A word from River's End
The epicenter of Sonoma Coast dining...the River's End is located in the quaint village of Jenner by the Sea about 20 minutes north of Bodega Bay. The restaurant is set on a bluff overlooking the Russian River spill into the Pacific Ocean. During lunch you can watch the Osprey dive in the river for fish or the harbor seals frolic at riverside. Dinner time is all about the sunset ... the show is worth the visit. Fortunately, the restaurant chefs and service staff aim to outdo the natural surroundings. The kitchen prepares California cuisine with a focus on local ingredients. Chef Martin Recoder prepares menus that are changing with the seasons and delight the heart. The service staff is led by Maitre d'/Owner Bert Rangel, who has owned and managed the restaurant for over 10 years. The Chef in the Redwood Bar is talented Patrick Keane. Trained at the French Culinary Institute, Patrick utilizes the freshest ingredients and classic techniques to create truly “Artisanal Cocktails”.Continued

  • "Rivers End is situated at the mouth of the Russian River and lends itself to spectacular views of the Pacific coast. After enjoying a drink before dinner on the deck as the sun dropped into the ocean, we were treated to a memorable meal. Rich in history (as shared by Patrick - the attentive bartender), Rivers End is well worth including in your travel plans.!"

  • "We brought my brother and sister in law here last night to celebrate their anniversary and The River's End was a hit. We are locals and view this place as special in every way. We sat at the window with a view to die for: as the sun set over the Russian River as it empied into the Pacific Ocean. We started with a bottle of bubbly and a first course and Jason our waiter was superb. He was knowledgable about all of their wines, never rushed our table which allowed us to have a leisurly dinner. The food was so fresh and beautifully prepared. The ceviche, the beet salad, the ahi; wow. What a wonderful evening."

  • "The oysters with wasabi tobiko were exceptional, and well priced. The mignonette was incomparable. I went back for more the next day. Also the duck was rich and savory, and the portions were sizable."

  • "My compliments to the chef who prepared my Duck Two Ways entree. I am a classically trained chef who knows and creates great food. Well, the duck breast I had on a romantic get-away to the Sonoma Coast was absolutely the best duck breast I have EVER tasted! It was perfectly prepared, moist succulent...every bite was exquisite! The duck confit rolls were delightful but I would have preferred more duck breast, if given the choice. My boyfriend, Chris, enjoyed the White Prawns and Pasta. He said the prawns, pasta, and sauce were excellent, but he prefers his pasta a bit more al dente. However, he ate every bite! For dessert, we shared the wonderful Chocolate Cardamom Ice Cream - just a perfect ending to a fantastic meal."

  • "We have been eating at Rivers End for 7 years, to give perspective. River Ends food is stuck in the early year 2000. They need to update from the standard duck, bland fish, unsurprising vegetable dishes and get with the new world of creativity. The food has become conservative and you can do much better is SF. Needless to say the ambiance is superior and it is a great drive up the coast. The dinning room needs a face lift as it has not changed in 10 years."

  • "We arrived about an hour early for our reservation so we could sit on the deck and watch the sun set over the Pacific coast. Nirvana! Then the staff seated us at a window side table and served us the most fresh and fabulous ahi poke. I the had the "duck two ways" while my husband had the filet. It could not have been more lovely!"

  • "We brought three of our friends with us for their first visit to River's End. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere as usual! Friends said they will be back. Could have dialed up a little better weather, but the sun peaked out a little bit prior to setting behind some clouds for good."

  • "A special friend wanted to treat me to a special day -- of my choosing, he said! I decided on a lovely drive up the coast from the Bay Area with a lunch destination at River's End. I had eaten there once, 9 years ago, and he had never even been that far north up the state. We both found everything to be exquisite! From appetizer (Ahi Poke) to salad (that delightful Technicolor Beet creation!) to his White Prawn Pasta dish and my Sea Bass - we could not have asked for any more delicious dishes! On the drive home, we began planning our next trip to River's End. Perhaps for dinner next time."

  • "You can't go wrong with this beautiful Pacific Ocean setting with only one lousy exception - Parking - Highway 1 is trecherous at best in any season, but this place has limited parking, so just go with lotz of patience and get off the highway safely!"

  • "We came here for a birthday celebration. I booked for a sunset dinner but there was pea soup fog so don't always expect the view. Food and service was above average and I would recommend it for others."

  • "There simply is no better view from a restaurant than this one overlooking the Russian River flowing into the Pacific. Water crashing against craggy sea stacks. A resident harbor seal colony. Herons, egrets, osprey, hawks, and occasional bald eagles soaring along the river. Migrating whales. Add to that the most spectacular sunsets in captivity. What more could you ask for while dining on consistently excellent cuisine? Well, you could ask for better service. We are locals and know Rivers End well. The only flaw with our most recent visit was a poorly trained, not particularly helpful nor attentive waitperson. This was a Tuesday night so, hopefully, the regular friendly professional crew returns for the weekend shifts."

  • "This is one of our favorite places. We are so happy they have maintained high quality throughout the years. Catch it on a clear day and the views are spectacular. Food is always great and the service, too."

