Diner Reviews
  • "Beautiful setting, great vibe and wonderful, casual food makes Rivermarket a go to dining spot. I can't wait to go back. John Crabtree has hit a home run with this restaurant!"

  • "Food OK. Prices a little bit on the high side. Fancy names given to average food preparations. Ingredients , meat, vegetables , salad dressing very good. First time there. Outside dining great for a warm summer day."

  • "The prices are on the high side due to the grass fed meat and free range chickens but that is totally acceptable. Beer list was good and I really like the service there."

  • "Trendy and rustic....farm to table food and it's very good! We went on a Sunday-late afternoon....between brunch and dinner...it was a little awkward...but we had a great "lunch". You're overlooking the Hudson River and in a lovely development on the other side of the Tarrytown train station. A little pricey but that's what the "farm fresh" prices are these days. We're going to try DINNER next time so there is a full menu to choose from!!!"

  • "The Rivermarket is a great place to enjoy a dinner with either friends, family or your significant other. We loved the design of this restaurant it is very tastefully done. The food was perfect from the chilled seafood platter to the hamburgers everything was delicious. Only down side was waiting 20 minutes just to get a drink at the bar. It was their busiest time and they seemed to be short staffed at the bar. But overall this is a place you must try. After dinner take a walk along the water it makes for a perfect night out."

  • "I've been to RM approx 5x. Reviewing July 12 (6 pm). Wine list, touted as "extensive" = bit pricey and although I tasted five Sav Blancs, I didn't find any to be exceptional. Settled on a NYS to support my local growers. It was ok, not great. The raw oyster app was not cold, nearly room temp. I told the waiter, he said "ok" and walked away. Lobster Salad app (fav of mine) has gone up in price significantly and the lettuce in the salad did not taste fresh; lobster was delicious. Lamb Slider app was dry, but edible. With all these disappointments, I was hesitant to order dessert, but the Strawberry Shortcake was absolutely fabulous. Overall, not impressed with RM any longer."

  • "Third time here. First time was the best experience. Love the location and the space. This time order was simple: hamburger with cheddar done medium - and that was done right. Bacon crisp - not accomplished. Hair on plate - not really necessary. French Fries cold. Service well meaning but not efficient. There are better places in our town and in the area and not as expensive. It will be awhile before we try RMB&K again."

  • "We understand that this restaurant is owned by the Kittlehouse in Chappaqua where we have dined in the past. Quite frankly you could find better quality food in a diner that at this restaurant. We ordered several different items at lunch and they were all horrible. The amount of food was so off-putting."

  • "My most recent visit to Rivermarket, this time for lunch, was pleasant as usual, but the service has definitely moved up a big notch in professionalism. Thumbs up! : )"

  • "Once again RiverMarket hit the bullseye. Shared the mussels and loved them. Just the right amount of spice! the Niçoise salad was jnust perfect. Fresh! delicious tuna."

  • "We have been there several times for lunch and had a decent experience. Our first time for dinner was bad across the board. Right away, the four of us noticed the odd choice of music (Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd). We asked several times to have them turn and it down and even change the soundtrack. The restaurant is casual but loud college bar music was inappropriate for a pricey dinner. The food was a bigger disappointment. The short ribs were tough and lukewarm, and the swordfish was much too salty. While the server was polite enough, the manager only apologized and took half of our meals off the bill but still charged us for our drinks and dessert. Not great, considering we expected a nice meal and didn't even have an entree."

  • "This is not the first time we've been here, and I must admit I enjoyed the first visit more. This time, I was not just unimpressed but annoyed. Twice, while I wasn't looking at her, the waitress took my beer glass off the table prior to my being finished with my drink. She tried to do the same with my date's wine glass, but my date was paying attention and told her to stop. Never asked if we were done with our drinks or interested in whether we'd like another. Just took the glass. Bar must have been running short. As for the food, my hanger steak was totally unseasoned and virtually tasteless. For the prices charged, this restaurant has much to do to earn its rates and ratings."

