Diner Reviews
  • "While the food combinations and descriptions on Ripple's menu can come across as a bit pretentious, every offering was delicious and beautiful. The service was also friendly, helpful and relaxed. There are no bargains at Ripple, but for a special occasion it's a delight."

  • "Creative creations, quality product, great service. My only constructive criticism is to rethink the presentation of the lamb sausage...makes for an unappetizing look."

  • "Ripple really goes above and beyond with everything, and not in an in your face obnoxious kind of way. The food is fantastic, crisp, fresh ingredients and light delicious flavors. We ordered everything that our server Matt recomended and he didn't steer us wrong. House made spaghetti, rockfish, scallops, and butterscotch pudding were all perfect. Also, recomended a perfect wine to go with our meal and our fit our price range. Thank you Ripple for making our anniversary dinner perfect. They even put a little note on our menu for us!"

  • "Currently obsessed with Ripple!!! It was a delicious dinner and I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Ripple provided excellent service and a variety of very tasty dishes for our party of three. We had limited time before heading to a movie across the street, but were able to enjoy three courses and wine and make the show with a few minutes to spare. The halibut was a standout that evening, along with a miniature blueberry pie dessert."

  • "We live in DC and Ripple is a delight and one of our favorite restaurants. Ripple's foods are locally sourced, has great service, is reasonably quiet and has a great wine selection (including several wines under $30). We had the kohlrabi tortellini stuffed with felsa yahr cheese, seared scallops, and the cheese platter that included special cheeses that we do not normally see in restaurant (our favorite was ossau irati and pleasant ridge reserve). The price per person with tip was $50 per person. We will happily return!"

  • "Dined at Ripple with my girlfriend for our 1st date anniversary (this is also was where we had our first date). We appreciated them accommodating our request to sit at the same table as our first visit. The service was great- very attentive and friendly. We stuck with cocktails of which they had a very good selection and were prepared very well. We also stayed with appetizers and the meat and cheese platters, all of which were delicious. However, after we considered their entrees for some time, we both came to the realization that while the food at Ripple is no doubt top notch, the menu for whatever reason just doesn't 'pop'. Just a matter of taste and preference. That said, I would recommend it for a drinks and tapas dining experience."

  • "Marjorie Meek-Bradley creates culinary perfection in her daily dishes at Ripple. The food is outstanding and gets better each time we visit. The wine list and cocktails are stellar - general manager Danny Fisher knows the wineries and handpicks selections, greeting us every time with a smile and a welcome back hug. The staff are knowledgable about the dishes, the drinks and anticipate needs before you're even aware you have any. This is our go-to weekday neighborhood spot, our wedding rehearsal spot, and our special dinner spot."

  • "At nights it may be hard to find parking but i think this neighborhood gem is worth it. The charcuterrie plate with house made mustard was fantastic. I also got the pasta which was housemade. It tasted great, only wished they rolled the gnocchi on a fork to have both the texture and ability for the sauce to stick better. Steak was done well. A bit busy with the other stuff on the plate and a tad bit salty. Overall I still cleaned that entire plate. Nice meal. Will definitely go back."

  • "Great restaurant. Also, quite enough for carrying on a conversation. A real gem. Staff is very helpful, great for seafood and beef."

  • "My experience was amazing! Our waiter, Matt was so great! The food was awesome and the mimosas were even better. I will be back and I will spread the word!"

  • "Read about ripple on line and decided to check it out for dinner while visiting my daughter in DC. The food is very good and the cheese plate was outstanding, although on a small side. Great wine selection from more expensive to affordable and, although it is for foodies, it is still casual enough for those who do not like a formal feel. Overall a good experience."

  • "We took our adult daughter here for her birthday. It is clear that a great deal of care has gone into everything on the menu, cocktail menu and wine list. Everything on the plate, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant was bursting with originality and flavor. Some people might feel that there are too few selections, but trust me, there is everything you could want. My husband and daughter had selections off the cold appetizer menu and I asked our server for recommendations from the cheese menu - all amazing. Our entrees - pork shoulder, halibut and chicken were full of unique flavors. Our server said she had only been working there for 2 months, but she was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations."

