Diner Reviews
  • "This is a great place for a special occasion! They go out of their way to make it special."

  • "La Locanda remains a great restaurant attraction for all. Great cuisine, wine, ambiance and sevice. Our waiter Paulo was especially good."

  • "Overall our night was pleasant. We were there to celebrate my birthday. Main issue-service was very slow. My husband received the wrong meal. It was taken back and replaced immediately, BUT once tasted, it was obvious the meal must have been sitting (it was cold and kind of dried out looking). By then I was done my meal and the other 2 people with us were almost done so my husband said to just leave it. The manager (we assume) came out and asked my husband to let them send out another meal and promised it would be right. My husband agreed and the meal was perfect (but by then the other 3 of us were done). The restaurant did provide a glass of wine on the house - but really his dinner should have been on the house."

  • "We have been to LaLocanda's on a few occasions. One of the nice things about this restaurant is that they do not pack you in like sardines. The food was very good and the service excellent. I had penne alla vodka and my husband had angel hair pasta with crabmeat. Both were very tasty and myself being a person who likes my "pasta" definitely aldente, I could not ask for a better firmness. I would recommend this restaurant as a nice night out. The prices were what you would expect ranging from 17.00 upwards to 39.00/ entrée."

  • "Casual restaurant - good food - service a bit slow but OK"

  • "A wonderful experience as always. No wonder they've won so many Best of the Main Line awards from Main Line Today magazine. From their kitchen, bar and wait staff - always a treat. Popped in for a late night dinner before a movie on Saturday night. Enjoyed the clams white and two of their always spot on original pasta dishes. Don't hesitate to return to this classic Italian restaurant."

  • "Went here to celebrate my 77th birthday and my husbands 83rd birthday. The place is lovely. A wonderful menu and served beautifully. The thing that impressed us most is the friendly servers. They interact with patrons and seemed to know repeat customers. Our server was Michel and he certainly made our day special. We can't wait to go again and introduce our family to this restaurant."

  • "Not crowded for mid-week lunch, so great for a business discussion where fairly quiet, good food and prompt service/discrete service is key."

  • "we have been to La Locanda many times, food is excellent & service is always outstanding."

  • "Friendly up beat Italian eatery worthy of a Michelin star. Everything from appetizer to dessert was excellent. If your a fan of Italian cuisine you'll absolutely love this place. If your not, this dining experience just might change your mind. I was particularly impressed with the very knowledgeable Italian wait staff who ALL appeared to be on top of their game. Coming from an Italian family, and spending some time in the kitchen myself, I can honestly say I could not have prepared any of the dishes my wife or I had any better. In short... I'm headin back real soon."

  • "The food and service were impeccable. The server was attentive without being intrusive. Great pure Italian cooking. Made us feel as though we we were visiting Italy again."

  • "Fine evening dining for couples and friends. Slightly costly, but the choices are grat, and the cuisine excellent. Our waitress was excellent, and seemed to focus on us, although it was a Saturday night and lots of people. Was not noisy, and atmosphere where we sat was romantic, which I wanted since it was our wedding anniversary. Knowledgeable on wines, special offerings, and everything else....other waitstaff also practically fell over us to refill glasses, jump to our any request....quite a treat. "

  • "Enjoyed a relaxing and delicious dinner with friends. Our server, Paulo was attentive and knowledgeable. We were not rushed at all and were allowed to sit and talk after we finished our meal."

  • "We had a group of 5 family members coming over for dinner and wife didn't feel like cooking, after a breif moment of contemplation we booked our Easter feast at La Locanda. We had eaten there before and were never disappointed with the food, service and ambiance. The portions were more than ample and served with the utmost care. Additionally, we had an attentive waiter, Massimo, who paid particular attention to our culinary quirks. All in all, a great time was had by all and warrants a repeat performance... encore! "

  • "I have gone to this restaurant a number of times with Children, just my wife, family from Europe or with my 86 year old mother. La Locanda has never failed me. The wine list, the food and the bar are all excellent and I am thrilled to have such a quality restaurant minutes from our Malvern home. My mother loves the Dover Sole prepared table side while I have always had a great steak."

  • "Delicious Italian food! Very creative presentation! Had the fresh fish prepared table-side: Dover Sole and Branzino. Superb service!"

  • "Love this place! Excellent menu, excellent food, great service! Our waiter was knowledgeable about the food, very friendly, extremely attentive yet he did not make us feel rushed. Highly recommend !"

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant having received a gift certificate, It was good. Food was tasty and hot. Caesar salad was very fresh. However, the lobster bisque soup was horrible. There was no lobster! It was a bowl of pink cream with tons of minced roasted red peppers. It tasted more like roasted pepper bisque rather than lobster. Angel hair and crab entree was also somewhat disappointing. The menu said "jumbo lump crab".....it was very far from jumbo anything. There were several small pieces of white crabmeat, but that was about it. The sauce tasted like basic red marinara, not like the crab had been cooked in it. My husband enjoyed his entree and the sauces used were tasty. Desserts were just okay."

