RN74Very good but overpriced comparedVery good but overpriced compared to comparable dining experiences.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMdon't miss....We had a wonderful dinner at this san Francisco highly recommended restaurant and it did not disappoint. In particular the truffle macaroni sauce on the chicken dish was incredible! Great service too -- it is an energetic atmosphere.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat recommendationHad a great experience at RN74. The atmosphere is lively and the food is fantastic. The heirloom tomato and blue cheese salad was wonderful, as was the halibut in a coconut/lime butter broth. The chicken breast with truffle macaroni was outstanding. The wine list is extensive and the service was very attentive. We went to many fine restaurants in Napa Valley and SF and this was one of the best. Will go back on our next trip to SF.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in ClassMy husband and I have been celebrating our anniversary at RN74 for the past 3 years and we love it even more every passing year. The crew is always super friendly and knowledgeable. They make us feel as if we are in our own home. The wine pairings are great and the personalized "Happy Anniversary" card manages to put a huge smile on my face every single time!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AM2nd time even better than the firstWe'd dined at RN74 once before, and they were incredibly gracious when a lack of cabs got us there very late, so I was already inclined to love again, but I can say that this visit was even better than last time. We were a group of four this time, and decided to share a bunch of small plates, and they rolled with it, setting their pace to ours and allowing us to have a leisurely catch-up with our friends. Audrey the sommelier was superb, and steered us to two bottles that we might not have otherwise tried - one was soooo good I was tempted to hog it for myself! We'll be back when we're in SF again.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRN74 $$It was good. But it was snobby. And it was wildly expensive compared to other great SF restaurants. $14+ for a plain butter lettuce salad that had no personality? That was the low point. Excellent burgundy? The high point.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been disappointed withI've been disappointed with my entre every time I've been to RN74.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWow good! The quality of the food was outstanding. I had the paperdelle and my colleague had the arctic char. We also split the beet salad. All were off the charts great. The mix of the mushrooms and the asparagus in the paperdelle was unique and delectable. The beets were huge and remarkably tasty. A memorably good lunch.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service!RN74 is a real gem! This was the best bar set-up I have ever seen - there is a set of tables and chairs where you can relax behind the bar when waiting for a table. It almost makes you forget that you are waiting for a table. Brilliant!
Recognizing we wanted to take our time at the bar and chat, the staff gave us a table more conducive to chatting than we originally requested. The food was great! One item I will note is that West Coast Oysters are smaller and prepared differently from East Coast Oysters - nothing negative, just wanted to note it.
RN74, wonderful staff, vibrant atmosphere, great food!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AManother great eveningThis is a great place for all sorts of events - a personal dinner for two or a whole group. This time I was there on business - with a foreign visitor from a very different culture. Staff was so accommodating to his special/unique needs, even diners at adjacent tables were very polite and accommodating. It is a very loud place, but in a good way - everyone having a great time, so it's more people buzz than just blasting music. While this time wasn't meant to be a test, it passed with flying colors, so I can vouch for it being a great place for just about any purpose/group dinner out, not just for the usual date or fun group.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and ServiceI have eaten at this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. I usually get the Duck Confit, which has always been stellar. However, with a few changes to the menu, I ordered the cured yellow tail as an appetizer and the Croque Madam for a main course. These dishes were even better than my usual favorite. A great place to take clients for lunch in the Financial District.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed RN74Loved the energy and design of RN74. Food did not disappoint and was well presented. Would have given a rating of 5 across the board but service slowed so that my dining companion chose to finish the meal before dessert. Waiter did a fine job with wine pairing for the lamb chops which were scrumptious.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMDragged down by service!Food was executed very well although they were out of the item I picked around 8:30. Wine list was amazingly rich and versatile. So far so good. BUT, all the praising for food and wine dissipated down by the way our table was served. The waiter was not attentive I assume because of the number of tables he was trying to cover. We had to wait for long time to grab his attention and each time it took a long time for him to deliver the help. The person who presented the bottle of wine, was just not caring at all about the fun of it and seemed quite uninterested in what he was doing. Also, I don't care if it is a $200 bottle or $2000 bottle, you deliver it to your patrons with care and respect. He did not present the bottle cork either....5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI was really looking forwardI was really looking forward to lunch at RN74 because the Croque Madame, of which I had fond memories, was back on the memory. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good this time as it was the last time I had it. However, the vanilla custard, which was sort of a deconstructed creme brulee, was outstanding. As usual, service was exceptional.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSplendid experienceCreative cocktails, artful presentation of delicious food and superior and attentive service5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent, the onlyFood was excellent, the only disappointment were the Bignets(sp?)