  • "We went to Rivermarket and had the lobster salad, because I vividly remembered the fabulous taste from our last visit. Unfortunately, this time it was bland, and not at all as good. The lamb chops were fabulous, as was the strawberry sorbet. Unfortunately, the owner didn't want to hear the comment. So many people order it, he figured we must be wrong."

  • "Basically a disappointment.Expecting much from Kittle House alums but got "just good enough".Layout and design is fantastic with plenty of room to ensure a nice dining experience.Could get more than energetic when full.Wine list is extensive and varied with very reasonable pricing (wait staff will not be very helpful navigating the list).Food opinions ran the gamut of excellent/very good (steak frites, swordfish, burrata ) to OK (whole lobster, mussels) to "MEH" (wild salmon) to "what is this?"(lobster and squid ink linguine far diabolo way too "hot"! couldn't taste a thing).Service, although very friendly and aiming to please, is untrained and amateurish.Place needs to give their wait staff some serious basic training. Step it up!"

  • "no sign to identify the restaurant service was slow, took an unusually long time to get a drink after ordered; out of bootlegger was disappointing swiss chard with the salmon was like mush it was so overcooked prices are high for what you get the salt in a bowl with a demitasse spoon is just weird to me...can't even imagine how many fingers dipped in to that bowl!"

  • "Lovely setting, excellent food. Nice terrace for a drink or meal (we ate inside). Comfortable, light-filled dining room. Interesting design, especially bar area. Outstanding pasta (fettucine with lamb raguout, gnocchi); excellent swordfish, lobster bisque, lobster salad. Chicken with Morroccan spices was good but not exceptional. Wonderful strawberry shortcake. Fruits and vegetables had excellent flavor and were nicely presented. Service was pleasant but our server did not know how dishes were prepared; she had enthusiasm but not expertise. Interesting wine list, heavy on New York wines and beers, with good selection. All in all, a good experience which we look forward to repeating soon."

  • "Fresh local food, great beer list, excellent addition to the Tarrytown dining scene. Still, after coming to Rivermarket for the past so months, I have yet to see a marked improvement in the wait staff. We will keep coming, though, and hope that waitron professionalism improves, especially after the summer temp staff returns to college..."

  • "We went there for lunch on Saturday. The menu was limited but, it's everything are most freshest and tasty! The lobster salad was excellent and fresh cheese are out of world. My friend had a hamburger and he said that he had a most tasteful burger ever in entire his 50 yeas of life! We'd like to come back there for dinner next time."

  • "The thing I like most about this restaurant is the outdoor deck-very nice and in a quiet area. The only unfortunate thing was smelly garbage trucks going by at lunch hour. The service was outstanding. Food was very good."

  • "Food, ambience & service outstanding - friendly knowledgable staff and food - nothing to say except wow and can't wait to go back!"

  • "We had an OK experience. Food was very good. Waitress was mediocre. One of the reasons we went here was because of a review that mentioned how gluten-friendly they are, with GF breads and all. Well, not really. I made reservations 3 days ahead and let them know we were gluten free. As soon as we stepped foot in the restaurant, I also reminded that we're gluten free. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I expected GF buns or something... I think we would've had a much better experience on a non-Monday night. Moroccan chicken was a bit too well done."

  • "It took server quite some time to approach the table to ask if we would like drinks while waiting for 2 members of our party. Once dinner was served, the silverware that the staff had removed, was not replaced, had to get up and go to bar to ask for fork and knife. The servers (one was in training) never came back to see if everything was ok. We wanted to order a second bottle of wine for our entrees, that didn't happen until they came to clear the plates! The excuse was, that she "was busy in the back room". Not acceptable. Bill was $100 per person, ok for quality food, and service, but the service part was lacking. The next day, while looking at bank statement, I saw that I was charged twice!! Unable to reach restaurant by phone all day!"

