Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic meals that were full of flavor. Not just a smear on a plate...real portions. Would defiantly recommend. Sadly passing through NYC."

  • "Came for restaurant week - food was very good - very pleasant experience Very accomodating"

  • "While we want to love this place there's something that holds us back. It's not outright formal but we can't seem to understand its identity. Definitely not geared to families - which is weird for this neighborhood that could use another lunch & dinner spot that's comfortable for everyone. While they're not unfriendly towards children, there's not a lot that would jump out to children or teens on the menu. Plus, the prices are more midtown expense account than "let's go out for dinner with the family." The first floor bar area is lively & stylishly decorated and I'd be much more likely to go there than upstairs and I cannot figure out why since the upstairs is lovely but again reminds me of a high end tourist or business place."

  • "Food was outstanding and beautifully priced because of Restaurant Week...my only complaint was the frigid air conditioning which the staff was unable or unwilling to turn off."

  • "A little to heavy on the AC but they did supply a pashmina I would have preferred they lowered the AC . The service was amazing and the food excellent even for a native Italian Will return"

  • "My mother was visiting, and we were visiting the Met (only a few blocks away), and I had enjoyed dinner at Ristorante Morini, AND I like all of Michael White's restaurants in general, so it seemed like the thing to do for lunch. It was great! Elegantly but efficiently served. A real value. The menu was extremely well-chosen and showed off the strengths of the restaurant. We had the shrimp pasta and the sage chicken, and I would not hesitate to recommend either, although the pasta, as is to be expected in a Chef White spot, was the real star. Lots of MMMMs. The desserts, so often an afterthought for Restaurant Week, were fab, especially the chocolate olive oil cake."

  • "My 4th visit here and the least satisfying. Food continues to be very good but the service was so slow. The restaurant was not busy but our waitress had great difficulty finding time to take our order follow-up on requests etc. She was very pleasant just didn't provide good service. We had to flag down a busboy to get pepper when our appetizers were served. salt and pepper grinders were brought to the table but cleared away with the appetizer plates. When the entrées appeared, again we had to flag down someone to get salt and pepper. My first three experiences here were much better; hope my experience this time was an anomaly."

  • "On a cool July evening, AC was a full blast. Waiter tried to help but the temp went from comfortable back to freezing every few minutes. Unimpressed with the food. Restaurant may be too big to turn out really great food, and it should be great at this price. Had to wait 15+ minutes for the check on a quiet night. Wife left to get outside to warm up."

  • "Ristorante Morini continues to be a delightful upgrade from the former Centlire . . pricey, but worth it."

  • "If all you want is great food, perfect ambiance and impeccable service you've come to the right place. From drinks through dessert everything was perfect. The pastas are fabulous. the fish fabulous. I had the swordfish which can often be dry & overcooked, this was delicious. My husband and son shared the steak, not a piece went uneaten. And dessert was not only beautifully plated but a wonderful end to our evening."

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant in every important way. The pasta and fresh fish were terrific. Our server, Caitlin, gave us excellent advice without pushing any particular choices."

  • "If wanting top of the line sophistication in Italian food this is the place to go, or any of the Marea groups. Relaxed atmosphere and rich surroundings make the dinner an experience and an enjoyment. Service is fantastic, felt like royalty."

  • "Don't know why restauranters need to escort you into an empty restaurant and seat you at the worst table in the place. But Morini did it. So, then you have to say, "no, I would rather sit in one of the many empty nicer tables please...." Why start a relationship with a customer this way? Then the fact that this neighborhood restaurant charges way too much, bothers you even more. And the fact that the chef doesn't cook the food to the desired and specifically requested temperature bothers you more. And so you say to yourself, I'm not going back there."

  • "The food was good, not spectacular ... and certainly not worth the hefty price. The crudo - sardines were excellent; the snails, non descript but the soft shell crab was very good. Pasta, their usual strength, was mixed at best and the main courses were just good but nothing special. Service was excellent"

  • "I never appreciate being served out of order from being seated. The table to our right was served before we were even though we were seated before they were. They were brought bread. We were ignored. The service was terrible because the staff:client ratio is suboptimal. The noise was intolerable. Even though we asked for a quiet table, the table was terrible noisy. And what's funny is the room was filled with many seniors. I have no idea how they heard each other. My pasta dish had two different sizes of pasta and no cheese. Clearly the clientele on the UES do not demand great italian food. And because of that gap, I will not demand a seat in future. SKIP IT."