The train station ambience is clever and unique.
Slick looking crowd on a Saturday night.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish! Thanks for the great food and service. Will keep coming back!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding experienceWe had a great time, my girlfriends birthday and we were out for FUN. From the start to the finish a exceptional experience. Our waiter was very personable and took great care of us. The Tuna Cruso was to die for, the mushroom pasta paired beautifully with the Burgundy, and the wine list was beyond approach. We even had the opportunity to chat it up wity Raj their Sommelier, a man after my own heart, or should I say he helps me with my Burgundy addiction.
Thanks to all the staff, you made our afternoon an outstanding experience!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMust GoLove it
I have been twice in 3 weeks and will be going back very soon
great spot!!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT DINNER SPOTWe attended RN74 on a recommendation and what a great one it was. Terrific ambience, service and food. I could not be critical of one thing at this restaurant. It wasn't cheap, but great food in San Francisco and such good service............what do you expect?
The food was great. Waiting staff who knew what they were talking about, weren't pretentious and knew about the wines and food. The lighting and the setting were excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly and afterwards, I just left feeling I had a great dinner and would want to go back again in future.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful serviceI went to RN74 to celebrate a special occasion with a group of friends. The restaurant asked what the occasion was and unexpectedly provided us with a bit of champagne to celebrate. Overall the staff was very friendly and helped us with choosing an excellent wine for dinner as well. Of course the food was very tasty and well prepared.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal. ExtensiveExcellent meal. Extensive wine list including a special list of less than $100 bottles.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMStill SavoringOur fourth visit together and had another great experience, probably our best yet! Each dish memorable visually and for taste. We had the beets and burrata, grilled squid, halibut, pork belly, coffee eclair and, of course, the beignets. No clear favorite, although the grilled squid tastes are still fresh on our palette.
Noise level better than most restaurants, energetic but we could talk and hear each other, what a novelty!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRN74 was a very good experience.RN74 was a very good experience. Food was very good as was the presentation and creativness. Menu is relatively small for main courses, but their kitchen excels with each dish. Price was very fair for this type of restuarant. I have paid much more for similar type food where the taste and quality was not as good.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant when youGreat restaurant when you are in the mood for something a little different. The menu has a few entree selections, but there is something for everyone there. Service is great; staff is friendly and efficient. This is definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion, and they seem to accommodate groups quite well.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSales CallI had a sales business lunch at RN74 and my prospect was quite happy with my restaurant selection and was pleased with the fact that there was plenty of vegetarian choices. Did not make a sale but made a good lasting impression.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable meal and admirableEnjoyable meal and admirable wine and cocktail selection, however service frequency could be better. Maybe the wait staff are stretched to thin across too many tables?4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently high quality dining. My first time at RN74, though clearly I was late to the party given the crowd. A truly extensive wine list featured French mainstays at high prices, but the slightly more obscure wines were under-represented. The surprisingly informal but truly knowledgeable sommelier saved the day by directing me to a separate section of special picks.
The bone marrow appetizer was very good, although the gremolata over-represented and the "bacon marmalade" too crumbly and hard to work with. The octupus first course was excellent; balanced flavors and great textures. My wagyu main was rich and delicious and my dining companion's duck was cooked and sauced perfectly.
