Diner Reviews
  • "Down to earth menu but with special touches. Menu items are fresh and interesting. Staff friendly and kind. You can't beat the view of the York River, the mighty bridge and the boat traffic. We travel 75 miles for Sunday brunch and the complimentary little doughnuts."

  • "Perfect weather made for a perfect meal. We visited from Norfolk with a 45 minute trip to historic Yorktown. Friends had given us a recommendation for Riverwalk. We were able to get a table on the patio overlooking the York River at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The appetizers of oysters came from the same river. The service was impeccable. We had the seasonal catch of soft crabs. Salmon and pasta and the brunch crabcakes benedict rounded out the meals. The crab cake was the second best crabcake I've ever eaten. (99% crab) Dessert included the cobbler of the day, blueberry. Come for the view, save room for the dessert."

  • "we really enjoyed the setting (we ate outdoors) and the service was excellent the dishes we tried were wonderful (stuffed shrimp, tilapia, and sea bass tamale)"

  • "I would highly recommend the Riverwalk. The food was excellent and the wait staff was superb. The jumbo scallops were out of this world and my husband said the crab legs were divine. Dessert was also over the top."

  • "The Riverwalk Restaurant was recommended by a local resident. My wife and I came to the area from Greer, SC to celebrate our 53rd Anniversary, and were wanting to find a great restaurant to celebrate . The restaurant staff and waiters were great. Schuyler was our waiter and did an outstanding job. We would highly recommend this restaurant"

  • "The swordfish and shrimp were delicious! Our waiter was very cordial and attentive. The sunset photos I took from the pattio look like post cards!"

  • "While we still enjoyed our annual stop at Riverwalk, it wasn't as good as it's been in the past. Service was very slow- even to get our check. The menu changed and the kids chicken tenders are no longer the delicious beer battered- they were grocery-store frozen quality. Kids like fine-dining, too! I miss the old desert menu. We come for the view- next time we may decide to skip the food."

  • "Took my mom there with my family for lunch and we all had various fish entrees. Every one was great and the service was awesome! They have so much on the menu that we liked it was hard to decide. So we were sure to order a variety and share portions which were huge!"

  • "The service and drinks were great. The food was not. Had the crab cakes they were really spicy and the crab seemed like it was shredded very stringy."

  • "There were 7 ladies in our party and we were seated promptly and our table had a wonderful view of the River! Our waitress was friendly, helpful and responded promptly and with a smile to all requests. The food was excellent - all had "lunch" items and the presentation was very nice. The special was Soft Shell Crabs and that was prepared to perfection. All of us agreed we would return with our husbands for a nice dinner for 2 or even family gathering."

  • "Very nice restaurant with great view of the York River, very friendly and cheerful hostesses, outside dining with setting sun a preferred seating for a full view of the river and the Gloucester shoreline. Seating out front of the restaurant with the beautiful fountain makes it's location a pleasure and romantic especially after the sun has set and people stroll pass."

  • "Not many options in the area so we tried the Riverwalk. Service was good (attentive but not overbearing) and the menu was diverse enough. They triggered my pet peeve, however, with the stereotypical kid's menu (fried foods or a hot dog). Why is it so hard to get creative with the kid's menu? Other than that, we enjoyed it. But we'd probably expand our search next time. We were pressed for time and there weren't many options in the immediate waterfront area."

  • "We used the Open Table app and were able to reserve a table within one-half hour. I think we were given a table with a great view because we made reservations, so I highly recommend doing that. The food was very good and served promptly. Service was excellent. Very pleased with the ease of reservation and the dining experience."

  • "First our table overlooked the York River it was a beautiful view. Our Waiter was very knowledgeable and suggested a wonderful bottle of wine. The Paella was a dinner special and it was delicious. My Girlfriend has some dietary restrictions and the staff was very accommodating. This is definitely a special occasion place for us, due to the price. It was overall a great dining experience."

  • "Service was pretty good. starter Oysters were good, wine was good, salad I ordered was missing an ingredient which the waiter try to make up for by bringing me a minimal amount based on the rest of the salad portion. Overall I would go back again if I was in the area."

  • "We very much enjoyed our Brunch at Riverwalk on Sunday. The views can't be beat and the food was very good. One of the hostesses was not friendly at all, not even a smile or acknowledgement you are there. However, once you get passed her, the service was very good. Highly recommend this place for a nice outing on a beautiful day."

  • "What a great location! The view of the river and the bridge is spectacular, which makes up for the very strange menu. The portions are far too large with too many sauces added to everything. Fish and chips was fine, but the veal chop/ pasta was smothered with thick sauce and pasta (far too much), and the fish tacos were too spicy without warning. Our waiter was fantastic, and we brought our own wine, so that made up for it! I'd still go back just to sit outside and enjoy the waterside view."

