It was a delightful evening.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe eat at Rivers every timeWe eat at Rivers every time we go to the Lyric. We always had good experience there.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent serviceWe were arriving by Park District bus trip and ended running late for our reservation. Called Rivers and told them we would be late - they held the reservation for us, even tho the restaurant was full. Served us quickly. We have time for a. Ice lunch and got to the theater in plenty of time for the play. We were very pleased with the service. We would not hesitate to eat there again.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner before a showRivers was chosen for its proximity to the Lyric Opera House. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and our server was excellent. The large outside area was packed so we ate inside which was very comfortable.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat before the operaI brought friends who had not eaten there before (I had) and they all said their food was excellent and would certainly want to come again. The service was friendly and prompt without being intrusive on our conversation, which is very important to me. The menu had such good choices it was difficult to decide but we each thought our own decision was the best one, so everyone was more than satisfied. It had been a few years since I ate at Rivers, and I was hoping it would still be good. It was better than i remembered and I/we will absolutely be coming again. Our train was late arriving and when I called the restaurant to explain, they said that they would mark the reservation, and hold the table for us - excellent!!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent spot on the River.Excellent spot on the River. Good salad for lunch.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for a nice summer evening!First time at this restaurant! The location is awesome the food was very tasty and the service was excellent. Park in the garage after 5pm on Madison and west side of Wacker Drive for free for 2 hours. You will see an attendant that will guide you where to park. Will definitely return.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood ChoiceIf you are looking for a good restaurant in the neighbourhood of the opera, this place is well worth considering.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-Opera DiningGreat location to meet and dine prior to going to the Opera.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood foodThe fish is very good! Food was really good.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Husband and I are big fishMy Husband and I are big fish eaters. Halibut, which is one of our favorites, was on the special list for the night, so we ordered it. If memory serves me right, it was layered with diced red potatoes, fresh spinach, finshed with a very light lemon sauce. Outside of the Halibut had a bit of crunch to it, like they had quickly pan seared it. We have eaten good fish at Rivers before, but this was fabulous!
Also, we were 40 minutes late for our reservation, due to traffic, and I called ahead to let them know. The place was full inside and out, they held our table! Service was fast enough to get us to the show we were seeing. Will go back!
Can't beat the 2 hour free parking, when validated by restaurant.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFine diningWe ate before attending the opera. They served the meal quickly without rushing us. We walked across the street for the opera.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Rivers was excellent as usual. I came here for a business lunch and appreciated the prompt service. The spicy tomato soup (actually spicy!) and salmon were both delicious. Very frenzied lunch environment!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good - easy to enjoyFood was good - easy to enjoy lunch and conduct business4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiter was very nice and respectfulWaiter was very nice and respectful. Didn't keep checking to see when we wanted to order, what we needed, and so on. Just let us talk and relax. Booths are roomy. Food is very good.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious scallops, lobsterDelicious scallops, lobster bisque and risotto. Good bread and herb butter. So-so desserts. Up-close view of the Chicago River south branch if you request a river-view table. Likely it's even better after the weather's warmer and the patio is open.
Frustrating handout describing a salad and three entress, but with no prices! The waitress had to check on this, and came back to report that the prices were the same as on the regular menu. What's the point? The Maker's Mark whiskey sour had a puzzling taste---not exactly sweet-sour.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPS, Open Table needs to addPS, Open Table needs to add an option to "Select Special Feature" - "Good for Business Breakfast"4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMthis restaurant is underappreciatedthis restaurant is underappreciated. Pumpkin cheesecake in April was a bit odd for this time of year.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLow-key delicious findVery low-key place for dinner on a weekend. It felt like an escape from the big city! Relaxing, classic American standards on the soundtrack, dim lighting, great river view and delicious food. The food isn't inspiring or inventive; it's solid American (Chicago) cuisine. The salmon is delicious, we both ordered it. The bread pudding dessert was also super yummy. Skip the crab cakes, they tasted frozen. Opt instead for the spicy tomato soup.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAgain, had great service,Again, had great service, love the cashew chicken salad, and enjoy that I can meet my friend for a quick lunch.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI have gone to Rivers manyI have gone to Rivers many times for lunch meetings and the resturant continues to offer great service.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe regularly eat at RiversWe regularly eat at Rivers before the Opera. The grouper has been a favorite for years. For the first time this Friday the grouper was less than spectacular. It was still good, but not nearly as good as every time before this. The steaks on Saturday were very good.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for pre-opera diningWe eat here frequently, usually before the opera. It is right across the street from the Lyric and the staff understands the time constraints. The food has always been excellent and the service attentive and friendly. Most recently at our table we had the tuna special (served with bok choy, shrimp, and wasabi), and the salmon and crab cakes from the regular menu. All were beautifully presented, in not overwhelming portions. Although the bar is lively, the main room is reasonably quiet and amenable to conversation3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for pre- OperaGreat place for pre- Opera dinner. Good food, well- prepared, prompt service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFish stew was wonderful. GoodFish stew was wonderful. Good variety and chock full of fish withan excellent broth. Great view even though it was still too cold to eat outside.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was the first time weThis was the first time we had dined at Rivers on a non-opera night, so we were able to enjoy a very relaxing, unhurried
get-together with our guests - six of us. We were not pressured by our waiter, Derek, who couldn't have been more
pleasant. Two or three of us had your clam dish which was absolutely magnificent - actually the best clam meal that
I have ever had. Kudos to the chef, please. Everyone commented favorably on their respective selections from the menu
and we all left with a positive air from the overall experience. This was very satisfying to me as the host of the occasion.
Thanks to everyone at Rivers.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI now have a place to meetI now have a place to meet clients that can keep things moving. the bar is pretty loud and not for me but the dining area was perfect. Excellent3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIt took a while for the hostessIt took a while for the hostess to see me waiting. Another employee could have said hello. Everything else was great!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis review might be a bitThis review might be a bit off, especially with regard to the noise level and possibly service as we dined alone. It was a Monday night and we got there a half-hour before they closed. We were the only patrons in the place. The food was very good. My son had duck and loved it. The burger my daughter ordered was way too big and came with a giant stack of fries. They do not have a kids menu and nothing on the regular menu was to her liking, so they brought her the bar menu to order from. She really did love the burger, though. I had a shrimp entree and lobster bisque to start and both were fine. For dessert my daughter had the flourless Choc cake and my son and I the sorbet trio, Yum! Don't rely on GPS! I got lost several times!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI live about 25 miles fromI live about 25 miles from Rivers but every time we go to the opera we choose to eat at Rivers. The food is excellent, the service superb and the price is, relatively speaking, reasonable. However, when I worked nearby, rivers was the place I took clients for lunch or after work drinks.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and the frontGreat service and the front hostess was very nice, understanding we were 10 minutes late.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the duck and it wasWe had the duck and it was too salty from marinating. When told that we going to opera, they helped us with selecting items from the menu that wouldn't take too long from kitchen to table. Also the server was very knowledgeable in selecting our wine.
We plan on returning to Rivers in the future, even if we don't have an opera.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Pre-Opera dinnerThis is particularly good for pre-opera.
