Diner Reviews
  • "Last minute reservation turned out well for this downtown gem!"

  • "Took a business colleague out when he was in town and staying downtown Dallas. This is in the Historic West End of Dallas, what used to be a vibrant happening place. This was a Saturday night and the town was dead and the food at RJ's was not exceptional. One order was Steak and Lobster, I asked for the steak to be cooked Medium, I got two hockey pucks instead. I also ordered a taco and I could have gotten something similar at Taco Bell. The Margarita's were wonderful however and highly recommend them."

  • "Food was great but the best was the steak and lobster, that sauce that was on it was heavenly and the meat was SOOOOO Tender. The service was great from the front door the when we walked out. The wait staff was very attentive> I will eat hear again."

  • "The food and service were excellent. Plenty of opportunity add real Mexican heat to any entree to the level one desires with the choices of sauces. Prices are reasonable for the quality and setting. "

  • "We had previously dined at R. J. Mexican years ago and had enjoyed our meal. So we decided to go there with family. We were very disappointed in this dining experience. It was not busy at all but the service was terrible. We had servers, managers walking by our table but no one refilling tea or chips. We finally asked for a pitcher of tea so we could refill our own drinks. The food did not come out for a very long time. And when it did come out it did not come out all at the same time. The food had good flavor but rice was cold. Will not go back again. Workers did not seem to want to take care if customers. "

  • "Enjoyed an authentic Tex-Mex meal. Food was delicious!"

  • "There was a real problem with nants. Two nants fell into my drink. The problem was brought to the servers attention as well, but he charged full price for my drink. The server offerred shots on the house to celebrate the bride to be that i was dining with, but we never got those shots. The food was very good and the atmosphere was nice . I just recommend that servers get a little more training. "

  • "I was meeting an out of town friend at the Hyatt Regency on Reunion Blvd., and we took the DART rail over to the West End to eat from Union Station. The RJ Mexican Cuisine menu looked great, and we agreed to give it a try. It was really quiet when we arrived but was almost filled by the time we finished at 9 p.m. There were so many patrons for a Tuesday night. It made me excited the the West End really was a happening place in Dallas. The food was delicious, very nicely presented, and the waiter did a great job checking up on us. I hope to be back before too long."

  • "This was our second time to eat at RJ's and again, same ok food but service is lacking. Had to ask for dinner plates, utensils and constantly ask another waiter for help with needs. Food and atmosphere was not enough to offset poor service. Will choose another place next time."

  • "The service was slow. Ordered a pitcher of margarita's. Cheap booze and to much mixer. My dinner was so spicy with so much chili powder I couldn't even taste the food. Was with a group and none of them liked their dinner either."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "Very noisy. Like couldn't think level of noise. Everything is spicy! It seems like they use spice to cover up mediocre flavor. Maitre d seemed like i was inconveniencing him when i corrected amounts on the bill. Overall might go again."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "The service was horrible, we had stale chips on our table, the waiter ignored us most of the time even though there was only 8 or 9 other people there. The food was not good."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "They had us in a side room with other people for Valentine's. So it was over packed, service was slow. Now the food was not tasteful at all! For this place to be a real Mexican food spot was a joke."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I ordered their "Perfect Margarita" which is their most expensive top shelf poor and could hardly taste the alcohol. I then decided to try their house margarita which gave me heartburn for the rest of the night, probably due to too much triple sec. Neat tourist location and the food was decent but need to hire experienced bar tenders or re-vamp their drink menu."

  • "Soggy and "fishy" fish tacos. EXcellent squash blossom soup. Good salsa. Who charges $12 for a margarita that wasn't even very large? I expected better from the glowing report of the hotel concierge."

  • "Plain and simple, Food was great. Chips were ok and drinks were good. The overall dinning experience was good. Will be going back"

  • "I know Texas prides its self on Tex Mex..... However this is not what they serve, thank goodness..... This is true to life authentic Mexican cuisine...... Best I have had since living in Texas...... Need in of these Resturants in Nacogdoches!!!!!"

  • "Food was ok. Nothing special. Server appeared to be on their first day or so of the job. Decent place but I wouldn't go back."

  • "I have been going to RJ for years, for special events or when I have people in town and want to show them something fun and special in Dallas. The presentation of the food is awesome, and the setting is so nice & romantic. I often have the same servers when I go, and they're all very friendly and helpful! I highly recommend RJ!"

