RISRIS Only Gets BetterRIS has become a reliably fine option not only in my neighborhood, but overall. I am fond of the options offered for the Sunday brunch period that are broader and not necessarily as caloric as often provided. One may pick and choose from a wide variety of egg dishes and sides. The dinner hour delights with innovative entrees, healthy, nicely seasoned side dishes, and interesting desserts. I have escorted a variety of friends there, and only those who are "food challenged" have not been satisfied, if not glowing in their reaction/s. Our waiter, Torrance, was knowledgable, welcoming, attentive and overall just great.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA tasty Mother's Day!We always enjoy our meals at Ris and this year's Mother's Day outing was no exception.
Waiter was excellent - professional but friendly. The flower pot for Mom is a very thoughtful touch.
We will certainly be back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the bestWe have been to Ris many times. The food is excellent and was again on Sunday night. The service was very good in spite of it being (the tail end of) Mother's Day....5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful treat for Mothers Day!I brought my parents to Ris for Mothers Day brunch. I'd never been before and was a bit nervous about trying somewhere new on a holiday, but the food and service both surpassed our expectations! Highly recommend the scallop margarita, smoked trout panna cotta (sounded freaky, tasted amazing), and the short rib arepas. Eggs benedict was also very nicely done. I will definitely be back to Ris for brunch and dinner as well.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day.I made the reservation the nigh before Mothers Day, from the time we were greeted by the valet the experience was fantastic. Knowledgeable staff and excellent food was a great combination.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Brunch to RememberOur brunch at Ris was delicious. They have a choice of three types of mimosas to begin with- bottomless for $18. The bread basket was a hit. Highlights include the taco and short ribs small plates as well as the croque mademoiselle. We had no room for dessert, but will try to fit it in another time. Portion size was fantastic and even typically heavy sounding dishes were refreshingly light.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThumbs upThe food was tasty, the service attentive, the decor eye-pleasing. Our first time there, and we were not a bit disappointed.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently Excellent Food, But......just as consistently underwhelming service. Wife and I have been several times in the last year and we're always impressed by the seasonal variations and inventiveness of the menu. Each time, however, the pleasant but MIA servers appear to be oversat or understaffed. Wine pairings show up halfway through a course, one is left waiting for the check long after dessert, or 7-10 minutes can pass between being seated and even seeing ones' server. It's a tribute to the chef that Ris has still been worth it to us, but each time has us thinking more and more about alternatives.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent experience. MyAn excellent experience. My husband & I had dinner on a Sat. with 6 friends and everyone raved about the food and the service. We were given a round table which made it very easy to talk to everyone. Our meals were delicious & good presentation! Some of our favorites were the scallop margarita, carrot ginger soup, the quail & the scallop main course. For dessert we'd recommend the homemade sorbets & ice cream and the butterscotch pudding. Also kudos to our waiter, David. He was extremely helpful throughout the meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a busy saturday nightIt was a busy saturday night and our experience was fantastic, The food was superb and the service outstanding,5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restuarantFor our 15th wedding anniversary I took my wife to Ris. An evening out without they 5 year old made us feel a little out of place. From calling the hostess to let the restaurant know we were going to be a little late for our reservation till the end of dessert we were made to feel comfortable. We enjoyed the great food as well as happy anniversary dessert plate that came with dessert. We really don't get a chance to get out much and be adults, but this was a great time!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorableWithout a doubt, dinner was one of the best, if not the best, I have had in Washington, D.C. and in every regard. Ris stepped out of the kitchen to greet guests at the next table but stopped at ours to tell us how happy she was to see that we had cleaned our plates. The food was expertly prepared. It was served with true skill but no fuss. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive but unobtrusive. The wine (Thatcher Syrah) was delightful. The noise became noticeable only toward to the end of our meal.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a great meal at ris.we had a great meal at ris. the food was wonderful, and our server was fantastic. we had a great table with lots of space and the noise level was moderate enough that we could talk and listen with no trouble. wonderful evening.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGood timesLovely place to have a pre-opera dinner or happy hour drinks and apps. Also, lunch outside on a nice day can't be beat!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDown memory lane..What a great experience Ris was. We were welcome to the bar while our table was ready and the bartender was smart and fun. That continued with our server, who was a great conversationalist, fun and even brought us a glass of a different wine to taste just because. The food was outstanding, and sadly there are no half stars, only to underline the fact that the broth of the seafood stew, otherwise delicious, was a bit heavy on the salt. After the salty taste weakened, one could taste the saffron underneath. Genius. Don't miss the scallop margarita and the pepita rockfish (amazing!).5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways fabulousFrequent for lunch, which is always delicious. Dinner is equally superb.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful in everyway. FoodWonderful in everyway. Food outstanding. Best tasting menu I've ever had. Service exceptionally outstanding, without exception, by every member of the RIS staff who interacted with us. And given the high crowding on Saturday night and high noise level, that level of exceptional service is even more amazing.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy, great food ideasWe went for a somewhat special occasion, my wife's last night in town after a month long visit and RIS made sure her stay ended on a high note. Excellent dishes throughout the menu, a few favorites and enticing new ideas that worked a treat. I had a delicious scallop martini, just what it sounds like, scallops served as if they were a martini, a idea fun that really worked. My wife had excellent grilled swordfish for entree on an excellent bed of salad. simple and sophisticated that brought out the taste of the fish.
