Although we have heard rave reviews about Ristra for years, we finally decided to visit for a very special occasion. The wine list and full bar were quite impressive, but the dining rooms seemed stark.....all white with a scattering of contemporary paintings on some of the walls. Our server, Jose, was delightful and attentive. We ordered two special appetizers: Fois gras with grilled peaches and stuffed squash blossoms....both were incredibly delicious. It is quite rare to find fois gras on any menu, but even more uncommon is find Elk Tenderloin as an entree. The elk was creatively prepared and beautifully presented. The spicy duck breast was a real treat too. WE WILL GO BACK!!

Great as always. Do not forget to ask for the bar menu. There were 4 of us and we ordered from price fixed, bar and the regular menu. Something for everyone. The full bar is a benefit some other neighborhood spots do not have.

Five of us thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambiance of Ristra. We first sat inside, but moved to a wonderful outdoor table which was round and better suited our size group. Street noise was a bit more than desired, but the setting more than made up for it. We had to ask for the Bar menu which offered several varied options at a much lower price. We all ordered from that - muscles, fish and chips, duck confi - even a hamburger. All were great and this is definitely the option to take. But it was not offered without the request. We will return. Great place.

As a special dinner for my 70th birthday we selected Ristra based on reviews in Open Table and other sources. At $30-$50 per entree a diner should expect a flawless experience. No so with Ristra. From minor details like having to grab napkins from an adjoining table and having to ask for steak knives that should have come with the entree to major items like my wife's salmon being so undercooked as to not be edible to a side of wild rice that tasted suspiciously like Uncle Ben's, Ristra comes up short. My appetizer and entree were OK but by then the evening was ruined. As a final insult an offer of a complimentary dessert was not reflected in the bill. In the end we just wanted the sorry experience to come to an end. Memorable indeed.

The food was outstanding from beginning to end. Everything else was disastrous. One waiter, Richard, was doing his best but appeared to be the only waiter working. Food was being served by the busboy. Our table was cleared of everything before the entrees were served. We had no silverware and it took a while to get it while the food sat. We wanted to get a second glass of wine and that took about 15 minutes. It was clearly out of control and disorganized. It's unfortunate that the service level ruins a place where the food is exceptional.

Ristra is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. It's fine dining in a comfortable and welcoming environment at reasonable prices. The staff is always amiable, invisible when you want them to be, right there when you need them. It's probably my favorite date restaurant.

Despite the daily specials - and still listed - this was the 2nd year in a row that the squash blossoms eluded us. Take them off the menu if you can't serve them. Otherwise the meal was fine, as expected. Very helpful staff and lovely outdoor dining experience

Service was attentive but the waiter brought me a ginger ale instead of ordered gin and tonic. The pears in the grilled pear salad were delicious but the overall salad was bland - a different cheese perhaps? The duck breast was a bit too salty tho the potato spinach dish was great. My husband did not think his halibut was as fresh as it might be - "just a day off". It was my birthday and the staff knew it but there was no complimentary dessert although this is an expensive restaurant. We were the only customers there at an early dining time. The outdoor ambience was very nice but there were weeds in the garden. All in all, I can't give it the "excellent" rating I was hoping for. I am afraid I can't recommend it to discerning friends.

  • Disappointing group dinner
    Reviewer
    Dined on 6/9/2014
Had a large group (8) dinner on a Monday evening. The kitchen was able to accommodate a guest who doesn't eat peppers, spicy or sweet, and our waiter was kind enough to review the options with our guest. Aside from that, service was slow and forgettable. Asked for a birthday candle on dessert for birthday guest: nothing. Had a note on our reservation that we had a birthday guest: nothing. Food was acceptable, but not really worth the price. Pork "rack" was a pork chop that was overcooked -- thank goodness for the sauce or it would have not been palatable. The stuffed chicken breast was also overcooked and borderline bouncy.

This was our second trip to this restaurant. Both times we have had great service, great food and a nice relaxing evening. The recommended wines were good. the first time we ate outdoors and the atmosphere was wonderful. The second time we ate indoors and could hear the entire conversation of a group in our room. It provided some comedy but we preferred the quiet and wonderful vines of the outdoor dining.

We had five people who chose a total of two entrees and four appetizers, and all of the dishes were excellent. Those of us who had seafood were pleased (especially given the distance from the ocean), as were the two vegetarians. Our server seemed to be brand new so not knowledgeable about wines but the service otherwise was great. We were seated at a round table so conversation was facilitated, and we were overall very pleased.

We have enjoyed this restaurant on many occasions but soured this time when the Crispy King Salmon had the pale pink look and lesser taste of Atlantic Salmon (still quite good) rather than the red-orange tinge and robust flavor known for King Salmon, and the crispy skin was not right. Was it a poor market pick by the chef, a poor presentation, or a substitution? Our pork chop while flavorful, was not as tender and moist as in the past as well. Maybe an off night for the kitchen? Insult to injury came when the bill had surcharges added on as separate line items for two featured cocktails adding to the advertised price. We were told the cocktails required premium liquor and the charges reflected that. We didn't request premium liquor!

The excellent menu for Restaurant Week brought us in. We were especially looking forward to the mussels appetizer. We were very lucky to get the last two servings. The mint, chipotle and cream was a perfect sauce and after enjoying the mussels we sopped up every drop with our bread. My lamb shank was melt in the mouth tender and I took half my meal home the serving was so large. For dessert my husband and I halfered the truffle-like chocolate dessert and the rhubarb- and strawberry- filled crepe. Both were a delicious way to end a great meal.

Six of us dined at Ristra on a Saturday night. The food was very good, but the service was abysmal. We got there at six and left at 8:40. Our waiter was not apologetic at all about his service but was rather surly instead, though he did seem overwhelmed with too many tables.

We had 7:30 reservations on a Friday night during Restaurant Week so it was bound to be busy but they did not seem to be prepared. We did not get seated until almost 8. Fortunately there was room at the bar to pass the time and the bartender was a nice entertaining guy. Our meals were very good (the duck was excellent) but by the time we finished it had taken 2 hours and the waitress seemed in no hurry to bring the check or pick it up. We will probably try Ristra again but if the service is the same it will be the last time. There are many other options in Santa Fe.

Located in a house turned into a restaurant, the bar of Ristra is new and modern while the dining is in the older part which adds a certain charm while also feeling a bit cramped. We've been to Ristra half a dozen times and the menu stays basically the same. My husband loves the lamb shank and it never fails to be perfect. I've had varying dishes from their salmon to duck breast - all of which have been delicious if not stellar. But my favorite dish is their prawn flautas with a side of citrus salad and a basil aioli dipping sauce. This past visit, the flautas were a bit too salty but as always, delicious, crispy treats with the basil sauce. The rhubarb/strawberry crepe dessert was, as always, divine!

We decided to try Ristra during Restaurant Week. We were not disappointed. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation but were seated immediately by very friendly staff. After selecting a nice bottle of a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon we we started of with the tiger prawn appetizer which went extremely well with the basil dipping sauce. Our entrees of the lamb shank and the confit duck were delicious and paired well with the wine selection. We would highly recommend the bread pudding dessert.

We picked this restaurant from over 20 restaurants offered during restaurant week. I had the Shrimp flautas and my husband had the Butternut squash soup. There was a plastic strip in his soup, and my shrimp was not washed. it still had the black strip down the outer side. The only nice part of the restaurant is the bar area, it looks remodeled. The dining area has old carpet, the tables are very close to each other, its almost like you are dining with the couple next to you. I'm very disappointed in the food, and the atmosphere. I was really looking forward to a great dining experience. Regards, DISAPPOINTED
