  • "I ordered the venison chop medium rare but it arrived medium well, the server and manager apologized and assured me a new entree cooked correctly would arrive shortly. When my new entree arrived the chop was much smaller than the previous one and it was cooked medium, the server explained because the meat is thin it is difficult to cook it medium rare. When I received the bill there was no alterations to the bill to compensate for the over cooked meal. I explained to the server that although I don't expect a free meal some type of compensation should happen. My husband and I had to eat at separate times. The server apologized and agreed with me and my meal was removed from the bill."

  • "We got to the restaurant just as it was opening so we were the first ones there. Got a choice of tables which was nice for a change. Great service even though the restaurant started to get very busy. We started with appetizers. One in the group had the oysters which were nice and fresh. We also had the beet salad and beef carpiccio for the appetizers which was just a good. We had the Arctic Char and the salmon. The salmon had a panko crust that was absolutely superb. Had the flower pot and the creme brulee for dessert. The flower pot is a dessert that has a meringue mushroom on top, sprinkles of chocolate crumb on the top (dirt) and a custard in the middle with a green tea sponge cake on the bottom. Very unusual and delicious."

  • "We have dined at Sage on a number of occasions but this Saturday evening's outing was very disappointing. Service was good until a table for 6 or 8 junior hockey players arrived, our waiter completely forgot about us and things really went down hill. Tables were rearranged leaving us isolated and drowned out noise wise. Food was fair at best. We had always raved about the organic beets but now found that the new presentation had us cutting up our own beets and the flavour not being nearly as good. We tried a new dessert, A Flower Pot. It was really poor except for the cute clay pot! A second cup of coffee never did appear and finally I just asked for the bill. For a dinner costing over $250 for 2 we expected a lot better."

  • "We've been here many times now and only once was it less than excellent--and on that occasion they did everything possible to make it right. Only flaw of the evening was an inordinately long wait for an order of oysters at the start of the meal, which of course delayed everything else. They need to hire someone who can shuck way faster than they guy they've got. But the oysters were divine as was the rest of our meal."

  • "We were able to make a reservation on short notice on a Friday night. Very few people in the place when we arrived at 6:30. Now that we have eaten there, we know why. The $52 meal came with 5 lettuce leaves, 2 pickled baby carrots, 3 pickled beans and a few other items nicely laid on a plate and served as "salad". The main course I chose was the beef short ribs. A large plate was served to me with 2 short ribs and a smearing of some parsnip puree. The desert was a small 1/2 oz serving of raspberry sorbet and a small chocolate cake with raspberry sauce smeared on the plate. My 6 year old daughter would have left the place hungry, a full grown adult cannot help but to feel ripped off. We literally hit the drive-thru on the way home."

  • "I gave a good rating because my food was exceptional. However, if others at my table were rating, they would not have been so generous. I had the special of the evening, and it was FANTASTIC. I ordered it bacause I wanted a steak, and every other was 10oz or more. The table was unimpressed with their food, particularly for the price. The resaurant itself is beautiful, but the casino is right outside, so that is somewhat of a gaudy distraction. Also, there isn't a washroom in the restaurant. You have to go out into the casino, not classy."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Sage for our valentine's meal. It was lovely - a little noisy as we were seated right beside the entrance to the kitchen - but other than that it was fantastic. The food was delicious (portions are on the small side) and the atmosphere was great. The service was exceptional and the staff were very knowledgeable when asked about specifics (due to food allergies). Will definitley return :)"

  • "We frequent Sage often as it's one of our fave restaurants. We usually get a waiter who recognizes us & service is exceptional, even bring us special steak knives to use, this time we had someone new we've never had before, he definitely wasn't as attentive as the seasoned waiters. Sad to say on this visit we noticed a difference in the quality of the food. The french onion soup was so cold i finished it in 5 mins where it would usually take me until my meal came to finish it. My hubby got the 28 day aged ribeye & it was riddled with fat & grissle. My scallops & risotto would've been excellent had there not been sand in 2 scallops. Probably won't frequent Sage as much as we used to since we've noticed a definite change in quality overall."