  • "Warm and friendly from front reception desk through dessert. Check was hefty but at least you feel you're getting quality."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Food was great, but very expensive for the value and tables are close so perhaps the staff should remind other diners to be considerate of their neighbor and not scream at each other."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "If it weren't so expensive, I would go there often. On the other hand, the ingredients are beautiful and the preparations are perfect. This is a great place to go when somebody else is paying!"
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "The food seems good and if that's all you care about then this is a fairly good choice. Think of this place as a brasserie. Inept service and lunchroom atmosphere. Three separate times the wait staff reached over the full plate of food to retrieve silverware or serve bread or fill water. When you put your fork down while others are eating , the plate is wisked away as if they are short of plates and need it back. Tables are crammed in and the room is nothing special. This is not a place for anything except a good meal (hat's off to the kitchen) poorly served in a mediocre decor. I am not sure I would bother to return since for these prices you can do much better elsewhere."

  • "It isn't just the ambiance, the perfect service, IT'S THE FOOD. Perfection. A total taste treat. The asparagus soup sent me to Nirvana! The sea bass perfection. The side of just plain fruit I requested the best…..and the 'naughtiness' of the dessert, sublime."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Everything was good and to our satisfaction; the service, the appetizers, the main courses and the wine. Maybe a little on the expensive side. We'll return"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Service is great, food is mediocre and below. Pasta over cooked, salad not clean enough (sand in lettuce). Best part the desserts. Overall not a good value as food is very expensive and not great."

  • "Way overpriced . Food uninspired. Good service and attractive room ."

  • "Overall we enjoyed the evening. The food was good but not spectacular. The prix fixe option is a good value. I did not like the soft shell crab appetizer. I have had much better soft shells. The veal chop was excellent and one guest said the sea bass was outstanding. Deserts were the highlight of the meal."

  • "Very pleasant meal . . an overly talkative table of 4 next to us splitting every dish !! Food is very good on a nicely limited menu. Wine list is pricey, but worth it. Interesting specialty cocktails. . . nice to have a nearby upscale restaurant."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The food here is excellent, the service very good but you have to be willing to put up with the way the sounds bounce off the windows, mirrors, wood floors, etc. Portions are small and prices are very high, but if price is no object, this is a great choice on the upper East side. We all had delicious salads, including one with what my husband said was the best soft shell crab he'd had all season. Fish and pasta entrees were small but beautifully presented and very tasty."

  • "Food is delicious, service gracious, room decorated modern subdued and pretty. Nice for lunch brunch or neighborhood dinner. If you want special then go to Marea (his other restaurant). expensive for brunch and lunch . But his food never disappoints. "

  • "This is a very good restaurant that I would definitely recommend. We got a lunch there as two friends but it would be perfect for couples too!"

  • "A bit pricey for the portion size ie $23 for asparagus soup.....But service extremely welcoming, professional and friendly."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Food very good. Service spotty; sat for a while before anyone took drink order or talked to us. We had to ask for brought bread. Prices too high, corkage fee a high $50. Would try again, some of the food was delicious and there are few upscale alternatives in the area. Maybe they are still new and will iron out the service kinks."

  • "We had a spectacular meal from the cocktails to the wine and on to the appetizers and entrees. First course of scallops melted in your mouth as did the poached halibut. Other great dishes were the asparagus salad and calamari and burrata salad. The ravioli was fantastic and full of flavor. Can't wait to go back."

  • "First visit since Ristorante took over the space from Centolire. New decode and upgraded menu . . definitely a jump up,in class . . . and in price.. Would definitely return. Convienent to residence and good food, but pricey for a Sunday lunch (mostly due to wine)"

  • "This restaurant tries very hard, and almost makes it. Two of us ate there recently. For appetizers, the foie gras terrine was outstanding, but the asparagus soup was too dark and leaning toward, but not quite, bitter. For main dishes, the pasta bolognese was all pasta, very little bolognese. The spaghetti with seafood, however, was quite good. The deserts were elaborate, but not what you would call delicious. The service was outstanding. I should add that for me, music adds a great deal to the experience, but the music playing was a sort of nondescript jazz. Some high quality classical music, some vocals from the American songbook, several other kinds of music could have made the food taste better; this music made it taste worse."

  • "Even a simple dish like house made rigatoni with pomodoro sauce was completely satisfying. Michael White knows how to make patrons happy. There are no bargains here but you are assured of receiving superior food with professional service. "

  • "This might be the best restaurant in the city! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was so friendly. We will go back, many many times!"

  • "Ristorante Morini is a very welcome addition to the dining scene on Madison in the 80s - and the perfect place for lunch in the area. In fact, I was astonished that it wasn't packed! We had a perfect corner table with a view of Madison Avenue and thoroughly enjoyed our bellinis and salads. But the highlight was unquestionably the risotto - one of the best I've had in New York (or anywhere outside of Milan, actually!) It's filling - so the half portion is the way to go!"
