A word from Ristorante Milano
The flavors of Milano's food and the rhythm of the dining room are reminiscent of trattorias in Italy's cities, according to Gourmet Magazine. It is a charming, intimate restaurant with an Italian staff, top quality ingredients, homemade pastas, exceptional veal, polenta, risotto, and fresh seafood delivered daily, served in warm surroundings. Known as the "hidden jewel of Russian Hill" The San Francisco Chronicle calls Milano "one of the most consistent restaurants in the city".Continued

  • "The restaurant is smaller than expected, and it was packed tight. After waiting 20 minutes beyond my reservation time, I was seated at a nice table by the front window. Other patrons, not from the same dining parties, were seated together with little space for privacy or intimate conversation. If I'd been seated there, I would not have been pleased, The food was enjoyable, ravioli for me and chicken marsala for my S/O. The highlight of the meal was dessert, with a chocolate almond cake and gelato (hazelnut and vanilla). Nothing was great, but it was all very good. Prices were reasonable, and I would eat here again. The service was excellent, and it made up for the delay in seating. Again, dessert was amazing. : )"

  • "This is a small friendly restaurant. The owner and the waiters were all very friendly and helpful, but not overbearing in any way. The pasta was excellent and the clams were very fresh. All the warm dishes arrived piping hot straight from the kitchen obviously freshly cooked. We will definitely come back here for good Italian dishes."

  • "The execution at this restaurant is nearly flawless, and for the price it cannot be beat. Every dish comes out excellent, and the staff is friendly. Wonderful!"

  • "We have been coming to San Francisco for the past two years and eating sat least once every time at Milano. The greeting is warm, the food excellent and the neighborhood pleasant. If this restaurant were located where we live in Vermont, we would eat there weekly."

  • "This is a true gem! The food and the service are outstanding! The gnochi is homemade and fabulous. And the Zabaglione is the best dessert ever! A very special dinning experience!"

  • "My first time to Ristorante Milano was absolutely exquisite. Family from out of town wanted a San Francisco Italian experience, I wanted to take them somewhere off the beaten path. This neighborhood gem was perfect. From the moment we were seated, we were given excellent attention from the entire staff. Our waiter was extremely professional, attentive but gave us space to enjoy the meal. Our table shared the grilled calamari appetizer (of the day) with white beans - sheer perfection. I had one of their house specialties, gnocchi with pancetta in a red sauce, that was superb. As we departed, the manager attentively asked how our meal and evening was. It was amazing. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to friends"

  • "This restaurant was incredible. The service and food were outstanding. Definitely a place I will visit anytime I return to the San Francisco area."

  • "We dined here after about a 3 year hiatus. We were greeted by Raphael, who actually remembered us from our last visit and even recalled the table we sat at. And we recognized some of the other staff, many of whom have been with this establishment for years. Service was outstanding, friendly and attentive. Food was very good too - we ordered several different dishes including a beet salad, veal scaloppini, saltimbocca and a special seafood melange of shrimp, scallops, clams & mussels in a red sauce over polenta and all were great and plentiful. For dessert, we shared a nicely sized tiramisu and thought it was delicious. In short, a very happy return, reminding us that we need to visit this fairly small, local establishment more often."

  • "I had the pasta with fresh shellfish and the Pera Cotta al Marsala dessert. The pasta was really good. They make it themselves. The food is really beautiful. The pear would have been better with a different flavor of gelato, to compliment it. I would go back to this restaurant. It isn't too expensive either. You can also sit inside or outside."

  • "We've been here at least 6 times over the last year and every meal has been a delight. The food, staff and overall experience is the quintessential SF neighborhood Italian dining experience."

  • "The service was attentive yet not intrusive. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine selections. I had the best veal chop I have ever had and my wife enjoyed a very tasty risotto. If you are looking for a slightly hidden gem with incredible Northern Italian food, this is the place to go in San Francisco."

  • "A true gem. It was my sweetheart's birthday and we wanted something extra special. We definitely found it! Best pasta dish we have ever had anywhere! Staff was very attentive, professional and friendly. Our server Natalia made us feel like we were the most important people in the world. Definitely recommend it!"

  • "We loved Ristorante Milano! Three of us ordered different entrees and each person was delighted with the wonderful combinations. I ordered the porcini, sausage dish served over pasta for my entree; it was fabulous. the porcini taste was not overpowered by the sausage but was the perfect complement. Minimal seasoning and a bit of cream was all it took to be a total 10. My husband ordered a porcini, tomato and sausage dish which had a different base, no cream over pasta. It,too, was delicious. My son ordered a dish with three different meats of different preparation which he said was great. It did not have a pasta accompaniment. We would go back to this restaurant absolutely and will tell our friends in San Francisco to go."

  • "I thought the food was delicious the waitperson was a little too eager to take our order but I can't fault her because it's irritating when you finally decide what you would like and can't find your waitperson. It's a little tight and you are very close to other diners a little claustiphobic but overall very nice and I would return"

  • "What a great find Ristorante Milano is! Especially appreciated our waiter, Raphael's advice on the menu and the wine. I'll be back. Wish they had real bread. Instead, serve a sweet, soft yeast bread. I always like a hard italian roll with my pasta."

  • "Aldo and his team are a local neighborhood gem. Best fresh pasta (with last truffle of the season) I've had in a long time. Wine pairing was perfect. Definitely will visit Milano again!"

  • "This is the perfect neighborhood Italian restaurant. The owner, Aldo, is everpresent, supervising the whole operation and personally connecting with each patron. The food is not elegant (a la, Delfina, perhaps) but is more than consistent. I is evident that in the 25+ years that this restaurant has been open in the same location it has never rested on its laurels. Instead, it has become gradually just a little bit better, year after year after year....."

  • "Aldo the owner and his family make the best fresh pasta. Everything I have tried here is delicious. The Calamari is the best ever! This is my "go to" Italian spot when visiting San Francisco."

  • "Ristorante Milano is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in SF. The food is almost always excellent and the service is friendly. The only negative is the parking in the area."

  • "I had not been to Ristorante Milano in a while, but had very fond memories of the food and the evening. So I wanted to revisit, and left happy and satisfied. Our waiter was attentive and charming, and the linguini with white truffles were to die for! Also the Tiramisu was just perfect! I will definitely be back."

  • "I've been to Ristorante Milano multiple times, and it is always a pleasure. If you can go during white truffle season, be sure to ask if they have any truffle specials; the linguine in butter with shaved truffles is heavenly. All of the pasta dishes are solid, so it is a great destination for vegetarians. Make sure to finish your meal with the tiramisu, which is perfect: not too boozy, not too much espresso, and light as air."

  • "Service and the food was great. We were recommended a delicious wine called Priora Barbera de Alba, 2010, which is now one of my favorite wines. It went well with our food. Do not miss the calamari and white bean appetizer-WOW!!!"

  • "We booked this restaurant at 3:30 before opening, and I got a confirmation call at 4:15. The great service only got better, including a table side visit by the owner. This restaurant is removed from the touristy restaurant row of S.F., no bar, but if you want great service and freshly prepared dishes this is a place to try. The risotto is prepared fresh, unlike the pasty stuff you get at many others. The veal had great sauce and was fork cutting tender. The wines are satisfactory, quite a few Italian varietals, but don't expect a large wine cellar. A word of caution: this is a neighborhood restaurant, so on-street parking is limited, but the short walk from a nearby market parking lot is convenient."
