  • "Delightful meal overlooking view of downtown Chicago - south shoreline of Lake Michigan; lobster-corn bisque and Cioppino especially flavorful!"

  • "Arrived early for our reservation and they were more than helpful in getting us a table. Had the Atlantic Char which was cooked to perfection and also they did a wonderful job on the sauteed vegetables. I would have liked to have seen 2 crab cakes with the crab cake appetizer, but they outdid themselves on the HUGE chocolate cake. Great experience"

  • "We had an excellent meal before the play. The menu features a variety of options, but seafood is the star. Everything in my seafood salad was perfectly cooked and not so much as to induce sleepiness before the play. While everything was good, it is priced on the high side. If you look carefully you can still find a reasonably priced meal, but it is easy to spend here. Service is very good."

  • "I dined in this restaurant many times. Always great service, great seafood, great view. Even if the restaurant is almost always full, the service is outstanding . It is great for lunch also, when the restaurant is not as crowded as at the dinner time. And.....you get 20% discount if you attend the Shakespeare Theatre play before of after."

  • "Been going here for years. They started professional but a bit soulless. The cooking has got noticeably better in recent years. In a tourist trap location but definitely worthwhile. Skilled at pacing a meal to a theater performance."

  • "It is very convenient for the Shakespeare Theater. Gorgeous water views. Food was very good. Waiter was not as good. I asked him how the pasta entrée was and he shrugged and said just "okay" I said that it sounded so good and he said he just doesn't like it. I ordered it and it was delicious. Luckily I didn't listen to him. He was giving his own preferences instead of the general quality. I don't like that. The 20% discount is nice for the Shakespeare Theater."

  • "I'm a vegetarian, and was interested in trying several veggies that were featured as side dishes. So I asked the waiter if they could put together a vegetarian plate for me, and he asked me which ones I was interested in. I told him, and then he brought back a huge, huge plate with full orders of each of four items making for a triple entree! Now, most restaurants are willing to pull together a regular-sized entree plate made up of a partial order of each of their veggie options, which makes for an attractive, reasonably-sized entree. But this was really ugly and unappealing, and I could eat just a small part of it all. Please consider adding a different choice for those of us who are vegetarian."

  • "we looked forward to this dinner when we were in Chicago, we were there a year ago and it was much better. my shrimp were bland and my wife had king crab legs and they to were just so so . we will choose a new seafood spot next time we are in town."

  • "Many a lucky time we get to eat at Riva before or after Shakespeare and it is always as good as the performances we see and they are wonderful. Such a good combination of food and entertainment. Both rich in spirit and delivery."

  • "We've been going to Riva for many years, not often, but as something special. The fish has always been excellent. Not so now. The starters - Wianno oysters for my wife, tuna sashimi for me - were fine, up to standards. However, her arctic char was overdone, so much so that she left most of it on her plate. I had ... sea bass, I think it was, although it could have been some other fish. We were disappointed. We will give it another try, but not soon."

  • "We had a delightful dinner while admiring the view of the lake and the city. Our server asked if we were going on to see a play at the Shakespeare Theatre and made sure that we were taken care of promptly. The food was delicious and we will certainly return again and again!"

  • "...which is not say that the food is not good. To the contrary it is good as is the service. It is good which means average, There is better seafood to be had in Chicagoland, and probably at a lesser price point. However if you want a view with your seafood, then Riva is the place to go."

  • "Reva's is a first rate restaurants in all respects. The seafood, in particular, is wonderful. The service is professional and the wine list is excellent. The views of Lake Michigan and the boats at the pier are sensational. We enjoy the restaurant for family occasions but also for showing our visitors the beauty of Chicago in a wonderful setting with fine food and drink."

  • "The food as always was excellent and the service very good. Loved the scenic view very romantic. This was the first time my date had ever been to your restaurant and she was very impressed. I have eaten dinner and lunch there several times before. Knowing your quality and service is why I took my date there. She loved the views the food and the décor!!! We will be back. One more thing you service staff was very knowledgeable and gave very good service."

  • "Perfect respite from the exhibitions. you can always rely on a delicious meal here. Attentive service. My dirty martini was too dirty for my taste so the server had it fixed. I was able to substitute the zucchini and squash that accompanied my dish also. The chef made an appropriate substitution that enhanced the flavors of the yummy crab ravioli."

