Previously been here for dinner in May - and all the courses were fantastic. Decided to come back and try the brunch menu. Once again everything was fantastic. We were lucky enough to get a window seat and that made an already great experience perfect. The service was wonderful - and they make you feel like royalty. It's really hard to pick a favorite dish, since everything was 5 star, but I highly recommend the steak tartar and the waffle eggs benedict. The price is $55/pp + tax and tip, but The River Café is awesome and well worth it. Also, you will be surprised by some of the dishes they bring out between the courses you ordered.

The food, ambiance, view, service…everything is amazing and still continues to be such for soooo many years. If you love white glove service, miss the old days of the Rainbow Room, Tavern on The Green and high tea at the Plaza this is the place for you. Food is absolutely fantastic. I had the pancakes with 24 carat gold chocolate (yummy) the best bacon in the world, and the steak was to die for (you can cut with a spoon). I have been a fan of River Cafe since I was a child and it still maintains its reputation for Regal dining right on the water and in Brooklyn. Even after being effected by Hurricane Sandy and renovated it has kept its look.

The food was great for the most part, the service was horrible in my opinion. From not being offered the six course menu to having to ask for bread in the beginning initiated the laundry list of complaints. We waited a long time for our appetizers to come out and even more for our entrees and at that time the wait made us lose our appetite which we felt the dinner could have been a bit more appetizing if it was brought out in a timely fashion. The deserts were brought out with a candle on the one my boyfriend ordered and since we didn't have spoons on our table the two waiters walked around the whole restaurant and back into the kitchen until we had spoons; by time it was given to us our ice-creams were half way melting.

the setting is beautiful, the food very upscale but I dont love the idea of prixe fixe menue only. Service was very overdone, and in fact the different servers couldn't coordinate who was doing what so at one point they changed the wine glasses ( empty) 4 times in 5 minutes.

We have loved the food and the unbeatable view of Manhattan skyline. Unfortunately the service was not as high in quality as the food and the overall feeling may be spoilt when you leave by the unclear check and the two guys at the door pushing you to get a private car on your way back to Manhattan.

So glad that this Brooklyn gem has finally re - opened after Hurricane Sandy. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the River Cafe. We were greeted warmly and wished Happy Anniversary upon our arrival. Our table view was spectacular. Our service was attentive and we were made to feel very special. The food was outstanding! The topper was our two desserts with chocolate signs wishing us a happy anniversary. My husband and I said that was the best meal and restaurant experience we have ever had. We were still talking about it two days later.

We made the trek over to the River Café for a 1 PM lunch, we loved it. The food was spectacular and not overly expensive considering the location and view. We had a table that was right at the window and watching the boats go up and down the river while eating fantastic food and having a nice glass of wine cannot be beat. I had the tuna tartar (outstanding) and the steak (superb). Take lots of pictures and enjoy the meal.

We were a small group of 4 ( 2 couples ) visiting New York from Europe and enjoyed every moment of our dinner at the River Café . The food was great , the service outstanding and very friendly and the view over Manhattan unique . The only negative is the price we had to pay for the taxi which was arranged by the receptionist : USD 49 requested by the driver against 25 mentioned by the receptionist . Otherwise I do not hesitate to recommend anyone to go there for a special occasion .

Was apprehensive that it may be too posh due to strict dress code but the staff were nice & friendly from the start to finish. In any event the food was excellent & definitely the best I have eaten in a long time. Well worth getting dressed up for and it felt special. Recommend the steak, it was better than steak I had at a very expensive steak house earlier that same week. The location is bit out of the way but the view over the river, below the bridge, looking at Manhattan was really nice. Everything was good but the food stole the show for me.

I took my friend to River Café for her birthday while in New York for her very first time. Our reservation was at 7:00pm but we arrived 30 minutes early so that we could enjoy a drink at the bar and watch the sunset behind the skyline of Manhattan! What an amazing view of the city from this restaurant! Not only is the atmosphere at this restaurant beautiful, the bar and wait staff were friendly and very professional. And the food...it was delicious. It's not your average nice restaurant menu. The menu was creative and different. Overall, my friend loved it so much she really didn't want to leave when it was time.

I've been there many times, although the menu seems reinvented, it is not inventive or contemporary, the lobster was chewy and the rest I do not remember, food was not memorable. Service is great although pretentious and the restaurant needs an architectural renovation. A good experience not a great one; I might come back if they renew and truly reinvent the place and menu.

It is pricey but the food and experience won't let you down. I just took my wife there for our anniversary and she was over the moon that I had made reservations there. We didn't have the ideal table by the window like the first time but no matter where you sit you still have the great view.

We arrived at the charming River Café to celebrate our son's and daughter-in-law's upcoming birthdays. The gracious, charming entrance provided a lovely first impression. We were warmly greeted and seated by the window with excellent views of the water, sunset and later fireworks that lit up the River! We had excellent, reasonably priced wines and a sumptuous, delicious meal. The service was flawless and perfectly timed so we could talk and enjoy our fantastic food. I haven't been at the River Café in more than 30 years, but its new reincarnation is a delight for New York and visiting gourmets. Run, don't walk to the River Café for your next special evening! This was my wife and our friends who joined us, first trip to New York. So a special evening was in order. The River Cafe did not disappoint. A fine table by the window gave us a splendid view of the skyline, while the piano player tinkled the ivories Shame the Bridge was under repair. We had a few drinks at the bar whilst waiting for a window table admiring the skyline then a fine meal served by the very attentive staff. Even a lesson in practical first aid was given by our waiter when he performed the Heimlich manoeuvre on another guest, luckily for her. Although I needed first aid when I got the check. Food prices are reasonable for the fare, just think the drinks are a bit unnecessarily to expensive. All in a great venue & experience.

We made an early reservation (6 months) and asked for table with a nice view. Information was that Maitre`D decided the seating, and I was afraid that we would be stuck in the back, being non-celebrities, first time there and tourists. How wrong could I be! Prime table, lovely staff, excellent food, fantastic view over Lower Manhattan as the sun set and a perfect evening.
