Diner Reviews
  • "As with all Michael White restaurants Probably a bit over- priced but great!"

  • "I always loved Osteria Morini in Soho. And now I love Ristorante Morini. Had a great bottle of La Grein Sudtirol. I started with the asparagus salad which was delicious and refreshing. Then I had the delectable duck agnolotti. It was absolutely amazing. Rich, creamy, flavorful. I also tasted my husband's pappardelle. Fantastic dish. You could actually taste the red wine in the sauce yet there was a lightness to it. For dessert we shared the chocolate torte with apricot sorbet. Beautiful dessert. We cannot wait to go back and bring others. "

  • "Food was overall fine nothing was terrible, but nothing that was amazing and worth the prices. There are plenty of better Italian options in the UES that are more neighborhood gems and less expensive. There was nothing memorable and I even remember thinking how boring my dish was where the description sounded amazing. I hope they can improve."

  • "I live close to Morini and decided to try it on my birthday. Our table of five was seated right next to the kitchen. The service was slow and inattentive, and we had to summon a waiter several times throughout the dinner. My sister and I shared an appetizer of calamari, which was delicious. I had the arctic char, which was average, and my sister had the swordfish, which she said was salty. My husband had the branzino, which he liked. This is a very pricey restaurant, and we expected a much better experience at that price point."

  • "I have dined several times at Morini both for lunch and for dinner and have never been disappointed. I have taken clients there for lunch as well. Some of the tables have a lot of space between them which makes for easy private talking."

  • "Michael White is brilliant, and 3 of his restaurants (Marea, Ai Fiori and the sadly departed Alto) are or were among my NYC favorites -- but last night's dinner at Morini was a disaster. Main courses did not arrive until nearly an hour after first course was cleared, and 15 minutes after we were told that the mains were being "plated". Even then, my wife's swordfish arrived badly undercooked (a bad idea with swordfish unless the guest has requested it in writing!). By then, we had been there so long that she just gave up and didn't have dinner. My food (tagliatelli with mushrooms and veal chop) was quite good, and they didn't charge us for the inedible fish, but given the service meltdown, the overall experience was comically bad."

  • "We live in the neighborhood we were anxious to try Morini, and finally got a reservation. They did a pretty good, not great, job with the space, very contempory chic. Every one was very attentive. We wanted a glass of wine, but unfortunately, you need to be a connisour to deal with the wine list or left to feel inadequate. Red wines by the glass range in price from $12 to $87, bottles mostly $100-$500. Food, service and overall were very good, but really pretty expensive and a bit over the top on attitude. There are now 4 very good Italian restaurants on Madison between 84th and 92nd. The other 3 are not as contempory chic, but food is every bit as good. Morini's is trying to set itself apart from the others ... With higher prices."

  • "Food was innovative, very good presentation and delicious. Prices seemed a little high for that part of town. We would go back but not as a regular but for a special occasion"

  • "We went with friends and all of us felt the food was very good, but it was too noisy. It is extremely expensive and the noise level was not what we expected or wanted to pay for. We will not go back becasue of the noise, even though the food was very good. It is nice to have such a good restaurant in the neighborhood, although it is not a neighborhood restaurant becasue of the prices...."

  • "A beautiful new redo in a classic location. Food was nicely prepared and presented. Service was attentive. Everything is ala carte and when we walked out it was over 200 per man all in. Just be prepared."

  • "My four stars reflect the poor organization skills of the coat room, but the staff in general was very accommodating to our needs, especially with regard to the noise level as one in our party had a concussion. We couldn't have been happier! They could use some more vegetarian options, though..."

  • "Family consisting of 2 eight year old children and 4 adults, went for 12 noon lunch/brunch. Service was not as top notch as past 3 dining experiences. We had to ask a few times for ice tea, bread. diners seated after us were getting meals, a little difficult with hungry children. We love this restaurant and were a little surprised, perhaps they weren't ready for the crowd"

  • "The food is outstanding but the prices are really too high compared with other high level restaurants in NY and the area. The service is a bit intrusive and actually loud; interrupting conversation simply to announce the arrival of dishes. Also, unless specifically asked the server's favorite dishes are not always welcome tips. Side bar, pardon the pun, the wine pours are exceedingly small. Three sips in a wine glass is really short."

  • "Had lunch. $39 for two courses Seafood antipasto was great. The steak main, a $7 sup, was marred by overpowering balsamic vinegar."

  • "I have been to this restaurant perhaps 5 times since it has opened. My experience has been very inconsistent. The food has gone from great to very poor and tasteless. This in=consistency is very disappointing. Service has also been inconsistent. The last time I was there they didn't offer salt and pepper, I had to ask for bread after my appetizer appeared. The other par of the bad experience was my appetizer showed up within one minute of giving my order. Made it seem like it was pre made. Then I waited far to long to get my main course. Timing and service was terrible."

  • "From the delectable red shrimp to the outrageous carbonara to the perfectly medium rare steak and gorgeous roasted chicken right on to the wonderful ending of sorbet to & gelato, our meal was wonderful and all accompanied by great service and a knowledgeable, personable & fun sommelier! Chef White and his team have done it again! Bravo"

  • "The maitre'd should be replaced immediately. They are new in the neighborhood but if they treat the "neighborhood group" the way we were treated the two times we went, they will find out, their local crowd will disappear. They are trying to get two seatings per night without broadcasting that and thus service was rushed also. Some dishes were excellent and some very poor so have to be selective with choice. I do not plan to go back as too many other wonderful places to eat in the Upper East Side where food and service are so much better."

