  • "our experience was perfect end to end (and the weather cooperated). service was gracious from the moment we stepped out of the car, and always attentive yet we never had the sense that anyone was hovering. The food was terrific & the wine recommendation was perfect and of course the room is gorgeous."

  • "The menu, view, and fact that you are on a permanently docked vessel under the Brooklyn Bridge are all pretty awesome! The drink menu is exquisite and the Brooklyn Bridge chocolate cake is an amazing dessert! The service in the way of waitstaff carried a few mistakes on drinks and attentiveness."

  • "The River Cafe has by far the best view among the restaurants in NYC. Food was great, ambiance was great and service was great. Highly recommended."

  • "You have to go there ! Fantastic ! Food was very very well and the view is awesome as well. If we come back to New York we will see us at the next time."

  • "Came here for our one year wedding anniversary. You have to get a reservation way in advance, but very worth it. Service was excellent, food was amazing, and the scene was really set by the added attention from the restaurant staff knowing it was a special occasion for us. Will definitely be going back in years to come for the great experience and setting."

  • "The food and ambiance were excellent. Lobster tail (which is rarely cooked properly in any restaurant), was moist and tender and served with a delectable creamy corn sauce. The lamb was perfectly cooked as well. An assortment of desserts (Highlighted by the Brooklyn Bridge) made it impossible to choose which was best. The only thing left to be desired was the service which was somewhat rushed, with the waiter hovering when it was clear we were not ready to order."

  • "The food and the atmosphere was great and you are treated like royalty. We had a beautiful China set and extra fine wine glasses. The food was alright. We had a complimentary warm milk and oats in an emptied out egg. I personally got the arugula salad and lobster. My lobster I felt was under-seasoned and undercooked a bit. For dessert I got the Apple pie type thing. Very delicious dessert. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and takes you away from the city chaos for a moment or so seeing that is a free standing cafe. And the flowers were the cherry on the top!"

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday at The River Cafe and it was splendid. The views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge were spectacular, as was the food. We would certainly recommend this restaurants for a special occasion!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner experience at the River Café on July 25. First, the location -- on the eastern shore of the East River, with a magnificent view of Manhattan across the water -- was terrific, as the sun set on a beautiful day and the city lights illuminated the sky. Then, the food was excellent, from appetizers through desserts, perfectly complemented by wine recommended by the sommelier. Throughout -- from 20 minutes or so at the bar before dinner through the meal itself -- the service was both impeccable and friendly, with not the slightest haughtiness that sometimes seems unavoidable in restaurants of this caliber. All in all, a perfect evening."

  • "The breathtaking view from our window table set the stage for the rest of the evening. Our waiter was knowledgable, friendly, and helpful. From the complementary amuse-bouche to the personalized birthday dessert, our meal was delicious and innovative. Our appetizers (roasted rabbit, octopus, wagyu steak tartare) were amazing. Main dishes were equally as impressive (steak, lamb, duck). The desserts were to die for. What a wonderful dining experience! While pricey, I would recommend the River Cafe to those looking for an outside the box special occasion meal."

  • "The dining room is absolutely beautiful and the view of the Manahattan skyline is tremendous. The food- not so much. My wife had the fried oysters wrapped in smoked salmon. The oysters were Luke warm at best and the dish would be so-so if the oysters were freshly prepared. I had foie gras two ways and the piece of foie gras with rhubarb was almost frozen. My lobster dish was very good and my wife's black bass was simple but good. My wife's desert souffle was not baked enough to set and she as a chocolate and dessert lover abandoned it. My apple crisp was very good but not worth crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. The tab including tip was $480 for two people, which was expensive given the quality of the food. Simply does not measure up."

  • "Came here with my family on their last night visiting me in New York. The meal was incredible. Everything about the dining room is very "special occasion" and very "old New York"--there are beautiful flower arrangements, lovely live piano, handsomely appointed editors and maître d on hand. Each plate of good was better than the last and beautiful arranged on the plate. Highlights were the wild shrimp appetizer, the lobster entree, and all of the desserts (we tried one of each!). Perfect spot for a celebratory meal."

