Riverwalk RestaurantDate NightMy wife and I hosted a luncheon several weeks ago for two good friends and when we contemplated where to go on a "date night" recently, our memories of that luncheon stirred us to make another reservation and we were delighted with the results. We were all dressed up after attending an afternoon wedding and wanted to go out for a romantic dinner date. Not being from the area we searched Opentable and found this gem. We were seated quickly and the view was beautiful. Server was friendly and helpful in choosing our entrees. Our meals did take longer than normal (not sure why) but our server kept us informed and when it arrived it was delicious. We had read previous reviews concerning service, food, etc., and can only conclude that poor reviews must have been during busy weekends. The wait staff was extremely helpful and the food was as good as we used to get at Nick's years ago. We ordered the cobbler when we ordered the main course as was suggested by other reviews and by the server. It is was great and more than enough to share. The four of us were the last ones out at 10:00 - an hour after closing only because we were have such a great time enjoying the food and outdoors. It was a perfect evening. On the way home we deteremined that we has just enjoyed one of the most delightful dining experiences of our married lives. We celebrated our 33rd anniversary at Riverwalk and we were treated to lovely views of the George Washington Memorial bridge over the York River through a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, a tastefully decorated dining room allowing ample space between tables, an experienced and friendly waitstaff, and, most valuably, perfectly prepared and presented seafood offerings. This restaurant is now our favorite for special occsions, such as our 33 1/3 anniversary coming up soon.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice spot in YorktownWe were visiting so we've only been here once. The food was very good and the setting quite nice. Since it was late May, it was a warm enough to eat on their patio area opverlooking the river. Lovely except that the local bridge is quite close so traffic noise detracts from what is otherwise a perfect setting.
The service was outstanding and the food was very good. I always forget you cannot reserve the patio on open table be they still seated us there and we not only had a teriffic meal, we sat on the banks of the York at night in the cooling breeze. The walk along the waterfront before dinner was nice. The staff - hostess and server (Courtney) - were cordial and competent; staff was tolerant of late arrival of our dinner partners, arrival later of their son, and of his staying for dinner at our table for four. Then we stayed until we were almost last to leave. Throughout we were made to feel they were glad we were there and happy to accommodate us in whatever was our pleasure. I think we were congenial customers, but we did place demands on the service that went above the usual. A foodie likely would not have raved about the food, but we certainly enjoyed it. We discovered the restaurant six years ago when our daughter decided to attend the College of William and Mary. The portions were small, but the dishes were filling. The server was really nice, and made sure we were taken care of. I am not fond of waiting staff that are constantly asking questions. Ours left us alone to enjoy our meal, but made sure the drinks were refilled and nothing was needed. The menu is very original and not too overwhelming. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary without a hitch. I went online to check out the menu, so I did not have any surprises. It is a little pricey for casual dining, so we usually only go to Riverwalk for something special. It's got a great view of the river and the food was cooked to perfection. The Restaurant was a great mid-way spot for my daughter at ODU in Norfolk and we living in Richmond.The view was fabulous of the York River and the Rt 17 Bridge and the whole ambiance of the building and area. My daughter has a gluten intolerance and they were more that willing to find exactly the right meal for her. She had a modified Blue Plate and they fixed everything with no breading, fresh crab meat, shrimp cocktail and oysters on half shell. She was very happy. Not one person at our table had a single complaint about their food. We had grouper, fried shrimp, lobster ravioli,crab cakes, crab imperial, sauteed shrimp,and She Crab soup.
