Diner Reviews
  • "The underground parking is very convienent and have you parking ticket validated by the hostess and your get the first 2 hrs free. You just pull up off of Wacker Drive in front and drive down to the garage. The restrauant is very clean and so are the washrooms. They have deck seating if you want to eat outside and overlook the river."

  • "The decor of this restaurant is wonderful. The food is alright though my steak was a bit charred although my friends lamb was good. Service was poor, they seemed a bit understaffed."

  • "Delicious experience! Manager took time to come to our table to explain the portion size for the appetizer my wife ordered. Good customer service. We will be back to experience the outdoor dining when the weather warms up."

  • "Great location, near trains, good food and drinks; on the pricier side, but in part due to location. Service was good too!"

  • "It's been awhile since going out for dinner in the city, and with tickets to the Lyric, Rivers was the perfect choice. We are NEVER disappointed when we eat there. LOVE the food!"

  • "The kitchen was quite slow but the food was great when it did arrive"

  • "My friend and I dined at Rivers before the Opera on a Saturday night. The service was friendly and very efficient. Are meals were served in less than ten minutes. My seafood risotto was decadently rich and chock full of scallops, shrimp and mussels. The spinach salad was delicious. We were on our way to the Lyric in less than an hour, without feeling rushed."

  • "Good food and service. A bit pricier than I'm used to, but probably more typical for the area. Appropriate for a business lunch."

  • "I met friends for lunch during the work week....while it was a friendly lunch, we all work in the city and don't have a lot of time to dawdle. The server took care of us and made sure that we got our food FAST. We were able to visit comfortably, and not be rushed, but if one of us had to duck out, they didn't have to cut their meal short. The only issue was my lunch wasn't delivered as ordered... there was tomato on my sandwich, and fries instead of fruit. That was quickly remedied, and my food was delicious."

  • "This is our dinner after the opera place. The location is ideal for us and many people come after the opera in spite of the fact the opera has opened two restaurants. The food selection is always very good with plenty of seafood, pasta and beef entrees and appetizers. each of us enjoyed our seafood entree and dessert. With the advent of daylight saving time the view of the Chicago River is enhanced."

  • "Rivers was a delight on all levels, the restaurant offers great selection of entrees, everything we ordered was delicious, the service was excellent and look forward to returning. Wonderful new addition to dining in Chicago"

  • "I had the scallops and my wife had the sea bass. Both were the absolutely the best we ever had. I highly recommend Rivers"

  • "Rivers has an excellent menu, they are centrally located and they are fast. I have a difficult time finding upscale dining for business lunches that can only last an hour and Rivers has never disappointed me. While their seafood selections are great, they also have great non-seafood options so most people can find something pleasing to order."

  • "Rivers never fails to deliver a good meal and nice ambiance. The wait staff is always attentive. This is a definite plus being so close to Lyric for lunch or dinner."

  • "Been to Rivers many times & the food has been great. This time it was just okay. Since I was there last, the entrée accompaniments had changed. I understand this is seasonal, but the replacement should be equally as good. Fish I ordered used to come with whipped potatoes & green beans - delicious. This time, beets and Brussels sprouts in some sort of tomato puree - not even close to good. I also ordered a salad of heirloom tomatoes, it came with cherry tomatoes - not the same thing. One of the people in the group ordered the tuna with Soba noodles - no soba noodles on the plate. Looked like thin spaghetti. Not sure what was going on that day, but lunch fell flat. Also, the server replaced iced tea w coke. Really?"

  • "We came in early for dinner 5:30. The restaurant had just opened. So it was not very busy and we actually sat and ate right at the bar it was very comfortable. The bartender was great and the food was outstanding! Surprised it was not busier but the location is not down in the shopping district and it sounds like they are busier during the week with business people. The shrimp brochette was awesome and the bone in rib eye melts in your mouth good."

  • "My fiance and I dined in at Rivers for the first time. When we walked into the restaurant, we felt a calm and pleasant atmosphere. We sat by the window, which gave a bit of a scenic view of downtown, which was nice. My fiance ordered a beer that they had just ran out, and our server gave good, knowledgeable suggestions for beers. We ordered the grilled shrimp bruschetta for starters. Then for entrees, we ordered the grilled Atlantic salmon and seafood risotto. Everything was delicious. We would definitely dine at Rivers again, but this time we want to try the outdoor dining!"

  • "I have only been here one time but found it to be a nice place. Disappointed a bit when we walked in and could not find a hostess anywhere. We finally just went and sat down and eventually a waiter came to check us out. The food was good and a nice place to stop on your way home if via the train."

  • "Not great dining but solid lunch menu, reliable, and responsive service makes this a good place for a lunch meeting in the West Wacker area as well as for a reliable dinner before the opera ."

  • "My reservation was for 6 p.m. My grandson, coming by public transportation, didn't arrive until almost 6:30 p.m., but when he arrived, we were led to a lovely booth, ordered,, ate and got the check (which we split) in enough time to get to Lyric at 7:30 p.m. I had the seafood ravioli and a Caesar salad -- appropriate for Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito." Couldn't ask for anything better than that."

  • "We were a party of nine that had issues getting to Rivers on time. They did a great job getting us served and out to the opera on time without us feeling rushed. Food was excellent. The seafood risotto was awesome. Everyone loved what they ordered. I know several of our party will be going back there, especially in the summer when the deck is open for riverside seating. They did a great job."

  • "Great place to eat before the opera.I was early and they kindly let me sit at our table and have a cocktail before the rest of my party arrived. Even gave me the delicious bread basket to nibble on while I waited. They knew how to pace dinner so we easily made the performance. Asiago scallops were delicious. Would go back just for them."

  • "Rivers is just south of Lyric Opera, perfect for a winter evening after a matinee performance, after work or prior to an evening show. With easy access inside the 10 Wacker building, it is spacious and we had no trouble with our reservation. Food is well presented, fish oriented, mid price range for typical similar places. By the glass wine offerings are limited but adequate. Not a lot for vegetarians. Nice looking duck dish is on the menu, too. It was easy to find a satisfying Paleo entree. Conversation friendly."

  • "Had another good meal at Rivers. We eat there fairly often when vendors visit our office. The food is always good, service efficient. My only complaint is the menu never changes. Still, a solid choice."

  • "Service was a problem. Very little attention from the waiter. He worked hard but never introduced himself and took too long to come back to the table. He went to get a dessert menu but then served two other tables before coming back to us."

  • "This restaurant is perfect for dining prior to the opera. In addition, the menu choices are extensive enough and the food is always delicious."

  • "We went to Rivers for a birthday celebration lunch. Both of us ordered the steak salad, and both of us were glad we did! Delicious dressing and fresh veggies were complimented by tender and delicious, perfectly seasoned slices of beef. The best! Our server was attentive, frequently stopping by to refresh drinks and see how we were doing. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Went here before the Opera. It was okay. Was seated promptly. The waiter did stop to ask if I wanted a drink while I waited for my date to show, but I didn't know what I wanted yet. I told him I was still looking at the drink menu, so he left...and never came back. My date was 15 mins late, so I was waiting there for 15 mins with no drink and no one checking on me. The food, it was meh. I ordered the sweet potato ravioli and it was very heavily sauced and salty. The combination of flavors could have worked in theory but in execution it was odd and not good. The dessert, however, was delicious. We got the cheesecake. That redeemed it from being a bad meal. Their lunch menu, which I've had a few times, is much better in my opinion."
