Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Ristorante Bartolotta for my wife's birthday. The food is outstanding! All pasta is made fresh and the dishes are presented elegantly. We had the Pappardelle al Ragu d'Anatra, Rigatoni con Melanzane al Sugo di Pomodoro, and the Garganelli alla Panna con Prosciutto e Piselli. I recommend all three. For desert the Tiramisu is fantastic with a cup of coffee and espresso. The service was outstanding with two people assigned to your table. If you are in Milwaukee, make a reservation to a special dining experience. The dining area is quaint, but small, so make your reservation ahead of time to get your table."

  • "Enjoyed the pork chop entree ordered by three at our table of four. Meat delectable and tender, generous serving. Cheese Risotto ordered as side dish was very, very salty. Chef should have known to hold off on salting because addition of cheeses at finish was plenty of salt. Bread ceremony was a little silly: Server places saucer of butter on table, sets a small plate for each of us, uses tongs to serve each a smallish slice of rustic bread and disappears. No more for us! Bread was moist but the crust hard to bite or tear and it was nothing special. Overall, the meal did not have the feeling of abbondaza although all staff were friendly."

  • "Everything is amazing at Ristorante Bartolotta. It's comfortable, the drinks are impeccable. From the bread and olive oil to the misticanza di campo to the mussels and rigatoni, every bite is a joy. And the wine is always a great pairing. Josh, the bartender is delightful."

  • "My husband and I and another couple met Sunday evening for dinner. The food was excellent, wine selections very good. Our servers were prompt and helpful. When my husband and I stood up after dinner, our black clothing was covered with white lint. One of our servers saw the dismay on our faces and rushed over to explain that " the white napkins do that, but we also have black napkins for those who ask for them." Not knowing about the special black napkins, we did not ask for them nor were they offered before we sat down. I think it's time to procure some new napkins. Interestingly, a week ago we dined in a large group at Joey Gerard's. We had white linen napkins at dinner, and no one suffered any white lint problems."

  • "Went to Bartolottas to celebrate my wife's birthday. Great food, super service even though they were very busy. 1st decent spring day so we walked there. It was beautiful. The salmon was wonderful. We'll be back."

  • "My fiance and I were celebrating our anniversary and it was the perfect setting, a nice, little, quaint setting with a wonderful staff and great food! We enjoyed our "duck rague" and our arugula/tomato/blue cheese salad very much. Would definitely recommend it - as well as this great place!"

  • "My family came from Chicago to take me to a nice restaurant for my birthday. My son and daughter-in-law like to dine out, and had asked me to make a reservation at a nice place. I chose Ristorante Bartolatta because I had never been there, and we all love Italian food. Our experience was near perfect. I would say that the only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been a table or booth off to the side, or in a corner. We were a party of 5, and sat at a long table in the middle of the room that had a lot of traffic all around it which I found a bit distracting. Otherwise, everyone loved their food, and service was excellent. My daughter-in-law commented that she had never had such delicious brussel sprouts anywhere."

  • "Having lived in Europe for several years, I miss Italian food. It's more than just red tomato sauce. Carpaccio is our favorite appetizer and Bartolotta's does not disappoint. Hand made pasta with duck ragu, meaty chunks of meat and the large portion enough for lunch the next day. Try the Lambrusco. It's a dry Lambrusco and a huge hit with the staff as each member of the staff that stopped by for service mentioned how much they loved it."

  • "We are frequent diners at this place. Food was good, one small problem which was taken care of. Change of staff recently so it didn`t seem quite as comfortable or relaxing. Several groups with small children and louder than usual music did not sit well with us on this occasion. Not the quiet, relaxing, adult evening that we normally experience there. We will go back there though."

  • "This was probably one of the best meals I've had in awhile . The only negative, it is a small place and tables are close."

  • "Rustic Italian, Old-World feel... Epic Wine list + great unique cocktails. Intimate dinning experience, so make your reservations in advance. Service is world-class. The Bartolottas have become known world-wide for their cuisine. The brothers have been featured on the food network, and most recently, Paul was a guest on the Top Chef finale episode (season 11)."