  • "We stumbled upon La Locanda while searching for food and warmth back in January during the power outage. They found us a table, despite being very crowded, and even though we were not dressed as nicely as the restaurant deserves - we felt bad about looking bad, but we sure did enjoy a warm, delicious meal in a great setting. Fast forward to our recent reservation - we had to get all dolled up for our family picture in our church directory, and figured we should go out afterward, while we were looking our best - our first thought was "La Locanda!" Once again, we enjoyed a great meal (with our 2 middle school children, even) and this time we were dressed for the occasion."

  • "If you are enjoying lunch here, it's wonderful. Dinner is also delicious just a little noisy. But that's acceptable because the food makes up for the noise."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "While not necessarily a stellar food standout, it consistently provides good food at a good price. Very accommodating for families. We will be back. "
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "This used to be a restaurant with good solid Italian food. The last few times the salads have been drowning in dressing. Since the brick oven is gone the bread is just boring. Dinners are either drenched in sauces or oil or overcooked."

  • "This was my first time to La Laconda and it was a wonderful dining experience. It was a busy Saturday night but our server was attentive without the annoying interruptions found at other places. We were not rushed and left to enjoy our meal which we did immensely. I tried the Screppelles soup which was recommended and it did not disappoint. The lobster ravioli had large chunks of lobster and was delicious. It was a pleasant evening and a place I look forward to dining at again."

  • "This is a great spot for authentic Italian food in the suburbs. The inside atmosphere is very nice, feels like you are in Italy, the bar has a lot of activity and the food is first rate. Had the Screpelles soup to start, really good chicken broth with pasta, spouse had a Veal Shank special with risotto, she loved the flavors but it was did not "fall off the bone" as advertised, but still good and very generous portion. I had the Linguine Pescatore with red sauce, really nice portion of pasta with plenty of mussels, clams, shrimp, and calamari. Had gelato for dessert and a nice Malbec recomended by the waitress. The waitress was great, very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. Glad we came back to an old favorite of ours."

  • "This restaurant has been here forever. It wasn't till recently that me and my husband went there that we discovered what we were missing. The restaurant is in an old house and they have maintained most of the original floor boards, fire place, etc... It is very romantic with tables not too close together. The food is awesome! A must try is the dessert "Hot Love". It is great for a couple to share. I cant say enough about it. This is the second time there and my only complaint about this past time was the waiter was not very attentive."

  • "We keep coming back. Quality food, pleasant service, local feel, reasonable prices."

  • "Reasonably priced menu and wine selection. Service slow, but very friendly; had to ask about night's specials when placing orders. We had lasagna (tasty, but a bit dry and medium warm), Dover Sole (final prep table-side and very enjoyable) & veal saltimbocca (medium warm, sage overpowering), pasta side (dry and medium warm). Suspect that large private party had over-burdened kitchen and wait-staff. Probably won't re-visit."

  • "Mid-week business lunch. Everyone was delighted with the home made screpples and minestrone soups. Perfect for this cold winter day. From salads, to panni's to chicken cutlet sandwiches it was a great treat for a business lunch. Come see all the new renovations and special touches Mario and Franco have added."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant and from the reviews we thought we would give it a try. The food as well as the service was very good but we really did not like the Sun Room dining room. The decor was not as nice as the other two dining areas that we walked through while we were waiting to be seated. If I had known that we were to be seated in sun room I would have waited for a table to be available in one of the other two dining rooms."

  • "We have our family get togethers here 3-4 times a year. Because of the snow, we stayed local this Valentine's Day and were quite happy with their event."

  • "it was delicious, however very crowded on Valentine's Night. Great selection and nicely presented. Desserts delicious, too. I would dine here again in a heartbeat."

  • "Food and service were good, not enough pasta with the chicken parm. They accepted my Visa gift card at the bar, but wouldn't accept it for dinner, don't quite understand why. Luckily I had some cash:/"

  • "We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. The Italian food menu contains lots of choices in every section, including salads, pasta, veal, chicken, fish, beef and a few vegetarian. Their eggplant La Locanda is a particular stand-out appetizer. Pricing is high, but the quality of the food and the dining experience is worth it. Figure on approximately $50 per person as a benchmark, although you could spend much less without alcohol and major entrées. This restaurant is particularly great for special occasion dinners and the management will accommodate various special requests and demonstrate a sweet attitude."

  • "Business lunch - mid week. 3 of our four guests sampled the BEST OF THE MAIN LINE award winning Screpples soup. Main Line Today Magazine got it right - as this soup is not to be missed. We followed our soup with tasty, fresh fresh salads, and wonderful service as always. Mario and Franco have added lots of wonderful new touches to this great restaurant, if you haven't been in a while, you need to come back!"

  • "As usual, it was a great dining experience. The drinks and the food are excellent. The service is great. I love the atmosphere. We lucked out and got a table by the fireplace. Our server was very personable and attentive. We were seated right away at our 7:30 reservation time. It is always a great meal at this restaurant."
