A word from Rivoli Restaurant
Rivoli strives to be a hands on, moderately priced restaurant with simple and creative food, carefully selected wines and comfortable service in a warm and lively atmosphere. Rivoli’s distinction comes from the heart and soul of its owners and staff. The menu relies on what is seasonal, local and fresh, using mostly organic produce, sustainably caught fish and naturally raised meats and poultry. The wines are selected for their affinity with the food, and offer the best values from the cooler regions of California and the Old World. The dining room staff provides friendly and attentive service and the chefs and cooks are skilled artisans of their craft.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We picked this I spot primarily due to its proximity to an event we were attending, but now plan to add it to our list of "go-to" spots when we are visiting. The potato leak soup and bib lettuce salad were both very good. The guys had some sort of pot roast - let's just say their plates were cleaned. I had swordfish which was good, but perhaps not outstanding. The wine list had a nice variety, both by bottle and glass."

  • "We enjoyed everything about our evening---from the greeting to the delicious Budin dessert!"

  • "Every three weeks Rivoli changes the menu. It is never a disappointment, although favorites do go away. We landed there on the first night of a great new menu and ordered the Moroccan Mezze. It arrived with 3 lovely lamb chops among the generous platter of Moroccan sides (pastille was brilliant), but the lamb chops were served medium well-not a hint of pink. Everything at our table was excellent except for this."

  • "A wonderful dining experience. Great birthday dinner for my husband and for me the vegan dish was delicious. Our server was 1st class."

  • "Excellent food, and attentive service. There's a view of a small garden. The seating for 6 was a bit cramped, but otherwise no complaints."

  • "Have been coming here for the past six years or so to celebrate special occasions. The food is always wonderful. Seasonal, fresh and local whenever possible. Very creative and tasty dishes, but not over the top. Just excellent, solid food. The service is outstanding. Good energy, knowledgable. It's no surprise this place is so popular. Book well in advance!"

  • "Disappointing food. We dined there years ago and food was excellent. Then it became difficult to get reservation other than 5:30 or 9:30 so we dropped it off our list for several years. We won't be going back soon. Entree selection did not appeal to me which in all fairness is subjective. Scallops entree was smothered in overwhelming tomato and beans concoction. I did not like texture of beans - again subjective. Nothing was bad - just okay. Floor-to-ceiling windows look-out to lovely garden."

  • "Rivoli after more than 15 years continues to be the standard my wife and I use to evaluate restaurants—is it as good as Rivoli? Some places have a classier interior or more active bar scene but food-wise, Rivoli fits our tastes and is consistently of the highest quality in putting together foods and flavors. Highly recommended for those who want very good food at reasonable (though not cheap) prices."

  • "I was a little skeptical about going to Rivoli because of just me being skeptical. The staff was AMAZING and my interaction with them made me feel as if I've known them forever. The next day after dinner, I went to the website again to take a look at the garden outside because it left such an amazing image in my mind. What a great place to be in your thoughts with the person you are with great energy throughout!"

  • "The food was good but with so few options on the menu it would have been nice to have a few daily specials to choose from."

  • "We enjoyed out dinner at Rivoli Saturday night. It's a very popular restaurant, judging from it being nearly full when we arrived at 5PM. Service was perfect, and our food was excellently prepared. Our appetizers (little gem salad, portobello fritters, and gnocchi) were very good. My lamb fell off the bone and was very tasty. Only negative was that the accompanying spinach was a bit over-salted. My husband's pork was excellent, and our nephew enjoyed his shrimp dish. Our desserts (warm brownie and crepe) were excellent too. My husband had a glass of wine which went well with the pork. We would definitely return."

  • "We really enjoyed Rivoli! The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the great drinks at the bar were all wonderful and at a fair price. We will be going back to Rivoli!"

  • "My husband and I don't go out to eat much. So when we do, we make it count. He checks the recommendations so most of what we eat are pretty good. Some good but not memorable and the food turns out to be our usual fine dining stuff. But this place just started on the right foot right from the get go. It was the first time a place split our soup and salad and we each got our own bowls, which was just so thoughtful! I asked the waiter to pair our Moroccan Chicken with a white and the Pork Brochette wrapped in Prosciutto with a red and both were great wines. Food was FaBuLOUs!!!! The desserts were mostly of ice cream/gelato and such, and we wanted something warmer. But next time, we most def be back, we'll save room for dessert."

  • "Enjoyed a lovely meal on Saturday night for my cousin's birthday. The server James was delightful and friendly and the food hit the spot. The birthday girl had a great view of the garden and all 5 of us enjoyed a lovely night out."

  • "We went there for our 41st anniversary and had a great meal. The waitress was helpful in telling me about the trout fish which I had and was great. This is my wife's favorite place for a nice dinner."

  • "We made last minute reservations to celebrate a special occasion and had an absolutely delicious dinner. From our cocktails, to the appetizers to the main courses to our desserts - everything was amazing. Our server was extremely pleasant and helpful and there was nothing we would have changed. Dining at Rivoli made us miss living on the "other side of the tunnel" and remember the drive isn't that far. We will be back!"