I left happy with a consistently very good, but not amazing, dining experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place is too pricey! This place is too pricey! I ordered the scallop and it is way salty. Desser is great. It might be a good place for treating your customer but I won't come here again out of my own pocket.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place for Business lunch...peGreat Place for Business lunch...perfect for conversation!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting concept. TemptingInteresting concept. Tempting to have only appetizers even though mains look wonderful too. Need more wines at lower price points.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always good andThe food is always good and the service is excellent.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brunch was one of theThe brunch was one of the best I have ever had. They only do brunch two times per year and I would highly recommend checking out their unique menu. Easter and Mother's Day.... Enjoy!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic octopus salad withFantastic octopus salad with a mix of subtle flavors.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHaven't been for some time.Haven't been for some time. Revamped menu made it hard to make choices. Of course we gorged on the fried brussels sprouts, and I had a great salad and Spanish squid which was excellent. Shared a meyer lemon tart--a little sweet perfect for ending the meal.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was very good -Everything was very good - esp. the food - but i was given caffenated coffee when I asked for de-caf AND I asked the bus person when she was pouring if it was de-caf and she said yes - but i don't think she understood much. I wanted to call her - or somebody at 2:15am when I was still trying to get to sleep.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, however loud musicGreat food, however loud music and expect to pay 3x retail for wine priced under $1503/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat everything! A must try.I've eaten here twice now and I can't describe how good the food is. Their menu items are very unique (not in a weird way), flavorful, and come in good sized portions. Deserts are fantastic and creative as well. The service is impeccable. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Decor is what I would call French modern, but comfortable. Prices are decent too for the quality and portions. I highly recommend RN74.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, exemplary serviceAmazing food, exemplary service and an extraordinary wine list3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMIt took 2 years for us toIt took 2 years for us to get back to RN74, and we weren't disappointed. Menu choices, Food, wine, desserts all wonderful. And so was the service, particularly the kind unpretentious assistance of the sommelier.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious upscale bistro fareSurprisingly HUGE portions, they should charge a tad less for an actual starter portion for one person. The wine list is fantastic, but be prepared to splurge as there are only a handful of bottles under $75.3/3/2013 12:00:00 AMRN74 continues to be one ofRN74 continues to be one of my favorite dining destinations. The food is top notch (after all, this is a Michael Mina restaurant!). The service is great and the maitre d' is always kind and welcoming. I usually come here for their Sunday supper which is one of the best deals in town, considering the quality of ingredients and presentations of the dishes. But one of the best reasons I love coming here is because their superb wine selection. All hits...3/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I enjoyed aMy husband and I enjoyed a lovely experience at RN74!1/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner was outstanding. HadDinner was outstanding. Had the hangar steak short rib combination dish which was amazing....paired with a Premier Cru red. Great atmosphere, too!1/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fantastic dinnerWe had a fantastic dinner with some friends from L.A. who were really impressed with the food. Duck was fantastic, as was the hangar steak. Excellent wines at a reasonable mark up! We will be back.1/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench food and fine wineWhat can I say, this place had it all... great food and great service. RN74 appealed to the modern French cuisine, with a great wine list to boot. I also recall it being a great place for groups as there is a huge table in the back for larger groups. Our waiter was good, and everyone was very friendly. It can be romantic, but the tables were very close to each other. The night we went, which we thought was going to be a slow night, our neighbor's conversation sort of spilled into our conversation, so noise was a small issue for us. However, I would recommend RN74 to anyone.12/24/2012 12:00:00 AMThis is my second time forThis is my second time for their Sunday evening dinner specials. As before, it was a very good experience. The food was superb and the maitre 'd was very friendly, as was my server. This week's special featured short ribs, one of my favorites. 3 course at a premier restaurant for $39? Great deal. Will need to return sometime soon, perhaps next month.12/9/2012 12:00:00 AMI came here for the SundayI came here for the Sunday evening dinner and the food was outstanding! I had their Sunday dinner special for $39 and it was one of the best deals I've had the pleasure of eating. The quality of the food, along with the staggering wine selection continues to make this place one of my favorites.12/2/2012 12:00:00 AMYelling over a great mealRN74 is with out a doubt a great place for foodies with lungs to yell. From the looks of it, it's a quiet, romantic eatery, but due to the bar that takes up 1/3 of the restaurant, the noise level is usually pretty loud. If you're looking for a quiet place to dine with your date, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an upbeat place with great food, this is your place.9/15/2012 12:00:00 AM
