  • "Not a cheap date by any stretch but certainly a beautiful setting with excellent service and food. Had a drink at the bar before dinner and the bartenders were exceedingly friendly. The steak was as good as any steakhouse I have eaten in. Although not a big fan of dessert, all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. The dark chocolate replica of the Brooklyn Bridge was a wonderful end to a great evening. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion."

  • "A fabulous experience from start to finish. The beauty and uniqueness of the setting, are just the beginning. We were treated and seated immediately, and had constant, yet invisible service all evening. The menu was fabulous, and the deserts a must have. For a special or any occasion, the river cafe is not to be missed."

  • "The six course Chef's special with paired wines was outstanding! The food, the wine, the service, the view were remarkable! Each course provided something special for the palate! I can't think of a dining experience that has topped this one!"

  • "Expensive but it's worth it!! It's really an amazing restaurant"

  • "An excellent restaurant for a special occasion, unless you have more dollars than you know what to do with. The food itself was not outrageously expensive for a special occasion restaurant, however the beverage prices are "over the top". Coffee at the end of the meal was $7.50 a cup and I object to the tip being added to the bill- ours being $40. We would have left a tip of course, but the tip included assumes that we were completely satisfied. We had calculated for the two of us that the total bill would be around $300 however with tips and taxes it was closer to $400."

  • "After having not been to the River café since Sandy I was excited to go back and see if it was still one of the greats. Much to my disappointment that would not be the case. Food was good but not great. View was amazing as always. Service was very bad almost to the point of comical. Too bad."

  • "River Cafe continues to out do itself - our first time back since they reopened. Highlights were the rack of lamb and cheese platter after dinner. Piano player and bar staff round out a complete, over the top experience."

  • "We went to River Cafe to celebrate our daughters 17th birthdate and our last day of a New York vacation. We were aware of the prices, and they are high, but I must say that it was worth it. The whole experience was amazing with great service and wonderful interior. The food was as good as expected, or better, and the wines as well. The view is spectacular!"

  • "first time back since hurricane sandy caused such devastation the new "old" river cafe is as beautiful as it ever was it's hard to believe that it was totally destroyed the decor is lovely the ambiance is the same as ever the food is fabulous and the wait staff is superb"

  • "Most high priced restaurants in NYC are good at one thing: high prices. They confuse artistic food presentation and creative food ideas with good quality, and in a rush to be the next "in" place, they forget that they are a restaurant, and not an art gallery or discotheque. River Cafe, re-opened after being closed for some time following Superstorm Sandy, has managed to strike the right balance. The food and wine selection is very good, and even though the place is pricey, you don't leave feeling your pocket has been picked. Moreover, the staff does a wonderful job making good suggestions -- when asked -- and generally being appropriately responsive. Needless to say, the views of Manhattan from river level are extraordinary. Job well done!"

  • "Had a first rate dinner in June and returned for Saturday lunch. Again, welcome, ambiance, food, wine and service were very good. Far superior in every way to the struggling Tavern on the Green. If one wants to compare restaurants, better comparisons are Asiate, Gigino and Blue Hill. Liked the special fresh corn with cream ravioli appetizer. Waiter recommended that the sliced duck breast be cooked medium rare. The thick slices were a bit tough in the restaurant but made a wonderful at home left over. The unusual sweet potato spaetzle was delicious. The trio of sorbets was excellent. The best in the City. For the first time saw a Staten Island Ferry go up the East River and return. Plan extra time for travel because of Bridge construction."

  • "What an amazing experience we had at The River Cafe for my beautiful wife's birthday on the 10th July 2014. From the moment we arrived the service was exceptional and the food was delicious. The views were spectacular especially after sunset as you are just about under the Brooklyn Bridge right on the water edge looking across at the Manhattan skyline. Having travelled to New York from New Zealand I booked online and the process was very easy and the follow up and reminders were fantastic.Seriously we could not have asked for a better night and we also meet some really lovely people there too. I felt compelled to write this review so if you too are looking for the "perfect night" then The River Cafe is definitely the place to go."

  • "yesthe food is pretentious and bland for my taste, but who cares? This place is all about the mabiance and service. Great views, nice classy decor and appropriate lighting for a fantastic night with the person you love. The brooklyn bridge desert tops it off with something delicious and memorable. Im glad to see it reopened after Sandy, and will always see it asa go-to place when i want to give my company a special night. I was perhaps harsh in describing the food, but it is well presented and Im sure carefully prepared by top chefs. I just like a lot more spices and seasoning in my food. But, as i said, this place has a lot more going for it in terms of view, atmosphere, and presentation."

  • "Fantastic view that delightfully entertains as it changes the NY skyline from day to night. Food was scrumptious from appetizers to dessert. Perfect portions for a high-class restaurant. My only dissapointment came from our server who placed our bread choices on the wrong dishes, on the right rather than the left. Even my 9-year-old and 13-year-old commented on the mistake. Not something you would expect from a restaurant like this."

  • "We are local and the River Cafe remains one of our dearest places for special occasions. Wonderful food, cocktails, and wine served with old school efficiency, respect and courtesy. Manhattan and its lights shimmering across the East River make for a uniquely beautiful setting."

  • "The food was fantastic! Every course for the four of us. The fried oysters wrapped in smoked salmon and topped with caviar was unbelievably tasty. My duck breast was exquiste. And my wife's large ravioli filled with creamed spinach and egg and topped with truffles and grated cheese a wonderful treat. Desserts equally as great. Each course not only tasted really good but looked perfect. Of course be prepared for the. check. For four of us with tax and tip $800.00"

  • "The food was absolutely delicious. The view at sunset was amazing. Best time to plan your dinner is sunset. The waiter we had was very inattentive and we had to search for him every single time we needed something. It was extremely annoying and put a damper on our entire evening. The four of us would have given it 5 stars if our waiter would have been more accommodating! Not our first time there, but it was for our dining companions and the night was not the joy it could have been."

  • "My first time back since Hurricane Sandy and the restaurant remains a gem. Over twenty years coming here and still a 'best in show' experience. Small quibbles here and there but anyone would be churlish to bring them up when the overall experience is superb. The Chef's Tasting and wine pairing remains the best I've experienced."

  • "We were called specifically ahead of time to ask the men not to wear open toed shoes or shorts. We complied with this request and it was a sacrifice to do so on a very hot day as it was. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were men in shorts and even jeans who were allowed in! This was very unfair...either there is a dress code or there isn't. We did complain to our waiter and he brought us cold lemonades to appease us! My husband was extemely annoyed at the restaurant. For brunch, there should not have been a dress code or at the very least, it should be applied to all customers in the same way."

  • "We sat down and were offered cocktails. We went with A View of Manhattan because of the interesting ingredients (bourbon/madeira). Very delicious. We then choose the tasting menu. I had the wine pairing and she had a glass of Riesling. The food was outstanding but due to their very generous pairings, we were about to pass out by course #5 and had to take the rest home with us. The setting is spectacular and a classic Brooklyn view of Manhattan. Staff were very friendly and professional. We should get back there again, maybe with more libation restraint."