  • "While the outdoor dining with a view of the river was quite pleasant, the service was slow and somewhat bumbling. Dinner items were substituted without our being asked and the after-dinner coffee was tepid when served. We we not asked if we wanted refills on drinks or water. If I'm going to spend a significant amount for dinner, I'll do so elsewhere next time. "

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful dinner on the outdoor patio. The waitress, Jennifer was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and specials. I had the Fish of the Day which consisted of Salmon, shrimp and lobster bites over baby potatoes and broccoli. The presentation of the food was beautiful. "

  • "We had an early dinner on the patio and it was really great. The oysters are some of the best. We would recommend this for anyone wanting to relax after a Yorktown tour. "

  • "The food and service have always been great for lunch and brunch. Our experience this time, however, was not as positive. I believe that they were a bit understaffed that evening, for it took a while to get served and to receive the food. The seafood sauces were a bit spicy, and the fish and oysters had a rather strong taste. I will return for lunch, for I am hoping that this was just an off night. I recommend that tablecloths be used, for fine food deserves to be served in a professional, yet relaxed, atmosphere. "

  • "We've been celebrating special occasions at the Riverwalk Restaurant for 8 or 9 years. In less than a year's time, it seems the menu variety is half what it used to be and the quality of the food has fallen very noticeably. Where did the Chicken Oscar and incredible hot turkey sandwich go? Filet mignon used to be an elegant presentation, topped with house made glaze or bbq sauce, potatoes rich with fine cheeses, tender vegetables, and a variety of freshly baked bread. My most recent filet came with mashed potatoes that were nothing special, barely-cooked ordinary veggies, and rolls that may well have been take and bake from the store. No glaze or bbq sauce, just herbed butter. For the first time ever, I left half my plate. "

  • "I expected it to be good but not great since it is in such a good location ( i.e. tourist trap), but was I wrong. The view is fantastic, the food exceeded my expectations ( fyi, i went to cooking school so I should know). The service was perfect ( thank you Jennifer). It was our first time to the River Walk, we could not decide between this restaurant or the one next door, so they held our reservation and waited for us to go look at the other restaurant to check it out. Very nice of them! My wife had the seafood tower very good. (Ask them to leave off the old bay , if you do not like that) The $ is about what you would expect and I felt the experience was well worth the $. ( not true in most places now a days). We already plan to return!"

  • "We had a party of two. The entrees were great, the caesar salad was a new take on the theme, and the service was attentive. We'll definitely go back again. "

  • "Great location for outdoor dining. The food is not very good. We ordered the calamari appetizer to start. The calamari was over cooked and had too many conflicting flavors on the plate. If you break the plate down to just the marinera sauce and feta it would be much better. I am not real sure who thought it was a good idea to drench the plate with balsamic vinager. My wife ordered the crabcake dinner with orzo pasta. She did say the crabcakes were good but the orzo was way over cooked and bland. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ special with baked oysters and cornbread. Pork was good but the oysters were terrible they appeared to have been sitting out and reheated. Very expensive for low quality food we would not go back. "

  • "No check for adult drink refills. Ziti terrible. Food warmers didn't keep the food warm. Buffet selections adequate. Line to get the food was a bit chaotic. Not a typical. visit Would no doubt have done better ordering from the menu."

  • "Was crowded and very loud. The food was good, not great. The issue was the service. Renee was our server. She was polite, but not attentive. We ordered wine and after the first pour, never re-filled. She never refilled water until we asked. Had asked about substituting an item on the seafood appetizer and she forgot to ask the chef. When they brought the entrees out (about 30 minutes later), it was then that I was told they were out of the Swordfish that I had ordered. I do not blame the server for that, but the chef for not notifying her. When the manager came over (don't remember her name), she was belligerent and also blamed the chef instead of taking responsibility. They did comp my entrée, but her attitude was poor. Would not recommend."

  • "Took my mother in law here for Mother's Day. We have been here a few times over the past years and had marginal experiences but since it is such a great location, I thought I would give it one last try. Here is my sense -- it is for tourists as the management doesn't seem to want to improve and warrant return visits by locals. The location is great if you are lucky enought to be seated outside or next to a window. Decor is nice enough although the interior seems to bounce noise around making it exceptionally loud. The service we received was slow and hit or miss (forgot the bread, couldn't keep orders straight). The food is pricey. Mine was cold and somewhat flavorless. Ice cream was melted. Felt strongly - so wrote this review. "
