This is the place to go. The view is the best in all of New York. The service is attentive but not over-bearing. The food was delicious - we had the lobster risotto, grilled octopus and tuna tartare followed by the brooklyn bridge.

I've lived in Brooklyn my entire life and had the River Cafe on my bucket list for many years. We finally had the opportunity to attend for our 13th Wedding Anniversary. Food pairing was wonderful on the taste buds, in fact, the ravioli stuffed with sweet corn was delightful and the fig sauce served with our steak; simply amazing. However, if you're an "eater" this place is not for you. It is also known to be one of the most romantic restaurants in the city, however, we found the tables were placed closely together and if were prevy to many conversations. The service was the best i have ever experienced. A lot of tourists on the day we went. Overall, a once in a lifetime experience....

Good food good service once we sat down. Had tonwait almost 30 mins after our reservation time of 10pm to be seated. Were asked to go wait at over priced bar. Once seated the food was great and service was quick and easy. Overall a good experience, but definitely not better than the bunch of times I went before restaurant closed down. Need to bring back the same consistency and service levels. Also it looked like they hired a lot of new staff that were inexperienced.

Although the scenic view is fantastic, food was poor for the price we paid. There are only 2 menus to choose, the normal and the degustation one with a fixed price. We thought there was "a la carte" menu. We ordered meat and fish. Both were Ok, but we expected more for the price we paid. Deserts were very nice. Service was good. Ambience was good, but a bit noisy.

I haven't been here in many, many years, and know that this outstanding restaurant with incomparable view suffered complete loss in super storm Sandy, and was closed for 15 months! This is a first class restaurant in the Continental (French) manner with an extensive menu, and very fine wine list. I was alone and enjoyed a half bottle of excellent Chateau nuf de Pape. Of course one begins with an ambose bouche, and I even had a second one between the appetizer and my main course. My appetizer of tuna tartare was nicely mixed for me and was excellent. The second ambois bouche was a lovely oyster wrapped in smoked salmon that was superb. The black sea bass (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!) was very good and my desert was yummy

My connection goes back to when Charlie Palmer, who later created Aureole and other notable venues, was one of the chefs. Over the years it has been a place for special occasions and delightfully romantic evenings. The reconstruction looks flawless to me, nothing struck me as different from the way I remembered it, which makes it as special as it always has been.

My wife and I went for the first time to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary and it was a great spot for it. We did dinner. Make the reservation for 7-730ish because there was a sun glare off the water at 6-630ish. However if you had sunglasses it was still great. Views unreal. Service impeccable. Food delicious. Shrimp, rabbit, duck and steak all top notch. Never rushed. We had a romantic 2 hour dinner. Then we walked along the water for beautiful nighttime view of the nyc skyline. Nothing bad to say about our River Cafe experience.

I'd wanted to dine at The River Cafe for years. I decided to just make it happen, with an Open Table reservation. From the moment we arrived, I was excited to finally be there. The hostess warmly welcomed my party; that made us smile. I confess I was a bit anxious. While not getting my hopes up, I really desired a window table. That seating cannot be guaranteed. When the Maitre d' escorted us to our table, I smiled broadly. We were seated at a window! The Manhattan views were amazing! The flow of water vessels on the East River filled me with calm & wonder. The wait staff were attentive & knowledgeable. The food, especially the Brooklyn Bridge shaped chocolate dessert, was tasty & nicely presented! It was a grand dining experience!

The restaurant is beautiful, views are outstanding and the service was excellent. However, the restaurant was unbearably hot. We (including the tables surrounding us AND the waitstaff) were all sweating and we had to ask multiple times for the air to be turned up (or even on). The gentleman next to us took his jacket off because it was so uncomfortable and was scolded by the maitre'd. That's not fair when it's incredibly hot and not the customers' fault. It's a special place, but disappointing to have the experience soured by feeling so uncomfortable- especially with the prices being charged.

Three years ago I went and had the tasting menu; everything was fantastic. It was disappointingly different this time. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We waited long before we got the menu and water. Food (pre-fix menu) was just mediocre. Steak was a little over cooked and duck breast was tasteless. I left a message when I made the reservation weeks ago, saying we'd have a birthday boy, because I know they would write/place something on the dessert if it's a special occasion. Yet, our waiter said happy birthday to me, placed a chocolate chip saying happy birthday on my dessert and hand the bill to my boyfriend... why would I bother to leave that message?

Just one complaint about this outstanding restaurant: We were seated and cooled our heels for too many minutes before we were served in any fashion. And so many servers and "suits" wondering around. Inexcusable, but we got over it because the ambience and food were so remarkable. Probably didn't help that we had been in a car for an hour coming from E69th st. breakdown on the bridge.

The view is spectacular all though the overall experience felt like I was going to my grandma's country club. The food was just ok. It's was expensive. The dress code was annoying, and stricter then really high end restaurants, like le bernardin. I've had countless better meals in Brooklyn for that price or less. Waitstaff was attentive. If you like eating at country club's, you will like the River Cafe.

This place was crowed. The chairs were uncomfortable as they were made with rattan. Ladies, if you wear dresses or skirts, be prepare to have marks on your thights. The maître'd by passed us (of four) and gave preferential treatment behind us so we had to stand on the side and waited for him to take a couple to their table and chatted with them for a long time before he took us to our table.

I read so much good stuff in the other reviews, so I was disappointed, when I was there. The waiter seemed so annoyed about all the birthdays und anniverseries. The sommelier was worse. It seemed like he did not want People to drink his wine, because they are all not good enough. After all the Restaurant we visited during Restaurant Week the River Café was the One with the worst Service. They did not go the extra mile for the Customer.
