Diner Reviews
  • "We had dinner and glass of Red wine. The service and ambience were very good. The Prawn pasta was excellent. We'll definitely come back."

  • "We had excellent meals here, and were extremely happy, the only thing that bothered us was that we were in and out in about 45 minutes. We had Steak dinners, so that is really fast. The gentleman that filled our water was the most helpful, knowledgable and nicest to us. Our actual waiter wanted our order, then our credit card, and then wanted us out so he could give our table to the next person. The food was great, and we had some good service but for the most part it didn't feel like they wanted us there. It wasn't a "dining experience" that this place is so capable of having. "

  • "Overall great food and service. Nice atmosphere in a historic building however acoustics were awful and it was so loud that it was hard to have a conversation across the table. We would eat here again because the food and service was so good but maybe better for lunch instead of dinner with the bar scene noise."

  • "This place was amazing. Their service was superb. They were busy but their service was fast and friendly. They took care of all our dining needs. Our glasses were always full and our bread plate was always fresh. The food was fresh with lots of flavor. The bread pudding was worth every penny. Try the Wild mushroom ravioli, the cream sauce was delicious."

  • "The food & service was great, but when I made my reservation i put down that it was my husband's Birthday & no one acknowledged that it was, that was disappointing!"

  • "Allegria is a wonderful restaurant. Make sure to end the night with their amazing bread pudding topped off with vanilla gelato!"

  • "dry lamb shank. Boxed it after a few bites. Had it for breakfast after reheating in the microwave with a wet towel over it. Got rid of the dryness...Much better!"

  • "I love the ambiance, set in an old bank. The food was great. It was hard to hear my dining partner as the place was buzzing on a Wed. night. Still, I would go back for all the parts I liked."

  • "Food was fantastic!! Waiter forgot our drinks and claimed the computer went down we had to remind him. The tables next to us was so close you could hear entire conversations on both sides. We were celebrating our 25th Anniversary it was not mentioned nor was our table remotely romantic."

  • "We went for a surprise party, the wait staff did a wonderful job accommodating our group of eleven. Great food, drinks, excellent service. A must go to if you are a local or visiting the Napa area."

  • "We made our reservation just a day before dining and Ristorante Allegria was able to give us a very special table and a superb experience. As out-of-towners, we had no preconceived ideas about this restaurant - but chose it for proximity to the theater and price point. Lucky us!! Everything about it exceeded our hopes. The building is an old bank with miles of character and richness. The menu offerings were plentiful - as were the portions. The Napa Cabbage Salad and the Pappardelle Allo Zafferano were mind blowing. The bread pudding was exceptional as well - and I'm a snob! We left our umbrella at a concert at the Uptown Theater, subconsciously, just to have an excuse to come back to town for dinner at Ristorante Allegria."

  • "Prior to seeing Chris Botti's performance at the Uptown Theater, my husband and I wanted to treat ourselves to a lovely Italian meal, and through the internet, we chose Ristorante Allegria because of the large menu selection and for the beautifully decorated dining room. Our waiter was very professional, polite, and provided us with good service, but sadly, our dining experience was very disappointing. Starting with the vodka martinis with NO vodka; the ceasar's salad was wilty(maybe they used outer layers); the wild mushroom ravioli was extremely salty(and I like salt); and the scaloppini was over cooked. Chris Botti was the perfect dessert after a not so pleasant meal."

  • "I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant. I have dined at the bar, the outside patio an the inside. Every time was a great experience, good food and wonderful customer service. It tends to get crowded so reservations are needed to dine inside."

  • "This is a place we constantly dine, being Napa local. We have never had a bad experience with the service, food, or atmosphere. Awesome place. Keep in mind, it does fill up around 6pm, so it's perfect for an intimate early dinner. Making reservations is a great idea."

  • "Given that Napa is a destination for foodies, this place was a disappointment. The food left a lot to be desired. This place is crowded. Without a reservation, you should be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes. My wife and I ordered an appetizer and it was pretty good. The main courses however were bland. The food was not up to par with some of the other places in town. We were at Tarla the night before and it was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and everything was bursting with flavor. We ordered a dessert just to see if we had bad luck with the main courses. The crime brûlée was very cold. It just soldified our view that this was a bad choice of restaurant."

  • "This is an old bank. If you are lucky you'll get to wander through it with the hostess as she leads you to a room somewhere beyond the main downstairs area. We were in a quiet room upstairs with a great view of the courtyard. We started with the Bruschetta al Pomodoro which had crusty bread & fresh tomatoes. My husband had the grilled pork chop with Sun-Dried Cherry Merlot Wine Reduction. I had the vitello di Scaloppini which has pan seared veal scaloppini on Garlic-Mashed Potatoes Sauteed Spinach, Artichoke Hearts, Capers, Veal Demi-Glace Sauce. All the food was wonderfully prepared and tasted fantastic."

  • "Even with reservations you would think they would consider a good table. and we were in the bar. we should have jsut stayed at the bar the seat, view etc were far better. this table had bench on one side that didnt even go all the way to the end. a plant was there? not good table at all .asked to change but said they were bookd. so again whats the point of reservations we three sat at a table by check in desk and door meant for two peopel. seems reservations fall into the Seinfeld category."

