A word from Ristorante Il Poeta
Il Poeta is an Italian restaurant with a Northern Italian cuisine. Chef and co-owner Mario Di Chiara has over 20 years experience in the most famous Italian restaurant in Venice and NYC with 10 years work experience in Cipriani’s restaurant. In summer 2011 the Italian Government award Il Poeta with "Ospiutalita Italiana nel Mondo" meaning that it is a truly authentic Italian restaurant (so far we are the only Italian restaurant in all Queens to have this award from the Italian Government).

  • An Authentic Italian Restaurant

Mario, the Venetian chef, offers a constantly changing menu variety. His food is NOT the typical Italian-American brand, with excess tomato sauce and melted cheese toppings; rather, he offers the sort of food that is served in high-end restaurants in northern Italy. (We say this as diners who have spent several happy years living and eating in Italy.) Luca, the head-waiter and other partner, is excellent in helping customers through the menu, offering to have Mario vary the menu choices to appeal to needs and interests of customers. The wine-list is excellent, combining both American and Italian choices and the ambience of quite pleasant. We've eaten many times at Il Poeta during the last few years and have never been disappointed.

  • IL POETA on Metropolitan Avenue

IL POETA on Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills is among some reliably great restaurants. This Sunday evening was my third visit to Il Poeta. Their menu offers some out-of-the-ordinary Italian selection. My dining companion had the fish special and I the lamb chop special with spinach salad and crab cake appetizers, beautifully presented and very tasty. An enjoyable experience, again.

  • Quite tasteless and overpriced...

This rating is not very good, sorry but it's honest: When we got there our table was not ready though there were empty tables. My gf wanted a sweet wine and was just given a small/ cute glass of wine- no tasting no asking if she liked it. I asked for Veal Parmiginana and it was hugely overpriced (I live a walk from Little Italy in NYC). When it arrived, it was plain fried Veal. As we ordered a salad to split, I asked it the salad side can be changed for spagetti or linguini and we'll pay any difference... the waiter said no. Salad was not interesting and had a relatively tasteless dressing; two separate plates to share were not supplied. I asked politely for the Manager and that person never came. The food was attractive and bland. Goodluck

Met friends for a long, quiet dinner together. Food was really good, good choices, waitor recommended their best dishes. Quiet so we could have a great visit with friends. Unrushed service. Moderate price. Couldn't be a better evening.

It has been an almost 2 years since I was at Il Poeta. And I am happy to report the menu now accommodates everyone. Good choices good food. The only minor complaint is portion size. It's a bit small but the quality and skills of the kitchen are very good!

Superb in every aspect of the dining experience. We were a party of two. I had been there previously but the other person was not and she loved it as much as I. I find nothing wrong with it from the food, to the service, to the general look of the restaurant. I will continue to recommend it to all I know.

We were very impressed with the service and the food. The manager Luca is a very good host and makes you feel welcome. The menue is not over burden with a lot of specials. There are several specials that were very good and the menue is well balenced. Something for everyone. It is a great neighborhood find.