We left satisfied and happy, savoring good tastes without feeling like we'd eaten enough for a week. Highly recommended.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I have dined atMy wife and I have dined at Ris many times and have always enjoyed the food and service, both of which are first rate.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Reliable!Always good. We were greeted at the door and they immediately sat us in a booth with high walls. How perfect!! We had phenomenal service and the food was great. We all highly recommend the venue!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMHad dinner with a businessHad dinner with a business acquaintance on a Tuesday night. The food was fantastic. Our table was a mini booth near the server station so that was a little distracting. The service was polite and attentive but not particularly friendly. I felt the hostess was a little haughty. Attitude = you're lucky to be dining here. But those quibbles aside I do really like this restaurant and often recommend it for special occasions or small business dinners.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate with long time friendsWe ate with long time friends from out of town and everyone remarked how wonderful the food was. Our visit was a great evening.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNice EveningWe thoroughly enjoyed French night on the patio. I had the quiche de jour, which was wonderful. They let us linger and talk, the noise level was just right and the food is always so good. My Rockfish was devine! Thank you so much and thank you for supporting Cystic Fibrosis and the Chefs in the City event last year! It matters and helped us decide to eat with you.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service - friendlyExcellent service - friendly - pre-theater dinner - tasty - nice selection - extremely well presented4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant!I want to preface my remarks by saying that this is my kind of food. This is exactly what I hope to find every time I go out to eat – but so rarely do. RIS served some of the best food I have eaten in a very long time. Every dish was a wonderful combination of ingredients without being contrived, creative without being eccentric, and contemporary but mindful of tradition. There was a freshness to all the tastes that I find so often missing in much of the restaurant food that I eat. The chef clearly has a deft touch. The restaurant is modern, yet soothing. The staff is welcoming and efficient. The wine list is well put together and reasonably priced. This was fantastic dining experience. I can’t wait to go back.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe attention that the staffThe attention that the staff shows its clientele reflects Chef Ris' desire to provide a memorable experience in dining out.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit toThis was our first visit to this West End eatery, and we were thrilled with our visit! We had to alter our reservation time twice and they were very gracious about that. The server was knowledgable, courteous, efficient, and had a fine sense of timing with food and drinks. We had rabbit, quail, and the very unusual but extremely tasty chicken salad. We also had their signature butterscotch pudding dessert as well as an apricot coupe with dark sweet cherries. The food delicious, the prices very reasonable, and now we have a new place we can visit, even on a workday! We would have eaten outside but the street noise is pretty high. Can't wait to return to this delightful restaurant.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a delicious brunch thereHad a delicious brunch there this recent Sunday. Though on the pricy side, it was well worth it and we would return there any time.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMRIS is an absolute gem. OneRIS is an absolute gem. Happy hours both early and late, with lucious small plates for $6.30. Not a lot of drink selections available, however. I said, but these are the best seats in the place. Clearly a power place and catering to power. Great food, pretty good service, but attention to the front.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTry to get the French waitress! The five stars are really for the service - the charming French waitress.
I wish Ris felt less like I was in a hotel restaurant, but I can bear with it.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
