The selection is wide and varied. Our chocolate cake at dessert was a little dry - our only minor complaint. Everything else was fabulous. The food is rich, but so very delicious, so bring your appetites and enjoy the well paces and relaxed experience of simply enjoying food as Italian do. The service was great, wonderful recommendations, and the quality of the food was so remarkable, that I cannot think of another Italian restaurant that comes close in terms of taking a piece of Italy and transporting it to DC."

  • "We dropped in after seeing "Side Show" at the Kennedy Center and were seated at a very good table overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue. She started with Clams Casino and I the onion soup. She was delighted by her Linguini Vittorio, especially after the chef himself came out to ask how she liked it. I got the sausage with with brocoli rape and found it very tasty. Our attentive waiter, Nemanja, brough her a chocolate dessert with a sparkler after he heard her mention that she was getting a cannoli to go as part of her month-long celebration of her birthday. The house-made orange infused liquer was so tasty that she tried to buy a bottle to go, but was thwarted by the liquor-license rules. We will return after future Kennedy Center plays."

My only thoughtful comment might be on the religious display in the front - as a Catholic myself, I recognized those in the pictures - and question whether this is the best front display to put in a restaurant serving the general public. Excellent meal, Excellent service. I recommend big time!"

  • "A quick ride from The Willard - wait staff very attentive, food was super and ambience did not disappoint. My wife and one of our grown daughters and I did a long weekend and it was the perfect spot for a special/nice dining experience. Pastas were fresh and perfectly coked and my veal chop (offered off menu) was great. Absolutely recommend!"

  • "We were in DC for the weekend with my parents and went to La Perla on Saturday night. We were a bit nervous as we had lived in Italy for 5 years and have not found a good Italian restaurant yet. However that changed last Saturday. The food was excellent the service amazing. We were even given limoncello after our meal! Definitely recommend it and we will go back!"

The food was good, albiet a bit pricey. The chef came out to talk with the guests about their meals, which I found impressive. The service, overall, was outstanding."

  • "I have never had a waiter who had zero desire to provider service. Felt like we were at a Denny's restaurant not a fine restaurant which we had hoped for. Having the owner Chef come out to the table was classy and probably saved the dinner, food was ok to good but they really need to get the service staff trained, changed or both. Zero personality and with attitude, doesn't matter how good the food is, if the people serving it don't want to be there it wont matter. We asked for a table outside and was sat in great table, buss boy brought out table mats and utensils rolled out infront of me and a huge glob of tomato sauce staring back at me. I flipped the table cloth over to get a clean side and there was another one! Amazing "

  • "Having been to La Perla at least a dozen times previously as part of a large group, I am never disappointed by the quality of the food; the owner/chef, Viktor, is a genius. On this occasion in a small group, however, the service was inadequate: we had to remind the waiter to bring a salad; the wine didn't come until AFTER the main course was served. Little things. Overall, if one wants a truly exceptional meal, this is the restaurant to go to."

  • "I highly recommend La Perla for dinner before going to the Kennedy Center. The location was easy to get to, yet nice and quiet with plenty of parking. I went for my anniversary and the wait staff was super accommodating and friendly. The food was very classic Italian, and they seemed open to slight substitutions as the only thing that is pre-made is the lasagna. The décor is fairly opulent, so this is a good spot for a romantic celebration, or for anyone that likes the "old school Washington" feel. "

  • "For years I have driven by this place and it looked busy. So finally with some friends I suggested we try it. We sat down and for at least 10 minutes mine showed up other than the menus and wine list. Then the owner comes over to talk and says you're pretty to one if the two woman. Just rude!! The bread comes to the table and the Italians bread tastes like some cheap brand I'd buy at a supermarket. The waiter comes after I motion him over. The 1/2 order is taken. When the appetizer comes we give the order. The mussels were nothing special with 3 pieces of shrimp. My veal bone was bland. Our friends said there's was so so. Never waste your time and I have to say we fine a lot at a strong number of 4 & 5 rated places. "

The "artwork" on the walls (while that is personal taste -- but so is food) was distracting! To me the restaurant seemed a bit pretentious -- and they didn't have proper stemware to serve a rare Napa Cabernet that I brought from my cellar ."

My meals have generally very good but my wife's Lobster Ravioli had a bit of a chemical taste which suggests that fresh lobster is not used in preparation?   • "The restaurant is lovely.I had the mushroom risotto which was truly made to order.it would have been really good if they had used a variety of mushrooms, rather than just plain white mushrooms with very little flavor. When the waiter asked about dessert, i asked him if they could make me plain Zabaione. The waiter's response was an immediate No. I was just commenting to my companion that his answer should have been "Let me ask the chef." At that moment, out of the kitchen comes this short, gray-haired man who had to be the chef! What a sweet man. I flash my nicest smile and ask him if he could make me some plain Zabaione. His answer: "Of course." We shake hands and I thank him. Not only do I get the perfect dessert, he never charged for it."

  • "The chef and owner of restaurant comes out of the kitchen and personally welcomes his customers. Everything is made fresh daily by him. All fish are wild caught and flown in (nothing is farm raised). Everyone in our party had different appetizers and main courses so we could taste each other's meals. Everything was EXCELLENT. Apparently this restaurant seems to be a known place in DC by all VIP. The staff was also excellent and quite attentive. I would definelty return here on my next visit to DC. Quite a find!"

  • "I don't expect to go to a fancy restaurant and be overwhelmed by cooking odors and stale food smells in the furniture. It doesn't bother some people, but it does bother me. The food was not bad, but not special either. Each of us had a pasta dish and each had a heavy cream sauce on the pasta. Maybe we didn't read the menu carefully enough--perhaps the menu noted that each sauce also had cream in it. However, the sauces were just too heavy for the other ingredients. We had escargot and carpaccio appetizers. The former had a sweet, rather than garlicky taste. Not bad, but I would not have ordered it had I known. The carpaccio was just thinly sliced rare roast beef with no flavoring and a heavy pesto sauce on top. And it cost too much."

  • "Saturday was a fantastic day amidst the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC. My wife and I were visiting our Son and his girlfriend for the weekend. We had made a reservation at La Perla for 7:30pm. We arrived one hour early. La Perla staff had no problem seating us early. The food and service was excellent! After we were finished with our main course, the Chef (Victor) visited our table to make sure all was well. He was charming and engaging, we had no problem explaining how much we had enjoyed our meals. Great veal, great pasta! Wow, would I come to La Perla again, absolutely! P.S. I inadvertently left my expensive camera under the table. Shortly after we had left, I received a call from the staff. Thank You La Perla!!"

  • "Almost missed out on this one. Glad I changed my reservation. This place is top itch from top to bottom staff is good, although I think we got a new waiter, and the good is even better. The owner Chef came by our table to check on us not once but twice! Very nice man that knows how to cook. Recommended for anyone traveling to DC.   • "Our second visit here. Friends were in town and had heard about the place so wanted to try it. Overall very good. Food was excellent, I had the pheasant which was excellent. The antipasto was very good though presentation unimaginative. Lasagne, pasta and seafood dishes were also excellent. Fried calamari good size for 2 to share. The waiter was good but continued to reach in front of me all the time which is something that never happens in fine dining establishments. I though he would push me back with his arm on several occasions.The wine list was mediocre and selections of wine by the glass was awful, though I find this typical in most DC restaurants. No half bottles available. The Chianti by the glass was God awful! Recommended"
