RISconsistently goodNot spectacular, but the service and food never varies. It's always a good meal.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA D.C. GemRis is a place for both dinner and conversation - the tables are well spaced - everyone can hear - the menu is always fresh and interesting and the service attentive.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA solid performer.Ris started with a homey, comfort oriented menu. The restaurant has morphed into a more sophisticated, mainstream experience with a balanced menu and an excellent, well priced wine list. Overall, a very pleasant dinner.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways peerless foodLovely ambiance, deliciious food, and the chef is open to special requests. Consistently enjoyable and good value for a business dining event with a longtime friend and mentor. I will be back for sure.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMonday is meatloafStopped in between a documentary at the West End Cinema and a comedy at the Harman Theatre. We were seated in a quiet corner and got very good service from our friendly waiter. My girlfriend got a shirmp appetizer and a beet salad. I had a fish taco and the meatloaf, both from the daily specials menu. Everything was tasty.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a favorite - neverAlways a favorite - never disappoints.
Wonderful salads and fish - with a changing, seasonal menu.
Service consistently outstanding.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-theaterPerfect find for pre-theater. Not rushed at all. Great food. Superb service too. A new favorite.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food. PriceyReally excellent food. First rate. Not inexpensive, but worth it.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest scallopsRis' scallops crusted in chorizo was the best treatment of scallops I've had in a long time.
Salad also outstanding. Really hit the spot, even though Ris was not there on this Sunday night!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely Sunday AfternoonRis never disappoints. I really enjoyed brunch and the service is impeccable.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful way to celebrateWe have been meaning to try Ris since moving back to the area last summer - finally had the occasion to do that. We went to celebrate a special anniversary. So glad we did. The food was fabulous, the service top notch, and the atmosphere just perfect. While we didn't tell our server about our anniversary, the entire staff wished us a happy one. (A friend was dining there and happened to mention it to her waiter.) The food alone was enough of a draw to cause us to return - but all the other elements just pile on. We'll be back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, mussels andExcellent food, mussels and scallops as beginning and main course. Original. Appropriate noise level.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMShe HAD to go to RIS!!!!We have a good friend who moved away from the DC area about 6 months ago. She was back for the first time, last week for business and only had one Saturday night to go to a favorite spot. Hands down her choice was RIS!!!! She said it was what she missed most! She bought a friend from the area, so there were 4 of us. We had the special of the night, the pork chops. They were to die for! So my friend got her special dinner at her special place and the friend that came with her can't wait to come back. The RIS staff hit ANOTHER home run!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous day, terrific staff,Gorgeous day, terrific staff, lovely outdoor table, nicely presented food. In short, the perfect backdrop for a working lunch.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy foodLovely restaurant ambience, innovative food at lunch and dinner, very nice service.
Overall a yummy dining experience at any time of the day. Have been twice and will return.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved our trip to RISWe were celebrating a special occasion and staff members, especially Tyler, our server, went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was imaginative and well presented. We will definitely come back.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe spent a lovely relativelyWe spent a lovely relatively quiet evening
enjoying good food and wine to celebrate
our wedding anniversary.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always hit a home run at RIS!So many places we could have gone before a trip to the Kennedy Center but the tonights show began at 7PM and we wanted a nice dinner. RIS has first class food with service to match and on Saturdays they open at 5PM. But to tell you the truth--no matter when the show began---RIS is our first choice. Fresh green salad followed by delicious fish and desert so big we had to split it and so good I wanted it all!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMconsistent food qualityAs usual' the food was exceptional. The timing of delivery was strange. Between salad and main about 30 min and right before main' a cup of chowder came (very good and free but too close to entre to be appreciated)5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence just around the Corner!Lovely surprise to find this neighborhood gem.
The Margarita Lime Scallops were delicious!
We loved the flan dessert.
Our entre was scrumptious and the potage soup was out of this world.
Highly recommend Ris for an afternoon delight !