  • "I have been dining in this restaurant everlasting time and I always get a great food, excellent service and if I am lucky, great view. The restaurant is very busy more so on weekends than during the weekdays. If you would like a quiet, no rush, relaxing meal, go for lunch. The food is good, service is great, there is no rush, you can sit there a relax as long as you like and you don't even have to consume many drinks, which is not common in other restaurants. Saturdays and Sundays tend to be busy. There is the Shakespeare Theatre performance and many activities at Navy Pier, which brings a lot of people for dinner. The restaurant also offers special deal to theatre goers . Even when they busy, you will get great meal and service."

  • "Appetizers to share were fantastic - fresh oysters and crab cakes were fantastic. Three different fish selections were chosen and one filet. All were prepared superbly. Add in a great wine pairing for a fantastic evening in a location with a unbeatable view of the water and the Chicago skyline."

  • "Riva was the perfect choice for dinner before a performance at the Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier. Although we had a reservation and we were at first concerned by the long line of diners ahead of us awaiting tables, the theater crowd seating was handled very efficiently and we were given a table at a window on time and with a scenic view. The menu was extensive and the meals were delicious - three of us had the striped bass served with seasonal vegetables, and it was all deliciously prepared. The staff was friendly and efficient and ensured that we completed our meal un-rushed and in time for the performance. Another plus is that Riva's valet parking service allowed us to park until the end of the performance."

  • "We had 22 people in our group at three reserved tables. 6:00 on a Saturday night. After a 3:00 matinee at the Shakespeare Theater just down the pier. The place was jammed. Others I'm sure were there for a pre-theater dinner prior to an 8:00 show. But our tables were ready, I was able to shout down the stairs over the heads of others waiting, to announce "My group--please come up--our tables are ready." No problem. Despite the frenetic busyness, they were very good at handling it. Waiters were fast, efficient, and accurate. And the food was amazing. Especially for such a large place on such a busy night. Sensational flavors, new ideas for coconut and shrimp and springrolls. Nobody in our group had any criticism."

  • "My wife and I have been here several times for pre-theatre dining and the food has been ok. The only reason we dine here is because it's convenient and we don't want to have to walk the full length of Navy Pier to get from one of the mediocre restaurants on the east end of the pier to get to the Shakespeare."

  • "We went to the Chicago Shakespeare matinée and went directly to our reservation at Riva arriving at 5PM. Our window table had a lovely view of people enjoying Navy Pier. Our crab cake was wonderful, the fried calamari while tasty, was not as tender as usual. The scallops fettuccine was delightful, and we gladly shared the 3 large scallops. Very nice wine."

  • "As usual OUTSTANDING from first reception to final departure. We have dined her a number of times with the same results. Wait staff very attentive. No rush and no long waits. Of course the entrees were exceptional especially the Chilean Sea Bass. Had a wonderful cheese platter for desert. Will definitely be back many more times."

  • "Seems to be going downhill. once one of our favorites, but menu has changed...place seems less special. Convenient for a night at the theater, but wouldn't go back otherwise."

  • "These guys really know how to handle a pre-show meal. Thanks to our waiter and the staff for getting us in with the full dinner with wine and dessert."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "My daughter and I really enjoyed the food and service and were able to easily make it to the theater on time. It was as easy to have a light meal as a full one and the choices were difficult to narrow down."

  • "We have dined here several times and the food is always great. It is nice to have a table by the window to overlook the lake. Great for seafood, but the pork & steak are also very good."

  • "Great place to go with wonderful food! Awesome walk downtown and Navy Pier with a great ending to our night at the Riva!! Already recommended to others!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The scenic view is, unfortunately, the only reason for eating here. The view and the only viable place to eat prior to a production at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Being treated as if you're a tourist (which I realize makes up a large number of their diners) is quite disconcerting for a lifelong Chicagoan. And the food is mediocre, at best. The prices reflect the fact they are catering to people who are visitors on an expense account. It's too bad, because a great restaurant in that space would be wonderful. But as long as people flock to Riva for the locale, it's not going to change."