  • "I have never in my life written a review of a restaurant on OpenTable but I must.Service was Terrible. My fourth visit to this restaurant and my last. Even with a reservation you are made to wait 30 to 45 minutes and told tables are on a first-come first-served basis. I don't like to complain and I never do however after dinner this time I did speak to the manager who was clearly not interested. We had to ask for everything at least two or three times. All in all not a great restaurant experience I will not go back."

  • "Wonderful new restaurant , interesting menu, superb attentive service, beautiful decor and attention to detail that creates an atmosphere conducive to fine dining. Like one of the great restaurants of old!"

  • "The Alta Marea Group and Chef Michael White have succeeded in yet another wonderful restaurant. Our reservation was for a Sunday evening to celebrate my wife's birthday with our daughters. We were greeted warmly by the host and were escorted by elevator to the inviting second floor dining room. Our server was pleasant and knowlegible offering assistance when needed. The sommelier recommended a fine Sicilian wine from a selection of many regions. Our shared pastas were perfection. My wife had the rack of lamb and my daughters and I had the char, both dishes executed beautifully. The pignoli tart and chocolate semifreddo desserts were scrumptious. The high cost may not be for everyone, but Morini is worth a visit for a special evening."

  • "Dinner at Morini was fantastic. This beautiful upscale upper East side gem is a winner. The décor is beautiful. The crudo's are fantastic and is what this restaurant group is known for. The scallop crudo was delicate and delicious. The calamari and burrata was delicious yet an odd combination for an Italian restaurant. You would never see seafood and cheese combined in Italy. This is a no no. The penne with the Bolagnese sauce was outstanding. Perfectly cooked and very tasty. Our only complaint were the prices of wines by the glass They ranged from about $24-60.We tried a few and were not impressed with the selection or the outlandish prices. The pear crostada was delicate and delicious. We now have a new favourite place to dine in New York."

  • "First time here since the space evolved from Centolire. Definitely an upgrade. The sardines and the risotto were beautifully prepared and not overfilling. The flavors of the sorbets - especially the lemon basil - were intense. And the wine selection - including by the glass - was excellent - although the pourers were less than generous. Would we return? Absolutely!"

  • "The food was very good at this new restaurant, but the prices almost made me lose my appetite. I thought it was way overpriced and therefore will not be likely to return soon which is too bad because it is very conveniently located for me."

  • "We love Ai Fiori and Marea. Moroni another win, food just as good. Atmosphere a little more casual for the prices, but will become a regular. No service issues or wait as others expressed, especially for a nice Saturday night prime time."

  • "everything very nice, service, food etc. totally overpriced small portions. But busy so wish them luck. so many restaurants have failed at this location."

  • "Despite arriving on time for dinner we were seated in the bar area and were told we would have to wait if we wanted to be seated upstairs in the main dinning. The maître d. was erudite in insisting they reserved the right to seat us in either place. The bar area was so small that waitstaff repeatedly bumped into my chair. One should not pay these price for an uncomfortable dining experience. I am wondering if I would get better service if I made the reservation directly rather than through Open Table. My duck breast was superb but wife's cod fish overlooked."

  • "We have eaten in Bernardsville so we knew we would have a great meal, but this was better than we anticipated! 6 of us were completely happy. Loved upstairs, but would love to try out the bar area!"

  • "i specifically asked for a certain section of the room when we arrived there was no apology and we were taken to the worse table in another room right next to the kitchen door. i refused it and all of a sudden two other decent tables were available. not a pleasant way to start to the evening. the food was fine but there was a general off-putting air about the place. i doubt any in our group will return"

  • "I booked online as I was going to be in NYC and took two friends there for dinner. Service was fast and efficient. Wait staff were also very aware- knew when to be available and when to stay away. Helpful with the menu too. I ordered the wine but the tasting was offered to the lone male at our table. We decided to go with the four course menu and enjoyed every course. We all ordered different items off the menut - soup, seafood for starters and for mains - chicken, duck and seafood. Dessert was also delicious although we were pretty full by this point. I would definitely go back again. Nice ambiance too. The only thing -- the floors in the restaurant were very slippery - not sure if it was the cleaner used??"

  • "in spite of having reservations we were not seated in the main dining room but downstairs in the bar area. While it is the same kitchen the bar area is more of a scene and more crowded so you have to be in the mood for that. The food and wine were good overall but expensive for what it was. Given the neighborhood though thats probably to be expected."

  • "Hard to get a resie so booked 3 wks in advance. We arrived early and then they had us wait at bar 25min past our resie time. Food was interesting, the gnocchi was wonderful..food a bit pricey for what it was. Waiter had NO personality which was a bummer. The decor a bit bland. Nice looking crowd..and it was crowded."

  • "The service could not have been better and the food was excellent, especially the appetizers . Earlier reviews on line had mentioned the sparse portions; perhaps they had changed their approach because the portions could not have been more generous."

  • "With the opening of Ristorante Morini, the neighborhood finally has a dining destination about which to be proud. The food, service, excellent wine list, and civilized atmosphere are sure to win a loyal following from the well-heeled residents of this zip code, who can afford the steep prices. The pastas live up to the high standard Michael White has set at his other restaurants like Marea and Morini downtown. Even desserts were up to the standards of the rest of the meal -- not always the case. Bravissimo, Chef White! You have done it again!"