The waitstaff was very attentive and courteous.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had very attentive andWe had very attentive and polite service and very much enjoyed our brunch experience. Most DC restaurants tend to serve enormous portions and Ris definitely does not do this. I felt some of the brunch portions were overly small and clearly had to be combined with others to make an adequate meal. I would recommend some additional items on the brunch menu that would serve for a full meal (but not overly full).5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for BrunchWe took my mom to RIS for a belated Mother's Day brunch. We had a fantastic time! Great food, great service, and the restaurant itself is very lovely to be in. We will definitely be returning!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Dining!Went to RIS before a KC show. Our waiter asked us if we were on a timeline and we informed him that we were headed to KC. We had the asparagus, ceasar salad and drinks to start off. All excellent. Ordered mahi-mahi and scallops for main courses. Beautifully presented and tasted even better. Our waiter recommended the dessert of the day which was a dark/white chocolate mousse cake which we shared. It was heavenly and light. Definitely a keeper place to return to. They were nice about us leaving the car with the valet while we hopped a cab to/from the KC for the show. And we did pop in for a nightcap at the bar before heading home. Just a wonderful evening!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-Kennedy Center dinnerOur first visit to RIS was a very nice experience. The service was friendly and thoughtful. The food was delicious and interesting. The atmosphere is clean and modern without being too fussy or too casual. Our waiter offered wonderful recommendations and helped ensure that we had time to walk to Foggy Bottom to catch the shuttle to the Kennedy Center in plenty of time for a 7:00 show. We will definitely do pre-theater dinner there again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food and DC Power SpotAs if our outstanding dinner for 8 wasn't enough -- all the top women in the President's Cabinet and White House staff were having a dinner in a private room. There's something about security detail and famous faces coming into the restaurant that adds a little something. Good to remember next time you're trying to impress a client and feed them well at the same time!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMalways impeccablethe food and service at ris are always top notch. i had the halibut, which is always a treat. our very amiable efficient server has a wonderful french accent, another total treat. i just love this restaurant and look forward to returning soon for the osso bucco.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMRIS Only Gets BetterRIS has become a reliably fine option not only in my neighborhood, but overall. I am fond of the options offered for the Sunday brunch period that are broader and not necessarily as caloric as often provided. One may pick and choose from a wide variety of egg dishes and sides. The dinner hour delights with innovative entrees, healthy, nicely seasoned side dishes, and interesting desserts. I have escorted a variety of friends there, and only those who are "food challenged" have not been satisfied, if not glowing in their reaction/s. Our waiter, Torrance, was knowledgable, welcoming, attentive and overall just great.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the bestWe have been to Ris many times. The food is excellent and was again on Sunday night. The service was very good in spite of it being (the tail end of) Mother's Day....5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day.I made the reservation the nigh before Mothers Day, from the time we were greeted by the valet the experience was fantastic. Knowledgeable staff and excellent food was a great combination.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA tasty Mother's Day!We always enjoy our meals at Ris and this year's Mother's Day outing was no exception.
Waiter was excellent - professional but friendly. The flower pot for Mom is a very thoughtful touch.
