A word from RL Restaurant
A warm, rich interior featuring Mahogany paneling & Persian rugs, RL Restaurant houses an art collection that reflects & represents a lifestyle vision of quality, integrity & timelessness - the design & cultural aesthetic of Polo Ralph Lauren. The menu is written daily with core items, some prepared tableside, which reflect the Ralph Lauren "aspirational lifestyle." The food is not based on how exotic the chef can appear with his creativity, but on how finely tuned & balanced are his compositions -- renditions of ideas that have a history on the American Table. ****Please note that reservations are for dining room only. Bar and Patio are first come first serve.******Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Seating too close together. Difficult to maintain conversation if loud diners nearby. If coming after shopping there is no room to put bags"

  • "Our favorite place to dine in Chicago. Always impeccable service and food never disappoints. On this trip enjoyed two fo our old favorites, steak tartar appetizer and lobster the old way entree. I also had the salmon entree for the first time and it was outstanding; it was topped with nice arugula sauce. Can be a bit noisy mid-evening, so we try to get there around 9."

  • "Being in the hospitality business I know how hard it can be to manage a million moving parts. RL makes it effortless in all areas .. the food and the service is always top notch. I always am made to feel welcome even when they are at full capacity. Bravo RL! You set the standard in Chicago."

  • "We love this restaurant, but truthfully both my husband and I were disappointed with our fish. He had soggy salmon and I had fishy Dover sole, which is usually very good. It was an unusual off night."

  • "Pork Tenderlion and Scallops with Shimp/Lobster are amazing."

  • "Always vibrant, full of people having a fine time while enjoying food packed with seasonal flavors as well as beloved, classic standards standards. One of the best restaurants in the city."

  • "When I visit Chicago, RL is my 'go to' place for lunch before hitting the stores. The service is outstanding. On my last visit I spent 2 days at lunch there."

  • "We were put at a 2 person table which is on top of the tables next to you. Every time a waiter walked by they bumped my chair. I asked to move. We were placed in the bar at a very small table next to the coat room. Even this was immensely better than being bumped every few seconds. Then there service was great. The food was all very good. It just doesn't work for me when your packed into a beautiful room which is very loud where I can't be comfortable."

  • "This is our third time dining at this beautiful restaurant! From the moment you walk in you feel like you've entered the home of a very gracious friend with fabulous taste! The service is beyond reproach here from the entire staff. We had the lobster club, steak sandwich and lobster bisque. The steak was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. the lobster club was generously filled with large chunks of lobster! So delicious! Don't miss out on this wonderful restaurant!"

  • "Wonderful staff with great attention to the details. The food was superb. The setting is intimate which seemed to keep the noise level to a minimum. Once again, this restuarant soars!"

  • "Went for brunch but saw the entire menu and bunch plus lunch everything looks great. Based on looking at the menu online I had my heart (with some hoped for help from lipitor) set on corned beef hash with poached eggs. It turns out that was the only item listed online that was not on the written brunch menu handed to us in the restaurant. Given that it should be possible to keep an electronic version posted online more up to date than a printed menu I have to wonder why they bother posting a menu online if is does not reflect reality. The room is amazing I guess due to RL's touch and even if the food and service was lacking I would go just for the ambience. However, the server and food was just as amazing as the room. Don't miss this!"

  • "Fantastic as usual, the service is better than my private club. Looking forward to my next visit sooner rather than later."

  • "As always, the RL Restaurant is fabulous - the food, service and ambience are consistently great. Every time we visit Chicago, the RL Restaurant is a must for lunch. Our trip would not be complete without the creamy lobster bisque with a Cobb Hollywood salad and a bourbon creme brûlée topped with fruit....the best!"

  • "Outstanding experience. Outstanding food. Outstanding service. Outstanding atmosphere. Great place to eat for breakfast/brunch/lunch and dinner. We love it!"

  • "Make a reservation & just go! The tight spaces and the high energy in the dining area are all a part of the wonderful experience here. I wouldn't dare spoil this treat by suggesting what to eat, however, I do recommend that everyone in your party should choose something different and share (if you can). My group of girlfriends are still talking about the wonderful lunch at RL. It's worth every penny!"

  • "We've been to RL multiple times in the past year. We love the service and the atmosphere. It is A quiet and relaxed place. The food is very good."

  • "Food served cold, steak not done to order, waitress did not return to make sure all was well so did not finish meal, just not the quality we expected. Skipped additional drinks and dessert. Would not return."

  • "This place is an automatic booking when visiting Chicago. Food is always perfect, service is simply the beys it can be! Tried the Crab cake for the 1st time & it did not disappoint. 90 % crab! Burger was amazing as well as the lobster bisque! We all had an amazing lunch!:) I did find It a bit odd that while we were celebrating 2 Birthdays W/Champagne, & a $200 tab (for 3)that they charged us for cookies w/ a candle (that we did not order). Oh well."