  • "What a superb restaurant, great location, wonderful food. Just remember if you are going from Manhattan by cab to leave a good hour to an hour and a half before your booking as the traffic is a nightmare"

  • "It has great food, service and view. Years ago I was a regular taking clients there for dinning or private party. I stopped going because they made me so angry in a private party event. In that event, I orally promised 20 people and asked them to prepare for 30 people, the way I always did with them. There were about 20 people showed up that day but they charged me for 30 people. After talking to the management for several times, they still refused to refund the money. They made me feel that as long as they grabbed your money, they don't care about you. It was so insulting."

  • "We had a great time and the views are amazing but the check for three people was VERY high. You're essentially paying for the view because the food and service although good was not amazing. Portions were very small and service was hit or miss. I also found our seating to be rather cramped and uncomfortable. The view of lower Manhattan was beautiful, especially when the sun went down and the city lit up. For that it was very memorable but because of the price I would recommend many other restaurants over River Cafe."

  • "Not a cheap date by any stretch but certainly a beautiful setting with excellent service and food. Had a drink at the bar before dinner and the bartenders were exceedingly friendly. The steak was as good as any steakhouse I have eaten in. Although not a big fan of dessert, all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. The dark chocolate replica of the Brooklyn Bridge was a wonderful end to a great evening. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion."

  • "A fabulous experience from start to finish. The beauty and uniqueness of the setting, are just the beginning. We were treated and seated immediately, and had constant, yet invisible service all evening. The menu was fabulous, and the deserts a must have. For a special or any occasion, the river cafe is not to be missed."

  • "An excellent restaurant for a special occasion, unless you have more dollars than you know what to do with. The food itself was not outrageously expensive for a special occasion restaurant, however the beverage prices are "over the top". Coffee at the end of the meal was $7.50 a cup and I object to the tip being added to the bill- ours being $40. We would have left a tip of course, but the tip included assumes that we were completely satisfied. We had calculated for the two of us that the total bill would be around $300 however with tips and taxes it was closer to $400."

  • "After having not been to the River café since Sandy I was excited to go back and see if it was still one of the greats. Much to my disappointment that would not be the case. Food was good but not great. View was amazing as always. Service was very bad almost to the point of comical. Too bad."

  • "River Cafe continues to out do itself - our first time back since they reopened. Highlights were the rack of lamb and cheese platter after dinner. Piano player and bar staff round out a complete, over the top experience."

  • "We went to River Cafe to celebrate our daughters 17th birthdate and our last day of a New York vacation. We were aware of the prices, and they are high, but I must say that it was worth it. The whole experience was amazing with great service and wonderful interior. The food was as good as expected, or better, and the wines as well. The view is spectacular!"

  • "first time back since hurricane sandy caused such devastation the new "old" river cafe is as beautiful as it ever was it's hard to believe that it was totally destroyed the decor is lovely the ambiance is the same as ever the food is fabulous and the wait staff is superb"

  • "Most high priced restaurants in NYC are good at one thing: high prices. They confuse artistic food presentation and creative food ideas with good quality, and in a rush to be the next "in" place, they forget that they are a restaurant, and not an art gallery or discotheque. River Cafe, re-opened after being closed for some time following Superstorm Sandy, has managed to strike the right balance. The food and wine selection is very good, and even though the place is pricey, you don't leave feeling your pocket has been picked. Moreover, the staff does a wonderful job making good suggestions -- when asked -- and generally being appropriately responsive. Needless to say, the views of Manhattan from river level are extraordinary. Job well done!"

  • "Had a first rate dinner in June and returned for Saturday lunch. Again, welcome, ambiance, food, wine and service were very good. Far superior in every way to the struggling Tavern on the Green. If one wants to compare restaurants, better comparisons are Asiate, Gigino and Blue Hill. Liked the special fresh corn with cream ravioli appetizer. Waiter recommended that the sliced duck breast be cooked medium rare. The thick slices were a bit tough in the restaurant but made a wonderful at home left over. The unusual sweet potato spaetzle was delicious. The trio of sorbets was excellent. The best in the City. For the first time saw a Staten Island Ferry go up the East River and return. Plan extra time for travel because of Bridge construction."
