Ristorante La Perla a wonderful place to enjoy superb Italian cuisine with friends, either for a special occasion or a casual dinner. The staff is courteous, attentive and flawless in service. The food was presented professionally and all entrees were deemed excellent. The location is also ideal, as it is an easy walk from several landmarks in the West End of Washington, DC. Be sure to visit.

Our waiter treated my friend. & I ( both women) too paternalistically, suggesting menu options without answering our questions and not thinking we needed to know the vintage of a wine before we ordered. Antipasto was light on olives & cheese in terms of sharing; main meals: veal Marsala sauce flat -- too much butter I think, and veal almost tough. Other main dish quite good. Pasta sides delicious. Dessert - odd to get a dessert menu with pictures like a this takeout place. Had charm, seated promptly and comfortable. Wouldn't rush back

I grew up in an Italian neighborhood. Ate at the famous New York Italian restaurants. Chef Testa is without a doubt the best Italian chef I've ever come come across. The food is fantastic. The pasta is home made, the meat dishes and fish are fresh and made to order. The side vegetables are always just right and the salads crisp and delicious. Chef Testa personally comes out and meets all his guests. The waiters are attentive and helpful. There is valet parking and an outdoor patio for the warmer weather. My wife and I eat there all the time and the quality has remained constant. The wine list is comprehensive.

I had been to La Perla last year on a business trip and thought the food was outstanding and the service was excellent. This time I took my wife and son there while visiting and it was just as I remembered, the food was superb and the service impeccable. Thanks, Chef Testa for a memorable night.

This was our second visit to La Perla, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant i distinguished by its very extensive Italian menu. There are other good Italian restaurants in DC, but they all have rather limited menus with the usual suspects. La Perla has great pastas, fish, and meat in varieties others don't. And the quality can't be beat.

The food at Ristorante la Perla has a very real taste. The Chef came out and checked in on our table, as well as the other tables around us, to make sure the food was to our liking. He is from Naples, Italy, and the food tasted like I was visiting him there. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to friends and I will be back again.

Best Italian food I've found in years -- authentic, scrumptious and a multitude of choices for every course. Huge lumps of fresh crab on Chefs specialty dish and tasty veal so tender and juicy you could cut it with a fork. Highlight of the night was the colorful Head Chef who entertained us for 5 precious minutes after dinner with stories about his wonderful food. Can't wait to go back!

I took two of my client's to lunch here and couldn't have been more pleased. We started with the calamari which they raved about. Two of us had the veal Marsala which is probably the best I have ever had. We were the only people in the restaurant at the time. I hope they are not in finacial difficulty.....Everyone please go eat here!

Our 15 year old wanted Italian for her birthday, so we went to La Perla on a Sunday early evening. Our starters were very good - lobster soup has a great flavor, pasta fagiol was hearty and delicious and a very nice Caesar salad. Our entrees consisted of lobster ravioli, fettuccini alfredo, veal picante and presidente lobster linguine - we each ate until we could not eat another bite. The desserts were wonderful - canola, profiterole and the Naples kiss was the best! I was surprised that no one wished her a happy birthday although I had noted the occasion in our reservation, plus we had a bag full of presents. There was a "sparkler" in her dessert which she liked.

We had an excellent experience until the very end. The food was great and the service (Farouk) was superb. We had commented what a great evening it had been. Dessert was finished, and the wine glasses nearly empty. The check came, and we promptly signed. Within 5 minutes, the maitre d' asked us to move to the bar if we wanted to visit further. We had been at the table slightly over one hour, and had not delayed any portion of the service. In fact, we were discussing whether we would call a cab or use Uber. There were no patrons waiting for a table, and there were two other tables unoccupied in the dining room. I was very offended by the maitre d' request.

Traditional, authentic Italian food that did not disappoint. The marinara sauce was particularly delicious and the staff was accommodating and attentive. Was it inventive or unique? Not really, but it was honestly so enjoyable that I look forward to my return! I had the zuppa de pesce, which I highly recommend, but they have carious simple fresh fish dishes that are good for those who are health conscious. Great for families, though a little upscale for young kids- maybe earlier in the evening would work to bring them.

La Perla has the cheesiest, over-the-top, cheap looking and fake décor, especially inside. In my experience, I do not expect to get great food from a place looking like that. La Perla is definitely the exception to that rule. Everything we ate was delicious, our cocktails were prepared perfectly, and the service was top-notch -- polite, attentive but unassuming, white waste coat and bow tie, i.e., comparable to that in the most expensive restaurants. I was quite pleasantly surprised.

The food was good, the waiter attentive and the chef visited our table. And they did a nice job of helping celebrate my wife's birthday. Food was very good but not off the charts great. Wine list is marked up heavily price-wise. Tables are close so the waiters for adjacent tables had to bump empty chairs at our table every time they passed, knocking them into our legs. An enjoyable meal, all in all.

Throughout the years I've been a patron of the restaurant, La Perla has maintained consistency in its excellence of service and culinary art. Wether you drop in for a casual lunch with a friend or special dinner occasion with a group, the attention to the customer, the level of professionalism of the staff, the exquisite quality of the food, the classy, elegant, yet warm and relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant never fails. It is always consistent. There are many famous and world-renowned restaurants in Washington, D.C., but La Perla by far is the winner bar none. For those diners with food (esp. severe) allergies, La Perla chef Victor and the staff are exemplary in their care/accomodation and genuine understanding of this concern.

I had made a reservation and noted that it was our anniversary, requesting a private table. When we arrived, the host pointed out the table he had picked for us- it was left of the front door, away from the rest of the parties dining that evening and quiet. Our waiter was fantastic, answering any questions we had and attentive if we needed something. The food was INCREDIBLE and rivaled some of the food we had in Italy the year prior. The flavors were layered, complimentary and delicious. Chef Testa came out to greet us and ask about our meals; he was cordial and genuinely interested in our feedback. At the end of the meal, we were presented with tiramisu with a sparkler in it to celebrate. It was a nice touch. We will be back often.

The food and service here are always great. The chef personally visited our table twice during the meal to be sure that we were completely satisfied with the food. In a city that really has an absence of concentrated, good Italian food, La Perla offers a nice change of pace and delicious and authentic Italian food. The food is rich, but so very delicious, so bring your appetites and enjoy the well paces and relaxed experience of simply enjoying food as Italian do. The service was great, wonderful recommendations, and the quality of the food was so remarkable, that I cannot think of another Italian restaurant that comes close in terms of taking a piece of Italy and transporting it to DC.

We dropped in after seeing "Side Show" at the Kennedy Center and were seated at a very good table overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue. She started with Clams Casino and I the onion soup. She was delighted by her Linguini Vittorio, especially after the chef himself came out to ask how she liked it. I got the sausage with with brocoli rape and found it very tasty. Our attentive waiter, Nemanja, brough her a chocolate dessert with a sparkler after he heard her mention that she was getting a cannoli to go as part of her month-long celebration of her birthday. The house-made orange infused liquer was so tasty that she tried to buy a bottle to go, but was thwarted by the liquor-license rules. We will return after future Kennedy Center plays.
