A word from RM Champagne Salon
Opening August 2, 2012

RM, simply put, is Grower Champagne. The designation RM is derived from the French wine Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system’s classification of Champagne Houses; Récoltants Manipulants (RM), signifies an artisanal farmer who bottles his own wine. Celebrating this passion and care, the salon will pay homage to these growers that rely solely on fruit from their own vineyards with inherently distinct terroir. Bringing a balance of knowledge and passion that will be an enriching testament to Chicago’s forward-thinking wine community, Wagner will tailor an obsessively curated portfolio, which will feature a large selection of estate-grown wines from these vignerons who are intensively involved from bud-break to bottling.

Just moved to the West Loop neighborhood and my husband and I go out every weekend to check out different spots. This is the best one we've tried by far. The place is cool, really cool, but unpretentious. The wine, beer and champagne list is outstanding (first place I've seen with 4 choices of rose champagne by the glass). The food and service were very good. Food came out pretty fast. Salads were amazing. So was the cheese platter and flatbreads. Waitress was attentive but not overwhelming. I'm definitely going back. Great place to go with friends and share some bottles while you show them this neighborhood gem....

We had a great experience the last time we were here, but I think the service staff has changed since then. When we arrived for our reservation, we were told we would have to wait, which was fine and we made our way over to the bar. However, we had to inquire about our reservation 2 more times to get seated over the next hour. After being seated, we did not have a server come over for another 30 minutes. Another 20 minutes passed when she said "the computer restarted and lost the order stub so she had to resubmit it." ...we had ordered one bottle of champagne for the table based on her recommendations earlier and she never gave us the name. She then walked away and someone else came by and admitted that she had forgotten our order.

From the entry down the cobblestone alley to the cozy and inviting dining area, this is a perfect place for brunch. The staff was warm and friendly without being overbearing and the food was outstanding. We had the Hangar Steak & Eggs and the Lobster Tartine. Both were outstanding. Do not miss the Breakfast potatoes...crispy and delicious. Finish brunch with one of their pastries. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought a Chocolate parfait.... completely decadent...the perfect ending. We will definitely be back.

I would definitely love to come back. They agreed on our request to put balloons on the outer seating area, also they were very courteous the whole time, plus the food and wine was great. So I went for happy hour with a girlfriend of mine to catch up over a bottle of wine.. and RM's prices are just ridiculous. I mean.. come on. I get it- you're a cute place, with great selections, and super trendy right now but really... come on.. Be a little friendlier to the wallet. We did enjoy the $1 oysters (they have every Tuesday!) those were great! And the ambiance inside is outstanding- so cute and cozy with the fire and couches and color pallet. The waitstaff was a bit all over the place and hovering longer than we would like.. I MIGHT go back for the oysters and to try more of the food options.. but the drink menu needs to slow it's roll. Cute place though!

This is a lovely place for a drink--great atmosphere, location, setting (perfect light, lots of candles, gorgeous decor). Our experience was a bit disappointing in part bc the champagne we ordered wasn't actually in available (and suggested replacement wasn't very tasty). It is also odd that the champagne was kept on ice over at the server station, rather than at our table (we were 1 of 4 tables, so it isn't a matter of space, just their procedure, perhaps). The food was so-so. We ordered a number of appetizers and the cheese platter, as well as the Croque Madame . Most of the cheese was rind and lacked flavor (though the latter could be due to our selections). I would go back for a drink, but I wouldn't bother with much else, sad to say.

RM Champagne Salon is simply lovely. The ambiance, the food, and the service were impeccable. My first visit was on a Friday night after a long stressful work week. Our server Fallyn was great. I left there feeling refreshed and relaxed. Later I went back for Sunday brunch with friends to celebrate a birthday. Once again we were not disappointed. Our server Lauren was also great. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

This place is great for just about anything - romantic date, drinks with friends after work, appetizers and a drink before heading out on the town. Their outdoor seating is amazing but their indoor seating holds it's own, too. Candles everywhere, beautiful decor - it's hard not to just want to kick back and enjoy yourself while there. Get the lobster deviled eggs - so good!

We were a party of 2 with a reservation. When we were seated, it was as if we were not assigned a server. We waited a long time and then the Manager came and took our drink order. Waited another lengthy period before the same manager came back to take our food order. In between, the Manager and Hostess were just standing at the host counter chatting. I don't understand this as this was out third or fourth time here and we never experienced this drop in service before. It was a very strange and disappointing experience...

We dined on the street level of the patio. It was very pretty, but too windy despite being tucked between buildings. It took our server about 10minutes to greet us. She seems snotty, but softened after we chatted with her. The line for the bar was irritatingly close to our table i.e. People's butts were on the back of my chair. Cheese plate was excellent. Steamed mussels were excellent. Petite Seafood Platter was good. Some deserts were great, some were just ok. Went with a moderately priced Champagne ($100/bottle), it was good, not great. The God Save the Queen cocktail was very good.

The location is an interior courtyard; feels like London; no traffic noise to speak of. Sitting outside was very pleasant; the interior looks to be inviting on a chillier day. Staff who understood how to present and pour wines were a pleasure. $1 oysters on Tuesday! We had 24 without trying! The several steak frites that were ordered came done precisely as ordered and mine - very rare - was exactly that, with the meat, searing, and sauce each adding flavor. Delicious. The chicken dish was excellent; moist and flavorful. The tiny bites of dessert (two forkfuls of key lime pie, for example) are just right. Menu is short, thus "focused" in the title, but interesting and well executed. Great cheese selection. We'll certainly be back.

The atmosphere, food, and drinks (we had cocktails) were all great at RM Champagne Salon. The outdoor seating was great on a late summer night. I like that they have a private area away from the street. There's nice lighting and decor, and overall it was very romantic. However, the service was very poor. It took over 30 minutes for anyone to take our drink order, and it wasn't even our waitress (who had been serving other tables all around us the whole time). Our waitress came minutes later to take our food order and did not seem very apologetic about the delay. Once we got our orders, everything was fine. They did comp our two drinks due to the poor service, so that was a saving grace. I'll go back, but I'm not in a rush to do so.

I was a little disappointed in the service at RM. I was very much looking forward to going for the great wine list. It was a prime time on a Friday night, so the waitress was definitely busy, but I had some questions about the wine list and menu and she did not seem able or willing to answer them. I might try again at a less busy time......

Terrific outdoor spot. Quiet, relaxed, and not on a noisy street - a rarity in Chicago! Food was light and delicious. Wine list focused on depth vs breadth - some good quality gems on offer by the glass here. Service was the highlight though. Lauren was passionate, professional and knowledgeable without any fussiness or pretension. We learned a lot about what we were enjoying without feeling rushed or pressured. Pure enjoyment. Not inexpensive, but the experience was worth every penny. Looking forward to a repeat visit soon.

I went here for my birthday and was very excited for champagne and amazing food. The first thing I wanted to order they were out of stock, then I was going to get the burger, they were out of that as well. So I got the macaroni and cheese which was very bland and disappointing. The notable items: lobster deviled eggs, oysters, salmon tartar, and the chicken dinner were out of this world. The champagne however was delicious and the dessert plate was very crafty. She even threw in some extra pieces for us. Service and atmosphere were phenomenal.

We had a great night outside. And we felt that the prices for down town Chicago were good. We had Duck Rillette with toast pts for app. with rhubarb compote to put on top very good. Oysters in half shell very fresh. I did have to ask for horseradish. The Trout that I had was great. My husband had wine. With a shared salad and these great grilled green beans, Wine and desert. Our whole bill just came to 149.00 Not bad right.