  • "We both had the crab tasting menu. Total bill including tip was about $225 - a bit too much for what we got. The food was good but not excellent. The portions were light. The service was above satisfactory. The sunset was amazing. The ambience was nice with the exception of how they have their restaurant set up. Peopole are standing around, crowded into the entry and bar area, unless you wanted to stand outside in the cold wind, waiting to be seated at any of many available vacant tables. If you are looking for intimate dining you might want to consider a different restaurant."

  • "We went here for valentines dinner. The menu is very limited. Also online it stayed that they had clan chowder but we came in to find out that it was seasonal. The duck confit rolls were dry however my husbands duck entree was delicious. I had the white prawns and pasta which was great as well sans the mushrooms."

  • "We went there on Valentine's Day and went whole-hog by getting the five-course crab sampler meal ($84 each). Although portions are small, each one is a gem, tasty and artfully plated. Although generally pricey, you can get a hamburger and fries or fish and chips for less than an-arm-and-a-leg. Service is very good and your server will give you a detailed description of what you're getting. If the fog abates, you get a nice view of the mouth of the Russian River and Goat Rock state beach, which at times during the year is a sea lion haunt."

  • "This special was out of this world! Each course was great in taste and appearance, then the next course was even better. The crab dessert made out of sorbet, orange, and more was text around the world!"

  • "Has been a favorite of ours for many years, however, the last 2 times there not only was the food off but the service as well. Even considered not going again due to how poorly it fared. Went on Valentines for lunch and everything was as good as before. Although our favorite server Leechee (sp) was not there, our server Kate did a great job and even answered all my stupid questions. :-) Will be back!"

  • "Parking in the main lot off the road is very hard to come by, but we were able to park way down below on a second lot near the water. Once seated it took an unreasonable amount of time to get the menu explained and our drinks ordered. For a nicer restaurant it was disappointing. The views are amazing and the food and wine were great as well. So much so that it easily redeemed the unfortunate start. Dessert menu appeared run-of-the-mill and the ice cream was just fine. All in all a very nice evening out. The views are great and so the place it packed at sun down and can be busy. If you can, I would suggest having a glass of wine elsewhere during sunset and having dinner reservations for later (or earlier if summer)."

  • "We dined at River's End on New Years Eve. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the setting was beautiful. I requested a drink that the bartender was not familiar with. I told him what was in it and he made it perfectly. I highly recommend River's End!"

  • "Thanks for a great late lunch experience. We had a beautiful window table and could not have asked for a more beautiful weather day. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck before going to our table and we were never rushed to be seated. They let us know about 15 min before they were going to stop serving for lunch so that we could go in and sit down. The hostess was so friendly and really made you feel welcome. Our waiter was also great and fun to talk to. The food was very good. Fresh and nice presentation. We stopped here on a 2 day get-a-way to Fort Ross and what a way to start things off. I would come back for sure."

  • "We have been to River's End for the Crab Tasting menu once before. I did like this year's offering, although there was the one portion of it that didn't work at all - the gumbo - which was like a bitter lentil soup with a chunk of crab dropped into it. Last year they served a tomato crab bisque, which was much much better. I hope they go back to the bisque. Other than that one problem, the atmosphere was fantastic. It's always a place we go to for our anniversary, if the weather is good, and it always seems to be."

  • "We were in Sea Ranch over the 2013/2014 New Years holiday and decided to have dinner at Rivers End at sunset on our way back to SF area. What a terrific choice! Not only was the ocean sun set view spectacular, but every single item we ordered was amazing. The mushroom soup was the best we've ever tasted. The beet salad (really the beet tower) was terrific. For entre we had the fish and also the shrimp pasta. Needlesstosay, we were all eating off each other's plates because everything was too amazing not to share. Awesome decision to break up the trip from SeaRanch to SF and celebrate the first evening of the new year."

  • "We have dined at River's End several times in the last 15 months. This last visit was a big disappointment. The greeter didn't seem to care that we had a reservation and a special seating request. Although we were the first people seated in the largest room, our server brought water, took orders, and delivered food to other diners before us. I asked for a hamburger without cheese and cooked medium. It came WITH cheese and cooked rare. No crab dishes were available a la carte; everyone at the table needed to order the expensive tasting menu to get any crab. In light of this, the menu seems simply strange."

  • "For a restaurant that is not only at the end of a river (where the Russian River meets the Pacific), it is in the middle of nowhere in Bodega Bay. We have been there both in the summer (where we saw a lovely sunset) and just after Christmas, in an atrium decorated with white feathers looking like snowflakes. All the food was wonderful, with the exception of one dessert, an innovative attempt at making a British Trifle with a puree of butternut squash. Not good. Bur everything else, from the duck two ways and a filet mignon, the food was beautiful and perfect. Laina Holzman"

  • "We had a table by a window with a magnificent view of the Russian River where it accesses the Pacific Ocean. There was a good selection of wines by the glass to accompany our delicious appetizer of mushroom soup and tri-colored beet salad. The two-way duck, white fish and Ahi Tuna dishes for our main courses were equally. The shared chocolate mousse for dessert was divine. Topped with lovely service, our experience was memorable."
