preceded by libation in the bar. Great service both places! Food was well prepared and our server very attentive checking back several times to assure our satisfaction. Definitely would return!"

  • "Loved our dinner at RF! Food and service were great, yet prices are reasonable. Great location and great ambiance."

  • "After visiting many food trucks on our trip to Austin we were ready for an upscale restaurant meal. The service was impeccable. Ask for Lauren. He was fun and easily point us in the right direction many times. The pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon is outrageous. As were the sides of mushrooms and spinach. Excellent. The only thing I would recommend against are the salads. Rather bland and uninteresting."

  • "A great place to meet friends and enjoy an excellent steak."

  • "Our server Heather was busy as our party dined in the middle of lunch rush hour yet she couldn't have been more gracious or more helpful. Daily special (salmon) was amazing."

  • "I've eaten at the Stonelake location and thought it was much better all the way around. I think downtown location just okay. Not quite what I was expecting"

  • "Probably the best steak I've had in years. You know it's good when you hear a low "mmmmm" from both your parents."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Everything was great except it was very hot inside. The air conditioning couldn't keep up. Maybe it's because our table was close to the kitchen."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "We had the short ribs, redfish and chicken, and the mussels appetizer. Ribs were so tender and sauce excellent. Redfish sauce and presentation amazing. Chicken pretty good but not spectacular."

  • "So the service here was really what set it apart for me. That and the $7.50 Mexican Martini...I'm just saying. It was delicious. My boyfriend and I went here after our lackluster experience at Hudson's on the Bend the night before, and I'm so glad we did - it really redeemed our trip to Austin! The wedge salad was super fresh, the ribeye was cooked and seasoned wonderfully (and plenty big enough to share!), and the mexican street corn, while not as creamy as I would've expected, was clearly made fresh in the kitchen. I didn't have dessert (I was still working through my count em, THIRD refill of my martini glass off my one Mexican Martini) but my boyfriend really enjoyed the chocolate/toffee/pecan pie. :)"

  • "The atmosphere here is pretty much split- quiet and dark on one side, noisy and vibrant on the other and they seem to size you up at the door. It worked out well for us and we had a great meal (highly recommend the bacon wrapped pork loin) with a view of Congress Ave, and even with the bar noise beside us, the booth we had was quiet enough for conversation. Service was exquisite. The manager brought a second amuse-bouche that was food allergy friendly for one of us, which was totally unexpected and very thoughtful. All in all, a wonderful experience. "

  • "I am torn. The flavors of the food were excellent, but there was a consistent lack of attention to detail that surprised us. The big issue was bringing out a "medium" steak that was closer to well done. My wife accepted it because she does not like to cause problems. When the server asks you to cut into the middle of the steak and he sees no pink, he should say that it is well done and not medium. He can then ask if you are OK with it being well done. We ordered the creme brulee and the caramelized sugar was burnt. The creme brulee portion was excellent, but the burnt sugar ruined it for us. They missed several other details that would have made the experience so much better. It could have been great. I am not likely to return."

  • "We visit Austin every year and this is always one of our stops. The food is always fantastic and the service is top-notch and friendly. Whatever you order, be sure to get a side of the Mexican Street Corn!"

  • "This restaurant is located on the first floor of the historic Stephen F. Austin hotel and the southwest/cowboy decor certainly sets the mood for the dining experience. We enjoyed the creative variations on old favorites and would gladly recommend this restaurant to our friends."

  • "Great food, service and atmosphere! Took some friends who are very particular about food and they enjoyed everything down to the desserts! Great place to go in a date or with friends! We will be back! "

  • "I have mixed feelings about Downtown RF. It's a very nice place with good atmosphere. The food we ordered was delicious but the steak was a bit overpriced IMO and sides were a'la cart which added to the tab. $30-40 for a 10 or so oz. steak (tenderloin in my case) plus $6 or so for sides. Seriously? I also expected better service for being a quasi-upscale restaurant. For some reason staff likes to continually clear your table as you eat removing items like butter knives and side plates. It seems minor but gets annoying as they grab things without asking. One server brought our food out and another gave us our bill. Our quiet waitress never stopped by to ask how everything was or to say thanks. I may go back but will find steak elsewhere."

  • "My friend and I got the tortilla soup. It was not my favorite. The consistency of the broth was more like tomato soup so I wasn't a huge fan. However, I got the salmon over a bed of leafy greens with julienne apples. The salmon was very good (if not a little heavy handed on the pepper). It was expertly cooked. The salad was delicious as well as the dressing. My friend enjoyed the wagyu burger although the bun was enormous for the portion of the burger (nearly twice the size). Overall, pretty good and I would return again. The service was attentive and prompt with bringing the bill."

  • "My wife and I were going to the symphony so we made an early reservation for dinner at RF downtown. We arrived early and were seated right away. The setting was very rustic. the lighting was perfect (not too dim like other places) and noise level was ideal; intimate enough to not have to yell to hear each other. The muffins to start off were warm and delicious. We decided to skip appetizer and just order a salad. The salad was by far the best Caesar we've tasted in Austin. We ordered fish (trout and fish tacos) and both tasted great with lots of flavor; especially liked the capers on the trout. For dessert we had pecan pie and it was amazing. The slice was in a thick crust & came with ice cream. This could be our favorite restaurant now!"

  • "When I booked my reservation at the Roaring Fork, I was excited because I expected good food and beautiful scenery. The scenery was in fact gorgeous, but the food was anything but. My date and I ordered a New York Strip steak and pork shoulder carnitas. The food was disgusting. The steak was overcooked and tasted like someone had tossed it into the fire. It was dry and disgusting and not in any way shape or form worth $45. I was utterly disgusted and disappointed. The pork carnitas were crunchy. CRUNCHY. That is the most tender part of the pork, and it was crunchy. I was very upset. Thank god I also ordered green chili mac and cheese, or I would have starved to death. Next time I will go to Chillis."

  • "I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary at a place my husband had never been to. I had been to RF for lunch a few years ago. I had never used Open Table, and very pleased, even a last minute change in reservation time worked out. The hostess was so personable, saying she would pass on that we were there for a special occasion. We received a warm greeting from our server, then a visit from the manager with a token complimentary appetizer in honor of the occasion. The food was excellent, tasty and very appealing. We ordered dessert and maybe not to our surprise, but still sweet, the plate had Happy Anniversary written with the chocolate drizzle. This was also comped. I just appreciate the personal touches. "

  • "We were a little disappointed in having made reservations ahead of time and then being seated in the bar area when we arrived. The restaurant was not busy. Our waiter was not as polished as other wait staff from our prior dining experiences, and mistakes were made throughout the evening starting with our wine order and ending with our food order. The mistakes were corrected (mostly by other staff) and we were not charged for food that arrived later in our dinner. We noted that the folks at the next table had similar issues. My entree was not hot when it was served to me--not sure if that was the fault of the waiter or the kitchen. We like Roaring Fork and will return, but next time we will specify a table in the dining room. "
