  • Special Events & Promotions: RIS offers three beautiful private dining spaces for every occasion from business dinners to wedding rehearsals. The State Room is our smallest and most intimate dining room, seating a maximum of 10 guests. The Federal Room seats up to 35 guests, and comfortably accommodates up to 45 for a standing cocktail reception. The Main Dining Room accommodates 40 guests, and when coupled with the adjacent State Room, seats to 50 diners. We also have other options for group dining, including two banquettes that seat up to 16 guests. For more casual receptions, the Cafe area next to our bar is a great location for a standing cocktail reception. Contact Natalie Christenson at events@risdc.com to book your special event!

  • Public Transit: From Foggy Bottom Metro (Orange and Blue Lines) 1. As you exit the Metro, turn left onto 23rd Street. 2. At the traffic circle, take the 5th exit and continue on 23rd Street. 3. Walk one block. 4. Turn right at L Street NW. RIS will be across the street on the left.
  • Parking: Valet
  • Parking Details: Valet Parking is available in the evenings after 6:30 during the week, and 5:00 on the weekends. The valet stand is on L Street outside of our main entrance. There is also open-air parking lot, Systems Parking, located across the street from RIS at 1120 23rd Street NW.

  • "So fun! We started the night at the bar with two delicious cocktails. A Tamarita and something with vodka and a lychee in it. The bartender was great and knowledgeable AND he introduced us to the sommelier. A couple of lovely glasses of wine later we had a sumptuous meal. I highly recommend this restaurant. GO or buy someone you love a gift certificate to Ris."

  • "Kudos to RIS' management and staff for achieving a level of service and execution I often associate with New York City or San Francisco rather than the still maturing DC restaurant scene. I appreciate the non-intrusiveness of the wait staff in approaching my table when I am holding a business conversation, and especially the very elegant and professional hostess and the genuinely warm and friendly bartender. RIS seems to get these aspects right and recognizes the nature of its clientele and treats it with a higher level of sophistication. I wish other restaurants would get this. I don't usually judge restaurants based on their lunch menus but I commend RIS for putting thought and execution to all the dishes we ordered."

  • "I have loved Ris since the moment I set foot in this establishment a year ago and it has remained consistent. I love to go for brunch as they have the best fresh baked breads ever! Specifically, the biscuits are melt in your mouth delish! Additionally, I always have to see the dessert menu before ordering my meal because depending on what they have to go with their homemade ice cream, it's work trying. The food is always hot and flavorful. They don't have a huge selection of items on the menu, but it's enough to accommodate everyone and all quality food. I say it's a must for brunch."

  • "We went to brunch with a party of 7, with nice seating. It was rather quiet around 10:30/11 am. Absolutely delicious croque mademoiselle and the waiter was both respectful and attentive. We got bottomless mimosas (which were excellent and at a fair price) and the waiter was not shy about asking everyone for refills a number of times. They were just strong enough. The mimosas were offered in different flavors, but the classic was still the best. We met the owner, who was very humble and sweet!"

  • "Our most recent dinner at Ris was superb. The food was all extremely well prepared, particularly the grilled octopus salad. The service was cordial, friendly, and very efficient. The pistachio Pimm's Cup was an unusual and very tasty cocktail. Portuguese seafood stew was a fine combination of various types of seafood in a sauce that was spicy but not overwhelming thickened just a bit, not too much, with chickpeas. Ambiance is good with an attractive and comfortable dining room but no view. The place is not dressy--few men wore ties, many were very casually dressed even on a Saturday."

  • "We tried Ris and the food did not disappoint. A decent drink selection (including for the beer drinkers in the party). Many of us selected from the pre-marquee menu and were pleasantly surprised. The skirt steak was melt in your mouth and soup of the day--carrot ginger--was excellent with a little surprise of pineapple bits. Despite stating we had to make a show at the Kennedy Center, service was slow (and our waitress disappeared for quite a period) so we rushed through the end of our meal, grabbing a cab and making it to KC with only 2 mins to spare. Nice ambience, it felt like a real "grown up" event, great food."

  • "I have been to RIS on several occasions. This restaurant is a great place to eat. Always consistent and their menu this Spring is outstanding. It was delicious. The only thing is the wine I had chosen was not in stock. That's one pet peeve of mine. Make sure the bar is always full. I can understand if I was there on a Tuesday since they had just served for the weekend but we were there on Thursday and the wine should have been available. Anyway enough said. I am certainly not bashing this restaurant. I have been to many amazing restaurants across the world and this ranks as one of the best in my book. I will be back soon. Bon appétit !!!!"

Beautiful venue, with private dining rooms for parties; not noisy-why do several new hotspots think that it's chic for diners to shout at one another? Most important, the menu is creative but not eccentric, and the preparation and presentation is spot on. We've been several times, once with friends from France who are quick to "dis" less than the best, and we will keep coming back. If you have not, make a reservation. Soon!"

  • "We love eating at the bar at Ris, and in the summer, sitting outside with a few friends is fabulous. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the food is great. One special things is that while you can have elegant meals (I love the mussels which are very nicely done) but there is always comfort food available. What a good balance that is. Something for everyone."

  • "Dropped in after seeing "Smokey Joe's Cafe" at Arena Stage. Used an Open Table check to defray the cost of the meal. My girlfriedn liked her aspagus salad and lamb shanks entree. My shrimp tempura appetizer was delicious and the skirt steak cooked well as ordered. The high point of the meal for my companion was the take-home serving of cookies. Service was friendly and attentive."