  • "Fantastic menu creation and execution. Attentive table service. Attractive décor. Extensive wine list. Not cheap when you come out, but good for special occasions, dates, or out-of-town visitors."

  • "Ripple prices right tho the wine is on the higher side. Xcellent beer list too. We love to order multiple starters and small plates and graze This week wasnt quite as memorable as last visit in MArch, maybe the Monday kitchen crew is different. The bacon roasted pecans were slightly over done tho the smoked paprika and other flavors good. LAst time they were drier. We had tuna starter, chilled vichy arugula soup, home made ricotta starter, special tortellini of the day. All were EXCELLENT."

  • "On the one hand Ripple is always the same - friendly hosts, great service, excellent food & wine - on the other hand, Ripple is always different because the menu changes weekly (if not daily) and keeps you wanting to come often to see what they're making. Rare is the time when I can't finish my meal (for ex couldn't finish all the risotto w my amazing scallops) but usually there is enough food to feel full, without feeling stuffed to the gills. The food is fresh and interesting without being fussy or pretentious, and because the chef focuses on what's seasonal right now, the flavours really come through. Ripple is never a disappointment!!"

  • "Having said that, let's get into the substance: quite the find! Housed in my former haunt k.a. The Aroma Company in Cleveland Park, this was one of those few DC dining experiences where I found taste to match presentation, first in cuisine, then followed by design. Service was solid. Go forward and enjoy."

  • "We've been to Ripple several times, and we're never disappointed. But our most recent Saturday night experience was excellent in all ways -- the food was terrific from the salads to the entrees (we didn't order desserts); the atmosphere was lively without being excessively so; and the staff was gracious and knowledgeable. They were busy and a little slow to serve the entrees -- nothing serious, but a little surprising. When we made light mention of it it to the maitre d', she apologized and immediately offered complementary glasses of wine! And unsolicited, the waitress brought a small dessert with a candle because we had mentioned that it was my husband's birthday. It made for a wonderful evening -- and a resolution to go back soon."

  • "Last year we could manage a trip to Italy with our tax return. These year's return was modest and our goal was a local restaurant, hoping for Italian. In my research, I found that Ripple would have a much closer quality to the kind of food we wanted and that would remind us of last year's trip. I like my red wine to be low in tannins and not oak-y. I was guided toward a lovely organic (my hope) Frappato from the TAMI Project of Ariana Occhipinti, Contrada, Sicily, Italy, new to me. It has a light peppery flavor which surprised and delighted me and was the perfect body for my taste. Our salads, halibut and scallop dishes were perfectly executed. The pastry chef was also highly skilled. We loved our Ricotta Cheesecake and Twix Mousse Pie."

  • "I try not to go back to the same restaurant when there are so many to choose from, but I have now been to Ripple twice. Each time was a huge success. The first time I went was with a group of 4 for a birthday and the second time was a group of 6 (including 3 from the first time). Both times did not disappoint and I would be happy to go back. Everyone's meal was great and the service was even better (wish I remembered our server's name)!"

  • "In a city which has no lack of pseudo-sophisticated eateries it is true pleasure to find an excellent mix of unptentiously excellent cuisine, competent and knowledgeable staff with a sense of humour. Add to this a broad gammuth of dishes, ranging from foie gras, charcuterie through cheeses and a great selection of warm and cold staters and an intelligently small choice of mains and you should be a very happy camper by the time you leave. Oh,lest I forget, the endless wine list that caters both tp "label drinkets" and patrons who just like a decent glass of wine. "

  • "This was my second dinner at Ripple and I really loved it both times. The food is fabulous and beautifully prepared. The service and attention we received were excellent. I will definitely eat here again and plan to introduce it to family and friends. The air conditioning was a little cold in the back room; bring a jacket or wrap."