  • "What is it when the waiter comments on your choice of entree? Did I ask for his approval? The food is very good in this clubby atmosphere, yet there is something pretentious at the same time which is off-putting, as though if one is not a regular diner, one might not quite cut it. A lot of air kissing and fancy shopping bags at lunch. Helps to be blonde."

  • "Don't get sucked in by the Ralph Lauren brand. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was excited to dine at RL and experience the 'country club chic' but was bitterly disappointed. The decor was suitable but there were far too many people in the space to allow the atmosphere to be authentic. So many people squeezed into the space was not conducive to a lovely lunch. The staff were borderline rude and clearly wanted my table cleared quickly. I hadn't finished my burger and they cleared the table. Mind you, the burger was below average so I didn't mind not finishing it. They whisked my coffee away and gave me the check literally after the last mouthful."

  • "Thee are not enough words to describe just how wonderful RL, its staff and food is to our city. Its iconic Chicago and should not be missed. make it a point to go, whether you're and out of towner or live in here."

  • "great food and atmosphere, but servers need to settle down with pressuring you to order more drinks and higher priced food items"

  • "I love this restaurant and have eaten here several times for both lunch & dinner. The food & service are consistently excellent. The ambiance is like dining in someone's beautiful library. The woodwork is awesome. A great choice after a hard day's shopping on the Magnificent Mile!"

  • "Terrible dining experience. The last two times I have dined here have had pitiful service. If you have all the time in the world and don't mind your food being cold then this is the place for you. If you expect more out of a place that charges what they charge then I recommend trying your luck somewhere else."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "This is a great place for lunch. A vibrant , but very traditional ambiance. Service was excellent, but food was just average."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "I t was really good. Still noisy, but everything about it was good otherwise. Our waitress, the bus boy, the manager, all of them, really attentive without being all over you."

  • "RL, is one of the superb jewels in our neighborhood and city for fine dining. Lunch, brunch or dinner you will enjoy a great meal and excellent service in selecting this restaurant for any occasion."

  • "Not recommended at all!!! Food is just so so. Service is poor!!!"
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "This restaurant has been around for ages, but I think its proximity to Michigan Ave is the only reason it's still in business. Ambiance is ok, but all of the food left much to be desired. We ordered a bottle of wine and the server/manager brought us the wrong bottle – a white instead of a red – and clearly knew nothing about wine. I had thought she might be a sommelier but that was clearly not the case. We stuck to several of the old-school classics and none were very good. The arugula salad was very sparse on pine nuts and the parmesan did not have much flavor. The crab cake was mostly filler (Sophie's at Saks has a much better one!) and the steak Diane was not a good piece of meat – chewy and tough – although the sauce was nice."

  • "Went here for early lunch with friends visiting from Ireland. This was my 2nd visit and I wasn't disappointed! Friendly staff, great food and a buzzy atmosphere - even at 12 noon."

  • "I took my girlfriend there for her birthday. First off, holy cow what an extremely attentive staff. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly. They have an expansive cocktail and wine list. They even make a killer mojito. For dinner my girlfriend had the scallops which she loved and I had the filet which was pretty good but not great. For dessert they brought a chocolate cream pie which was amazing with a candle and my girlfriend s name on the plate drizzled in syrup! Great experience, I will go back for sure!"

  • "The Polo Loungue is our favorite lunch spot in Chicago ! After vigorous shopping with the girls the restaurant provides a respite from the hussle and bussle of Michigan Ave. An extensive menu provides choices for a variety of palates - from the health conscious to those looking for a hearty burger. The staff is attentive and courteous but not overbearing. Prices are reasonable for the locale and the wine and spirits list is exemplary. Don't miss this cozy gem - it is a must do each time we frequent Chicago!"

  • "Try the Sole, it's to die for. Everything we ordered was exceptional."

  • "Overall the experience was fine. Our table wasn't in a very good spot though. Being seated next to the station where the wait staff inputs orders and such wasn't too pleasant but the food was great."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "I travel and entertain a lot, and I was underwhelmed with the food. The chicken was very bland, the mashed potatoes were mushy and bland, and the bananas foster was overcooked (though it was fun to watch the waiter prepare it) and it needed more cinnamon. No comparison with a New Orleans bananas foster. The interior was decidedly RL. Very understated and sophisticated. It is a noisy place, so be prepared that you won't be able to hear each other very well."

  • "Had lunch with a girlfriend here and it was a great scene. The wait staff were excellent. Food was good, ambience was good, and I will return."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "The food there is very expensive. However, it is served in small portions. Or it may be that all of the other restaurants serve portion sizes that are abnormal. But I must say, that if you want to impress someone this is where you can do it with no problem. The service is Spectacular And the scenery is beautiful."

  • "Great place to have a conversation. Help very attentive. Would definitely return and recommend"

  • "As I said, I love RL. If you're a couple, reserve ahead of time and sit in the corners. You'll see the whole restaurant. It's clubby and fabulous."