  • "I requested outdoor dining and arrived at 6:30pm on the dot. The family before us did not have a reservation and the hostess gave them the last outdoor table and made us wait 15 minutes for an outdoor table. Outdoor dining is overlooking a parking lot. Limited menu. I ordered the ricotta gnudi which was basically tasteless. The menu said there was crispy prosciutto which turned out to be the size of 4 eye lashes. My friend ordered the hangar steak which was supposed to be medium rare and came out rare and the fries looked overdone. The drinks are a bit pricey. The waitress was pleasant that waited on us and helpful. Already told me friends that were interested in going here to forget it."

  • ""Farm to table" is the best reason to visit this restaurant/bar. It sits amid a large development of upscale condos just across from the Tarrytown train station. The atmosphere screams "yuppy computer" but the food is excellent. The wine list is quite pricey, but I guess if you can afford those condos you can afford the food and wine. The parking is limited and there is no real view of the Hudson. One has to walk quite a distance to get to the water's edge."

  • "RiverMarket had been recommended to me by a friend so I took my mom and dad for Father's Day -- we were wow'ed by the decor and the food was spectacular! Can't wait to go back with some girlfriends for a great night out ..."

  • "Overall we had a nice meal, but for the cost I would have expected more. Food was good but nothing wowed except for the steamed mussel appetizer. Our server was pleasant but not overly attentive and a bit awkward - spilled wine as she was pouring and wasn't really familiar with the menu when we asked questions. Also the hostess did not correctly check us in and so I received an email from Open Table that I was a no show. The issue was resolved, but definitely impacted my experience. The ambience was great and there is definitely a happening bar scene. But overall, if you are going to charge NYC prices then you expect an NYC experience which I did not feel we got. Maybe would go back just for a drink."

  • "We have been a number of times and each time the experience has been great. Scallops and lobster this time. Done perfectly! Once again the wine list did not disappoint. There are so many wonderful choices. Had a St. Veran that was luscious."

  • "The service was thoughtful. The food presentation was very eclectic. We were three looking for palace to chat and conduct business and we were rewarded with a relaxed service attitude. The owner stopped by to apologize on a menu item not available and offered more dessert. Be prepared for a pricey bill, though. The view of the Hudson River in Tarrytown is fabulous."

  • "My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The food was good but it was nothing out of the ordinary that would make us come back. The ambiance and scenery were lovely but not enough to make this a regular spot for us. The one thing that stood out was the oysters we had as an appetizer. Overall nice place maybe we will give it another shot sometime soon."

  • "Glenn Vogt has a magic touch. He gets the best chefs, and creates wonderful dining experiences, over and over again. Rivermarket Bar & Kitchen is a great addition to the Westchester food scene. Food is terrific. Outdoor dining in the summer will be wonderful. Due to the gigantic size of the place, I would imagine that Friday and Saturday nights would be very noisy. But week nights are not too noisy. Food is divine. Have the lobster salad."

  • "My companion found wax paper in her mouth and was disgusted and coud not continue with the original dish. We were charged for the substituted dish which happened to be a bit more expensive. Of course, the substituted dish would not have been necessary if there had not been a problem. The person in charge was ungracious and not at all apologetic. The restaurant is good looking and the food was ok--a bit too salty. The young lady at reception was lovely. But the bad wxperience will not allow me to return."

  • "This restaurant brings a NYC vibe to Tarrytown. It is also spacious. The food is really good (we had amazing mussels) and the wine list is just right. Lots of beer on tap. It is just a really great addition to the restaurant scene in Tarrytown, which seems to be getting better and better (more variety)."

  • "While the food is very good, try to skip this restaurant on a Saturday night. We asked for a wine reco from the owner who was "too busy" in the kitchen dealing with problems to come to our table. He phoned in the reco from kitchen and the bottle that was brought to us had none of the properties requested. While the waitress was very apologetic, we never heard from the owner directly. Good customer service should start at the top, No? "

  • "Good food, decent service, a bit over priced. But much too loud to hold a conversation at the table without shouting. The effort to hear each other was exhausting!"

  • "We had an 8:00 reservation and did not get seated til 8:20. The service from there was awful, order Also getting mixed up , the meals tan being either too salty or flavorless, meat was tough. All in all would never go back. Very unfortunate since the view is lovely. Also the noise level is far too loud."