  • "This is always my go-to when I want to impress somebody. Rivoli is quaint with a cute garden in the back, has a great wine selection, is perfect for anything (dates, family, whatever), and it also has some of the best food I've ever tasted."

  • "We ate dinner with long time friends who are definitely "foodies". The four of us enjoyed amazingly tasty appetizers. Then, we each ordered our entrees to find that each and every bite was divine and amazing. The flavors of all the food was so well thought out and the presentation was beautiful. We each enjoyed dessert to finish our meal. It was a wonderful evening of the most delicious foods!"

  • "Can't think of a better place for a romantic evening on a rainy night than a table by the back window at Rivoli, watching raindrops caress the camelias and tuliip trees in the always lovely garden while being served by a gracious and discreet team which anticipates our every wish. Food was excellent and beautifully presented, as always."

  • "Nestled in a tiny space with an unassuming entrance, the restaurant opens into a quiet haven separated from a lovely garden by glass wall. The food is served with style and attention to detail and. MOST important - each item has unique flavors, clearly evident from one another. Service is impeccable and though small inside, still each table seems to be intimate and private."

  • "Came here because of KQED's show Check Please Bay Area. We were a little disappointed at the food. It was good, but not great, and definitely not worth the prices you pay for. There are other recommendations on the show that would've been better for us to go to for our anniversary celebration."

  • "I recommend Rivoli's to anyone who would like to have a great dining experience for a special occasion! The wait staff is highly attentive and able to provide you with information and recommendations regarding the menu (which changes every 3 weeks). Our meal begin with two orders of the mushroom fritters, sparkling water, two glasses of the Moscato D'Asti and a glass of Merlot. Entrees for a party of four, three ordered pan fried chicken breast with smothered leg accompanied by shredded brussel sprouts with carrots and mushrooms in a reduction sauce. The other party order sauteed gulf shrimp (huge) with cabbage and prosciutto. We all had warm chocolate bread pudding with whipped cream and caramel sauce..."Heaven On Earth""

  • "This is the restaurant that we ALWAYS choose for a special birthday or anniversary dinner! We ALWAYS begin with the fabulous Portabella Mushroom Fritters! We ALWAYS end our dinner with the chocolate sundae. This time my husband ordered the ravioli with the lamb/tomato sauce. He told me it was delicious. I ordered the gnocchi appetizer for my main dish and I loved the combination of the various flavors and textures. The service is always professional and friendly; the setting is cozy and comfortable. I highly recommend Rivoli's!!!"

  • "We enjoyed the food, the service was really wonderful - and fast. We were welcomed from the minute we walked in, and cared for all the way through the meal. My ravioli dish with lamb was a little cool, even though I was warned that the plate was hot, but it was delicious anyway. The hallway entrance to the dining area is filled with wait staff trying to get back and forth from the kitchen to the equipment on the wall, and into the dining room. When a customer/guest walks through, there is someone who says "Guest in the hall", and everyone avoids running into you - which seemed a little chaotic to me. I will go again, and think I'll try lunch time. The dining room is very beautiful, looking out on a garden with a blooming magnolia."

  • "Rivoli's is our favorite place in town. One of our regular spots to go to; love dropping in at the bar for an early cozy dinner with my husband to do our weekly catch-ups. Out-of-town guests are always struck by Rivoli's unique and wonderful menu, impeccable service. The dining room feels like one is living lavishly and being served in one's own private dining room, shared with a few select others."

  • "In Berkeley from Wash DC for business and found this gem on line. Went with seasoned small group of colleagues and had a fantastic meal. Service was great, ambience was good - families, couples and friends - and food was excellent. Would definitely go back. It is unpretentious but sophisticated at the same time."

  • "we have eaten many times at Rivoli and it is always excellent. It is our special occasion restaurant and bring many of our friends to dine with us. Thank you for all your attention and care to your cuisine."

  • "This is our second time and both visits were similar. Service was excellent, food was good but nothing really stood out. If you are in Berkeley and want a nice meal, Rivoli fits the bill. If you are looking for a destination restaurant, you may want to look elsewhere."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Every visit to this Berkeley restaurant is like "coming home" to a wonderful meal with an updated menu and wonderful friendly and warm service. As a resident of San Francisco, my only regret is the trip across the Bay Bridge during the evening commute for such outstanding cuisine. I only wish San Francisco could offer this type of charm and cuisine. The staff is non assuming, friendly, and most helpful."

  • "Rivoli is a spot for folks who appreciate a fine gourmet meal served in lovely surroundings. The quality of both the ingredients and preparation is quite high. The toasted pine nut gnocchi with roast pear, fig marmalata and brown butter was an amazing appetizer. The cheese plate with cranberry bread and a cow, goat and sheep cheese was a wonderful ending to a great meal. Both the pork chop and gulf shrimp entrees were tasty, but not particularly creative presentations. Rivoli is indeed a place for foodies to celebrate a special night out."
