I have been to The Rivers before and had a memorable experience in every way. This time I did not enjoy the food. The bacon-wrapped duck was dry and chewy-- and I normally LOVE duck. A little more fat trimmed would have worked better-- and maybe a nice sauce over the crispy bacon cover.

The restaurant felt inviting from the minute you walked in the front door. We chose to dine outside on the terrace overlooking the river so we never spent much time inside but you could tell the patrons at the bar and in the dining areas were enjoying themselves. it was just a very pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant is perched right on the edge of the river with the gentle sound of rushing water below. Our server was very friendly with just the right amount of attention to see to our needs. The food was excellent. We had the trout and the cod and both were prepared and presented at the highest level. The "Decadence" cake for desert was to die for and satisfied us both. I would definitely make a return visit when in Glenwood Springs again.

Rivers is about a mile from downtown Glenwood, situated above the river (hence the name?!). It was a warm fall evening so chose to eat on the deck. The menu has a wide variety of choices, prices are right, and the food itself is excellent!

We went fairly late on a weekday, so not much of a crowd. Atmosphere was good, although because it was after dark we really didn't get the benefit of the scenic riverside setting. Staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Sirloin steak was decent (although a bit overcooked), side dishes were nice, and vegetable lasagna was very good.

We had a lovely time at the Rivers! The staff were so friendly and the service was spot on. The food was also very good and creative. The prices were much more reasonable than I expected, as well. Actually, a fairly inexpensive restaurant. Some of the other diners were loud and obnoxious and the atmosphere was much more casual than I expected, but overall a nice time.

After a weeklong stay in Glenwood Springs, we dined our last night at The Rivers restaurant. We had been there 10 years ago on our last trip though the area (we're from Iowa). The quality was terrific then and even better now! Lots of healthy menu items, some gluten-free. We had the trout and buffalo meatloaf. . . both extremely tasty, large portions and side dishes of cooked veggies and potato or rice. We sat along the railing near the river and enjoyed the changing light and river views. We highly recommend this dining experience.

Lovely spot on the Roaring Fork River. Loved the white tablecloths. Very attentive service. Bacon wrapped duck and blackened filet, both very good. Carrot cake was outstanding, chocolate cake was excellent. Decent wine list. We chose to eat inside as it does get chilly once the sun goes down but what a nice dining deck. Would definitely go back.

Lovely restaurant on the river. We sat inside which was very charming with linen. Outside was more casual. The only issue I had was the $10 mac & cheese on the kids menu that looked exactly like what I make out of a box. For $10 something homemade would have been nice or charge less for the out of the box version.

The owners must not know what they have. This restaurant sits right on the banks of the Roaring Fork River, offering its patrons an incredible view. Unfortunately, all the tell-tale signs of a struggling enterprise totally ruined our experience. The restaurant is very poorly manicured and improperly maintained. The atmosphere and menu items are dated. Very few people were there. Our server was kind of awkward. The wine was over-poured and there were several staff members just sitting around playing on their phones (including what appeared to be the manager). The men's room was not clean and had graffiti on the wall. The list goes on and on. I'm not sure why we stayed. We would not visit Rivers Restaurant again in its current condition.

We sat out on the patio overlooking the river. It was a beautiful, romantic setting. The good was lovely and the service was excellent. We had the steamed mussels for our appitizer. They were perfectly steamed and in a delicious beer based sauce. The fish and chips were both very fresh and tasty. Hubby ended up getting the corn chowder and a garden salad. He really enjoyed both. Our table was ready when we arrived. We sat out on the deck with a beautiful backdrop of the river and mountains. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The service very good and friendly. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. We had a wonderful experience. The only negative was that there was a large group having dinner inside and they were very noisy. We were glad that we sat outside. We will return here the next time we are in Glenwood Springs.

I used to work at this restaurant from 1987-'91 when it was named Penelope's... I loved it then & still love it now! You can't beat the view from the deck, the whole building is gorgeous & the staff very friendly. We ended up having drinks & dessert on the deck on a Saturday night then came back for brunch on Sunday... had the delicious Prime Rib hash, every bit as good as I remembered!

We were able to sit on the deck, which was the best part. The service was horrible, the server was awkward and inattentive. We asked our server and the manager for more butter and were ignored. Our glasses remained empty and he never asked about the food. Friends of mine ordered the lobster tail and it was under cooked as was the salmon. He rattled off the specials but gave gave no prices. I ordered the halibut special, it looked horrible, but tasted pretty good. The prime rib was over cooked and the ahi tuna looked grey. He even added items to our bill that we did not order. I informed the manager, while she took off our bottle of wine her reception was less than apologetic.

When I booked the reservation, I stated it was our 25th wedding anniversary but nothing was said or done. I couldn't even get a second glass of wine. The waitress asked if I wanted another & took the glass & we waited. Then my husband told the waitress & she said she forgot & was busy. And that was that, we couldn't wait to pay the bill & get out.

Eleven of our family members made Easter reservations for lunch and upon arrival the table was not ready. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit outside and never explained that it would be very sunny or that the tables outside were not as beautifully decorated as the ones on the inside. Personally, for an Easter event the inside tables were elegant and nice and we were taken outside to 3 connecting tables (one with a table cloth and the other 2 without) in a very hot environment with 4 kids ranging from 3 to 10. Silverware was not even set up. Hmmm.... For our FIRST time there I was highly disappointed. Waitress was nice and food OK.......we ordered the crepes, prime rib hash, and french toast.

We booked this restaurant for Easter Brunch for 12pm. When we arrived there was a long line and no hostess to be found. About 5 minutes later (12.05) she came and found our reservation and told us to wait. My husband went to get a drink at the bar. Finally at 12.30 we were seated, and my husband although seated at the bar was never served a drink. The barman was simply too busy with table drinks - not good. After we were seated it took 8 minutes for the waitress (after we finally asked for one)to take our drink order and another 10 mins for us to get it. The food was good and the waitress was nice the place was just understaffed and the wait staff and barman just could not give good service which just made our Easter lunch very frustrating.

We were on vacation in glenwood and wanted some American game meat. We looked up this restaurant on open table, my wife wanted the meatballs but apparently they don't have those anymore, so she tried the bison meatloaf which was delicious and full of flavor. I had the lamb dish and is was also very rich in flavors abs did not disappoint. My son had The Elk quesadilla and he also loved it. Food was great, service seemed a little rushed. The view we had of the river right outside our window was beautiful. Overall, it was good and I recommend it to anyone who is in the glenwood springs area.

I was happy to be able to make a reservation for Rivers since the town of Glenwood Springs was overflowing with families on Spring break. We met my dad, stepmom and niece there as they had just made it to town and the place was fairly empty. We wondered if that was a foreboding of a poor dinner experience, but we were very pleasantly mistaken! The 6 of us who dined enjoyed our meals of prime rib, buffalo meatloaf, shrimp fettuccini, and lamb osso bucco. Delicious! My stepmom even asked the chef to come out to take a bow! Our server, Kim, was excellent. The restaurant is a lovely place and in the summer it would be so nice to sit outside to enjoy the mountain views and the river. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!