We will certainly be back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThumbs upThe food was tasty, the service attentive, the decor eye-pleasing. Our first time there, and we were not a bit disappointed.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Brunch to RememberOur brunch at Ris was delicious. They have a choice of three types of mimosas to begin with- bottomless for $18. The bread basket was a hit. Highlights include the taco and short ribs small plates as well as the croque mademoiselle. We had no room for dessert, but will try to fit it in another time. Portion size was fantastic and even typically heavy sounding dishes were refreshingly light.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful treat for Mothers Day!I brought my parents to Ris for Mothers Day brunch. I'd never been before and was a bit nervous about trying somewhere new on a holiday, but the food and service both surpassed our expectations! Highly recommend the scallop margarita, smoked trout panna cotta (sounded freaky, tasted amazing), and the short rib arepas. Eggs benedict was also very nicely done. I will definitely be back to Ris for brunch and dinner as well.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently Excellent Food, But......just as consistently underwhelming service. Wife and I have been several times in the last year and we're always impressed by the seasonal variations and inventiveness of the menu. Each time, however, the pleasant but MIA servers appear to be oversat or understaffed. Wine pairings show up halfway through a course, one is left waiting for the check long after dessert, or 7-10 minutes can pass between being seated and even seeing ones' server. It's a tribute to the chef that Ris has still been worth it to us, but each time has us thinking more and more about alternatives.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent experience. MyAn excellent experience. My husband & I had dinner on a Sat. with 6 friends and everyone raved about the food and the service. We were given a round table which made it very easy to talk to everyone. Our meals were delicious & good presentation! Some of our favorites were the scallop margarita, carrot ginger soup, the quail & the scallop main course. For dessert we'd recommend the homemade sorbets & ice cream and the butterscotch pudding. Also kudos to our waiter, David. He was extremely helpful throughout the meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a busy saturday nightIt was a busy saturday night and our experience was fantastic, The food was superb and the service outstanding,5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restuarantFor our 15th wedding anniversary I took my wife to Ris. An evening out without they 5 year old made us feel a little out of place. From calling the hostess to let the restaurant know we were going to be a little late for our reservation till the end of dessert we were made to feel comfortable. We enjoyed the great food as well as happy anniversary dessert plate that came with dessert. We really don't get a chance to get out much and be adults, but this was a great time!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall experience was great...theOverall experience was great...the Osso Buco was really good, but the halibut was way over seasoned with garlic. Not sure why they killed a great piece of fish with so much with what tasted like garlic powder (and trust me I like garlic). Any way service was good, wine list was very approachable and affordable.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorableWithout a doubt, dinner was one of the best, if not the best, I have had in Washington, D.C. and in every regard. Ris stepped out of the kitchen to greet guests at the next table but stopped at ours to tell us how happy she was to see that we had cleaned our plates. The food was expertly prepared. It was served with true skill but no fuss. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive but unobtrusive. The wine (Thatcher Syrah) was delightful. The noise became noticeable only toward to the end of our meal.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the Best in WestendYet another fabulous meal at RIS! This time with clients from out of town who loved it. RIS is my business and personal favorite. Florence, our server, is outstanding. Thanks to Ris, Florence and great staff for flexibility and great food and service! See you all again soon.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a great meal at ris.we had a great meal at ris. the food was wonderful, and our server was fantastic. we had a great table with lots of space and the noise level was moderate enough that we could talk and listen with no trouble. wonderful evening.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGood timesLovely place to have a pre-opera dinner or happy hour drinks and apps. Also, lunch outside on a nice day can't be beat!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDown memory lane..What a great experience Ris was. We were welcome to the bar while our table was ready and the bartender was smart and fun. That continued with our server, who was a great conversationalist, fun and even brought us a glass of a different wine to taste just because. The food was outstanding, and sadly there are no half stars, only to underline the fact that the broth of the seafood stew, otherwise delicious, was a bit heavy on the salt. After the salty taste weakened, one could taste the saffron underneath. Genius. Don't miss the scallop margarita and the pepita rockfish (amazing!).5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways fabulousFrequent for lunch, which is always delicious. Dinner is equally superb.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful in everyway. FoodWonderful in everyway. Food outstanding. Best tasting menu I've ever had. Service exceptionally outstanding, without exception, by every member of the RIS staff who interacted with us. And given the high crowding on Saturday night and high noise level, that level of exceptional service is even more amazing.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy, great food ideasWe went for a somewhat special occasion, my wife's last night in town after a month long visit and RIS made sure her stay ended on a high note. Excellent dishes throughout the menu, a few favorites and enticing new ideas that worked a treat. I had a delicious scallop martini, just what it sounds like, scallops served as if they were a martini, a idea fun that really worked. My wife had excellent grilled swordfish for entree on an excellent bed of salad. simple and sophisticated that brought out the taste of the fish.
We left satisfied and happy, savoring good tastes without feeling like we'd eaten enough for a week. Highly recommended.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I have dined atMy wife and I have dined at Ris many times and have always enjoyed the food and service, both of which are first rate.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Reliable!Always good. A reliable place to take a business associate or just go to with friends.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service. As always RIS was the perfect setting for dinner...in this case a business dinner.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMRIS is great! More peopleRIS is great! More people should try it. Service is great.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