  • "We always go to Allegria for our anniversary but something about that day was actually different . The food seemed more flavorful specially with the calamari friti. The soup of the day was great! Potato leak soup! For some odd reason I've been looking for a certain flavor for the past couple weeks and that soup actually hit the stop dead on with its creamy texture and flavorful taste. As usual I order the catch of the day and lucky me it's ahi ahi. Wow that ahi was one of the best that I had that was prepare the way they did."

  • "Always a favorite place when hankering for Italian food with substance. Service is spot on from the moment you arrive until you leave. Started off with the mussels & clams appetizer which was delivered promptly and devoured even before our server came to check on us:) After glancing at the menu, we all had the special pasta of the night: crab ravioli with prawns in a saffron sauce. WOW, my taste buds are still talking about it! Bread Pudding ranks right up there with my mom's, so it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal."

  • "We absolutely loved this restaurant! Went for our 9th anniversary on a recommendation from our B&B innkeeper form Oleander house. We enjoyed the energy and relaxed but special vibe. There were families, couples, ladies dining really ran the gamut as for fellow diners. The staff was very attentive and gave us a special toast because we were celebrating. We really appreciated the gesture. My spouse loved his Frutti Di Mare and I had a pasta dish with saffron sauce, both were delicious! Cocktails were also deliciously potent. We definitely recommend this place if you are dining in downtown Napa!"

  • "I made reservations to this restaurant for my dinner before the Napa Valley Marathon. The place, to my surprise, was very busy and energetic. I guess I expected Napa restaurants to be a little bit more intimate and quiet. That wasn't an issue for me though because I enjoyed the energy. The food was great. I had the chicken gnocchi and my date had the salmon. We enjoyed the food and the vibe and would return again to try other items on the menu."

  • "We often dine here when traveling in the Napa area. The food is very good, the staff are very nice & the restaurant itself is in an interesting old building. We have never had anything here that we didn't like. The food is above grade Italian, well prepared and attractively presented. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The food is served quickly but you do not feel rushed. Service is attentive but not obtrusive."

  • "This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel, and recommended by our B&B owner. We weren't sure what time we would make it to town, so we were happy they had some reservations available. It was perfectly fine, but we left feeling like we wasted a Napa meal on an average restaurant. I had a cocktail that was way too sweet, but it was probably my fault for ordering incorrectly. The food was good, but not remarkable."

  • "While all the wait and bus staff looked very efficient and professional, our waitress seemed to have English language issues, and so two dinner orders arrived completely wrong. When explained what they should be, she wrote it all down, and came back 10 minutes later and they were still wrong. No apologies or visit by a manager. The pork chop was quite small, and the lamb shank was tasteless, although well-braised. Forget the fried calamari, too. Won't go back."

  • "I searched for something near the Uptown Theatre where we would be going after and something that would be suitable for the palate of our not-so-adventurous 70+ parents. Location was great and easy to find. It was raining pretty hard when we arrived. There was a spot for umbrellas, but not for wet coats. We had to put them on our booth seats. The room was filled with the sound of chatter and Italian accordion music. The wine list extensive, food was excellent with great choices, service was wonderful. Our server was HAPPY, offered good advice and VERY accommodating--a complete joy. That makes an evening. The noise level was difficult for my F-I-L with his hearing loss, but we all enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back!"

  • "main room tightly arranged seating. Bar lovely, only down side is can get food plates there. people can sit at limited bar space for a long time. Menu great. Lovely desert menu! Did not go upstairs, but looked like it would have better views of downtown area. Former bank, so not a lot of windows on main level?"

  • "Very enjoyable evening. I had fruitti De mare and it was excellent. Wife had farfedelle which was also very good. Excellent Cesar salad as well. Tiramasu and cheesecake also very good."

  • "Restaurant was nice and food was good, but we had reservations at 8 pm and by that time they had run out of many of their entrees. They had to print new menus and it didn't have a drink list. We were brought water and bread, but when she came to take our order, we had not even ordered drinks and didn't have a menu. We then got the drink menu and ordered drinks and food at the same time. Essentially our drinks came out at the same time as our food, which I did not like. I would have preferred to enjoy my drinks before eating dinner, but it took so long to even get drinks so that was disappointing."

  • "I love this restaurant but the noise level was out of control. I've eaten here before and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. I made reservations for my father's 75th birthday, hoping for an intimate and peaceful evening. It was so loud, that we couldn't hear each other speak from across the table!"

  • "The restaurant had somehow managed to create an entire extra row of tables, the place was too crowded and we were sitting just a couple feet away from the couple next to us, we could hear their conversation and they could hear ours. My wife ordered the salmon and she hated it, it was dry, and burned on most sides, on bland polenta, just enough to tease your stomach. I ordered the lamb and we were not impressed at all. The server came to ask if everything was alright, my wife had just had a couple bites and told her "I really don't like it", the server didn't offer any alternative, didn't even apologize. Conclusion: very poor quality of the food... overpriced, polite but useless server. Horrible distribution of tables and space."

  • "Not everything on their menu is classic Italian, but the choices won't disappoint. We enjoyed the skirt steak, and porto bello mushroom appetizers, and a fine wine selection. It had been 4 years since my last visit, and I was not disappointed."