  • "The food and service were excellent. I had the grilled salmon and it was one of the best I've ever had. I love the intimate setting and caring service. We were there with our sons celebrating my husbands birthday and it was a lovely evening. We will definitely return."

  • "Should have arrived earlier to find parking, but our table was ready on arrival. Plenty full, but service was great and food arrived promptly. Lots of wine choices and wonderful food choices. You have to try the mussels, and save room for dessert."

  • "On our first visit to Ristorante, my husband and I had a fantastic dinner. He got the Caesar salad to start which was awesome. I got the soup special that was eh-okay. For our main meal, he ordered a spaghetti type dish (I don't recall the name) and he loved it. I got the filet. It was cooked perfectly and the accompanying potatoes were so good. Could have had another bowl of those! We ended dinner with the flour-less chocolate cake and it was one of the best we've had (it's always our staple when it's on the menu). We'll be back for a special occasion. The two servers we had were both very friendly and attentive."

  • "The restaurant was very noisy, tables were extremely close together and the food was mediocre. All of that could be understood however the service was atrocious, actually sat for 20 minutes after completing our meal with plates still in front of us, empty drink glasses and still had to flag down the waitress. She was also not very knowledgeable on the wine/drink list as well. For the money charged it was definitely not worth it."

  • "This has been a favorite of ours for years......the food is always amazing and the service superb! We were disappointed, however, when the Bartolotta Group decided to switch the fabulous Bread from BREADSMITH to ROCKET BABY ...........truly, not the same and not as soft and yummy. Dining on a Monday or Tuesday is a bonus because they have half-price bottled wine! The Mussels are wonderful with a spectacular Saffron sauce; the pasta and eggplant with fresh mozzarella is my husband's favorite~a must try!"

  • "Ristorante was the one Bartolotta restaurant in Milwaukee that we had not been to so on our anniversary we went with expectations to experience more of the Bartolotta way. Our server hardly came by to see if we needed anything. He seemed much too busy for us. The toasted bread for the appetizer was burnt - not just extra dark- black. Same thing with some of the fish in my husband's dish. We will not be returning to Ristorante."

  • "We've been coming here since they opened. Thanks to the Bartolottas for keeping some old favorites on the menu like the beef carpaccio and the duck ragu and of course the bread is to die for. It my favorite Bartolotta's restaurant."

  • "Excellent martini from Josh as always. I went for my old standby - the ravioli in truffle butter and it was superb. My mom loved the wood fired pork chop and the chicken dish with brussels and mashed potatoes is always outstanding. Tried a new amaro after dinner which was fantastic and just what the doctor ordered for my head cold."

  • "I was looking forward to divining at one of Wisconsin's most notable restaurants but was left feeling slightly shorted. My friends and I were looking forward to being wowed but we left feeling vastly underwhelmed. The food was ok but laced that something special. Don't let me dissuade you but be prepare to ask yourself what is all the fuss about."

  • "Food, as always, a winner. Tiramisu best anywhere. Entrees delicious. And don't get me wrong, I liked our servers. But why when you go to Bartalotta's and you have two servers working your table do you generally feel a bit under-served? My only real issue was the fact we came through the door on a Saturday at 5:30 and were sandwiched between two occupied tables just behind the entrance door while there was all kinds of free space available in the restaurant. Serves me right for being a wuss and not saying something like, "Can we have one of those tables over there so we don't have to sit in the laps (and conversations) of the five people we now need to make friends with?""

  • "Loved the food, service and wine. Hand made Brandy Old Fashions a treat. A little loud and no privacy with couples two feet on either side of us."

  • "My wife and I had dinner Sunday night weekend of Valentine's Day. Overall, we had a great experience. We both enjoyed the food which was excellent. Our disappointment was in 2 areas: I ordered a drink which the waiter must have forgotten the order. I twice reminded the staff before it finally came just before dinner. Second, we felt very cramped at out table. We had 2 small tables on each side barely one body width apart, and this made our dinner uncomfortable. Please understand we liked the restaurant and plan to return. I do think the "fixes" can be made to make future dining experiences even better."