  • "The cheese selection was great and the first course was really good. But this is one of the more expensive meals I've eaten in DC in a while and I was pretty disappointed by both of the main courses we ordered- asparagus dish had almost no flavor or seasoning and the halibut dish was perfectly cooked but the combination of flavors paired with the fish weren't particularly good. Very nice service."

  • "wonderful wonderful food in a casual accessible manner. We ate from several small plates. If you eat meat, the bacon roasted nuts are to die for. The cheese selections are thoughtful, and VERY nicely presented at the cheese carving table. The veggie items quite memorable. We visit DC 2-3 x per year and now are adding this to our go to list. Great Beer list tho we had to convince them to create a Flight for us (and were charged handsomely--- receiving an ounce less per pour but being charged the full pour)"

  • "A non-crowded early afternoon Mother's Day brunch became two and half hour meal. Long, long intervals between courses, multiple servers, diluted blackberry mimosa, smoked salmon/cream cheese appetizer served with nothing else, way too-sweet choc mousse. "

  • "Ripple never disappoints. Be it the sustainable and organic wines, the extensive cheese selection, the gorgeous plating, tasty bread and crackers, or overall outstanding food, I always have a perfect dining experience. With Palena's demise, I am all the happier that Ripple is owned by experienced restaurantuers who allow the chef her freedom. "

  • "Things you have to try: cheese plate, bone marrow, and the ricotta salad. The cocktails were good and the wine recommendation was spot on. The duck was good, but not the best I have ever had, partially because the chef's recommendation was medium rare and 1 of the 2 pieces came out medium. The rest of the party loved their meal: halibut and a pasta dish. I would go back just for the bone marrow, which was the best I have ever had. "

  • "I went with three friends for Easter Brunch and their prix fixe menu offered at $35/person. Overall the food was average and nothing special. My choice of bread pudding french bread was very nice, but the other three dishes, an (overcooked) omelete, scrambled eggs, and spaghetti carbonara were all unremarkable. The home made pastries were however quite delicious and special. Two of the four ordered a glass of chardonnay which I discovered were $19/glass when I received the bill. No problem had we known before ordering and made the choice. In the end we had what we considered a very average brunch which cost $249 for four (total of three alcoholic beverages-Bloody Mary in addition to the two aforementioned wines) including the tip. "

  • "Went to Ripple because it has been nominated for three Rammy's and was not disappointed. The cheese and charcuterie were absolutely amazing. Our waiter had great knowledge of the wine list and provided marvelous suggestions. We had two bottle of wine and one bottle of the Proseco which was incredibly good. The only downside was that by dessert the restaurant was so full that it took forever to get the menu and therefore we passed on it. My suggestion is that you go to Ripple now before they wine the Rammy for best wine list, they definitely should, by then it will be impossible to get a reservation"

  • "Everything was good. Upon arrival, the host told us our table was reserved in the dining room but since they had a table available up front with a view for people watching, they offered that and let us choose. A waiter other than our own offered great wine recommendations and let us taste before buying a glass. Cocktails were fun too. Staff were helpful, friendly, and attentive, and food was divine. Get the duck!!"

  • "It took forever to get the "snacks" and then some for a piece of bread. I got the NY strip cooked medium which was more like medium well, brown and dry. The waitress came and asked how the food was. I mentioned it was not served how I ordered it. She argued with me and did nothing. I expect more for $100 per person. The service was lousy all around. I will never return. "

  • "I picked this Washingtonian's Top 100 because it was near the Omni where my "foodie" cousin was staying. Ripple is in an urban "strip mall." That's ok but the interior did little to lift the ambiance beyond acceptable. Of the 25 beers on the list, I did not recognize a single one. Perhaps heaven for a mirco brew fan, but how about at least one ( a Stella or Sam Adams) that the rest of us might know we like? I had to send back my pork with spatzele. WAY too salty. To her credit, the manager apologized. Also, there was no sauce & the spatzele and other things mentioned on the menu were really no more than a garnish -- not a portion to eat. The substitute halibut (my cousin's choice) was fine but nothing memorable. I will not return."