  • "Usually I have something bad to say about any restaurant however in this case everything was either well done or at expectation. The food was great and my steak was cooked perfectly. My wife had the chicken which was cooked great, juicy but was not the most flavourful. The service was outstanding and our waitress was friendly and very attentive. I would pass on the calamari however. I am never a big fan and thought it was alight but we still ended up sending it back. But calamari seems to be hard to perfect. They even paid attention to the booth seating I asked for. Thanks Sage!"

  • "Our first visit to sage was fabulous. So, we did have high standards for our return dining experience. Unfortunately, our second visit wasn't quite the same. We had a different server who we think just had too many large tables to himself. We were just forgotten as it was just us. It took calling another server over to get wine refilled and food delivered. He was slow in checking on our pleasure with anything. Our appetizers were good, but cold due to them being much delayed in coming out from when we were told they were ready. Spoke to the supervisor and the one appetizer in question was removed from our bill. Our entrees were great. Dessert was good. We will definitely return to Sage again, but request Megan as our preferred server."

  • "left extremely disappointed first I ordered the fillet bone in med rare my hubby ordered rib eye bone in blue rare we received are steaks cooked wrong I got the blue rare and he got med rare which oh well we switched but kinda annoyed when the waiter said oh thats how med rare looks.The worst part is my husband ordered the oysters for his appetizer and they were full of shell shards and again the waiter said oh you have never had oysters before?? We wont waste our money on over priced small portions again we will hit the keg pay much less with way better food!! If you want to charge exorbitant prices it better be an elevated experience it fell short in all areas!!"

  • "We started our meal with an inventive take on chicken and waffles with Saskatoon berries and foie gras...it was the highlight of the night. For our entrées my husband had the soy duck breast--delicious, and I had the beef Wellington which was on special. With drinks and dessert with tip our night topped out at $200 so it is not an everyday kind of place, but for a special occasion it was a very enjoyable evening made all the better by the fantastic service we received from each person we encountered."

  • "Ambience good. Service great. Food prepared well. 2 of us had Arctic Char, one had the Filet Mignon and one had Crab Cake and Salad. The reason I gave the Food rating a 3 and would not recommend this to friends is that after spending almost $300 on a meal for 4, I should not have had to go into the casino and get a Hot Dog because I left hungry. My biggest complaint is the portion size. If one shares an appetizer and orders a main course, one should not be leaving hungry! Not for $35-$45 a main course! My wife ordered a salad. How expensive can lettuce be???? As for dessert, cheesecake was delicious, but maybe about 1/5 the size of Cheesecake Factory!! If you're looking for a high-priced meal and are on a diet, this is the place!"

  • "We have been to Sage for dinner on several occasions in the past, when we arrived for dinner on Sat night we were met with a wonderful surprise. The menu had been changed somewhat by the new Executive Sous chef Robbie Oram. The food has been elevated to a new level, the flavor profile on some of my favorite dishes had been enhanced dramatically! We are looking very much forward to our next dinner at Sage, BTW the Truffle French Fries - a must have! Thanks Dan for your wonderful service and knowledge of the menu offerings!"

  • "There are very few high end restaurants in the West End of Edmonton, but you can always count on the Sage Restaurant to deliver. My favorite appetizer is the beef carpaccio, my partner, the crab cake. Incredible flavours. The service was great, always look forward to going again."

  • "We visited this restaurant of my in-laws anniversary so was looking for somewhere quiet and elegant. This restaurant fit the bill in décor and ambience, but the menu was a little underwhelming offering items readily available at many a steak house in this city, and probably at a lesser price. The steak sizes offered were astoundingly large (smallest 10 oz, largest 40 oz), so this may appeal to other diners, but is not something I appreciate in fine dining. I had the Chocolate Marquis for desert and the presentation was amazing, which surprised me at this point. The dress code is not enforced at all at this restaurant, so in summary, not a special occasion restaurant and quantity valued over quality. I might visit again if in the area."

  • "This was our first visit to Sage at River Cree. Although it is a tad more expensive than places we normally go, it was worth every penny. The food was excellent!! Steak cooked to perfection and the juiciest chicken breast I've ever had! The wait staff was top notch and very friendly. The manager came by to check that things were good. The only downfall for us was the length of time between courses (especially dinner-dessert). It seemed to take forever and we had to ask a second time to get our coffee. Overall an excellent meal. We will definitely return."