  • "Food was well prepared and delicious. The service was casual and effective. RJ was a great place for a meal with old friends"

  • "Near Dealey Plaza in Dallas is RJ Mexican Cuisine. RJ is an Open Table restaurant and walking distance of hotels in downtown Dallas. The interior is well done and gives the first impression of an upscale restaurant. When in Dallas, Tex Mex is a must, and this is a grand place to experiment with Texas food. We started lunch with Gazpacho, along with the red snapper and shrimp ceviche. Both were fresh, flavorful and tasty. Our entree's were also very good. My wife ordered the "RJ Fiesta Grande" which consisted of Fajita steak taco, roasted chicken enchilada, spinach and cheese relleno, and a pork tamale. I ordered the special red snapper in spicy sauce. ALL were very tasty. The service was excellent. The cost of the food was very reasonable"

  • "When we arrived, a host spoke to the two groups in front of us then disappeared. We waited another 5-10 minutes for someone else to arrive at the host stand. This guy didn't even acknowledge us at first, and I had to say "Sir" four times to get his attention. I told him we had a reservation, and he disappeared for another five minutes before coming back to seat us. No explanation, just gone. The server was obviously new, but he was also just slow. Refills were slow to come. Queso was slow to arrive. When we asked for dessert menus, he took forever to produce the menus and WAY too long to explain. He kept forgetting what each had. Half our party didn't' trust him to remember their allergies and altered their dessert order."

  • "Upon arrival RJ Mexican Cusine was extremely crowded but it was a good thing that I had made reservations through Open Table. People we spoke with had been two nights previous without a reservation and the wait was over two hours so they rearranged their plans to come back. The food and service were excellent and by the time we left we were stuffed! Hilario Casas went out of his way to be accommodating and even though there was a large party booked in the dining room, several tables had been saved for smaller parties such as ours of 2. If I ever have the opportunity to return to Dallas, I will definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "Portobello mushroom fajitas were a great twist on the veggie fajita, and were well executed. Although service was acceptable, bigger tables fared better from service perspective overall."
    Dined on 3/15/2013
  • "Disappointed that our appetizer -chili con queso was cold. Had to send back to re warm. Dinner arrived luke warm. Not sure why our food was not hot the entire evening. Im confident it would be really good if it was hot. Service attendant was slow."

  • "My husband claims he ate the best ever Chille Relleno at RJ's. That is saying alot as he eats this dish in many, many Mexican restaurants My chimicanga was average. It was a busy mid-week night and the restaurant seemed understaffed. We had chips and water for nearly 30 minutes before an order was taken. This is not the place for a quiet evening, but I would try it again"
    Dined on 3/13/2013
  • "Please don't go here!!! I saw the reviews and decided to roll the dice and now I regret not listening to the others!!! The chips were definitely stale (and based on the reviews from others this wasn't a fluke). The dishes were expensive and tasted like everything had been frozen at some point. Veggie fajitas didn't even come with a side of sour cream, pico, etc (like regular fajitas)."
    Dined on 3/8/2013
  • "All the food was uncomfortably spicy. Everything was just "good" otherwise. I wouldn't go back."

  • "it was our first Valentines Dinner and husband and wife and we both really enjoyed our first experience there. we will be returning. Maybe even become regulars."

  • "Love love love this place! The food is amazing, the service is incredible, and the atmosphere can't be beat, II will definitely go there again."

  • "Yum! Well-prepared Mexican (not Tex-Mex) food. Huge servings, enough to share."

  • "Good food, reasonable and great service. You won't go wrong!"

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and they made it special. They brought out a really nice dessert for him at the end of our meal and he was very surprised. I didn't think the food was over the top wonderful but it was good (kind of over priced for the quality of the food), however my boyfriend loved the food. The margaritas we got were phenomenal! They were really strong so 2 a piece were perfect! Service was pretty good and I enjoyed the atmosphere. This will only be a once in a while/special occasion restaurant if we do decide to go back."
    Dined on 10/20/2012
  • "Had a pleasant dinner. Staff seemed a little distracted but ok. Food was good at dinner and again for lunch the next day - big portions! The sangria and the sangria swirl margarita were great. The "scenic Dallas skyline view" was a bit exaggerated as we were on the sidewalk and could only see the buildings directly above us and most of the tables are too small for more than 2 people but the evening was still nice."
    Dined on 9/21/2012
  • "The seasoning on the chicken tacos was good, but they seemed to lack other ingredients associated with tacos such as cheese, lettuce, salsa, sour cream and etc... The guacamole was watery and featured onions instead of avocados and Pico as it is usually made. We ate very little of it because we have had better."
    Dined on 8/22/2012
  • "Pleasant evening. Food was varied - half loved their choices, half were just so-so but I think it was a matter of preference and not that the food wasn't prepared well. Waitstaff was slow in the beginning but apparently got it together and were attentive after the initial delay. We had a good time...which is what matters at checkout."
    Dined on 8/11/2012
  • "Great find. Service was wonderful. Food a bit upscale compared to most Mexican restaurats - a welcome surprise."

  • "RJ Mexican Cuisine never disappoints. As busy as it was, we received the best service as if we were the only ones there. Also, the food is AMAZING. I have never had a bad meal from RJ and will always return whenever I'm in Dallas."
