Diner Reviews
  • "The food was fresh and tasty but the service was horrible! There we're just a few occupied tables at lunch and I had to wave wave wave, walk to the server multiple times to ask for bowls, more dishes, drinks, hot sauce (asked 4x) We sat there forever before anyone asked what we wanted...etc, etc, etc. too bad because the food is really good...once you get it....THEN.....because the party we had had 6+... The tip was included! Lame"

  • "Arrive before 7 p.m., and start your evening at the bar with happy hour -- half price cocktails and small plates -- then move into the dining room for a delicious, unrushed meal. The dishes are authentic and well-seasoned. You won't find this menu anywhere else. Highly recommend."

  • "The food was excellent, and the service was great as usual."

  • "Went here with my husband for my birthday. Mango sangria was excellent. We ordered all the small plates. Food came fast and was hot. Grilled octopus was the best!"

  • "We adults (4) wanted to try the argentine food, but the preteen kids weren't thrilled with unfamiliar choices. Our waiter saves the evening by suggesting a sampling of small plates. All of us had a great time trying different dishes. Even the picky kids found several things the liked! We especially liked the steak and the cevechi sampler! And the flan was to die for! We definitely will come again!"

  • "It was a quite nite so it wasn't loud. the one drawl back is it could be a loud space. staff and dinner (wine too) was spot on "

  • "The Bartender was fantastically friendly and gave good recommendations. Then it was time to go into the dining area. Live music bongo drums were too loud. The servers were impatient. The food was not sequenced with some coming out cold. What came out correctly is good. They need to explain their menu better. There's great potential for the small family run restaurant with better organization. The music needs to reflect the ethnicity of the restaurant food."

  • "That's about it. Seiche was good and the Tres Leches for desert. Rest is fair. Didn't have bottled flat water. The service was superb."

  • "Rio Mar is a great place to go for tapas, small plates, and Spanish cuisine with a New Orleans flair!"

  • "Great food, excellent wine selection and great service and the price was very reasonable. Try the Mussels and Grilled Shrimp Finish with the Gauva Cheese Cake"

  • "We had the Chef's Tasting Menu, which was really incredible. We got to try all of the appetizers and the ceviches, ordered and entree and had tastes of all of the desserts. It was all incredible. I really love that it is not the quintessential Southern restaurant. In an area of hotels, with visitors from other places, it is perfectly placed to give you the opportunity to enjoy really well prepared food from a different place. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

  • "Lovely restaurant with an easy feel to it. Not too busy on an early Thursday. They make their own sangria and my mango sangria was perfect. Husband had the pork which was a huge serving and melt in your mouth. My scallops were cooked perfectly. Wait staff were great as well."

  • "Rio Mar continues to be one of our favorite spots in New Orleans. The seafood with a spanish overlay is excellent. We also enjoy the wines of Spain. We have found the wait staff knowledgable and accommodating. Rio Mar is on our repeat list for our annual trip to the Jazzfest. "

  • "The gambas with mole and fish with coconut were excellent. The chef came to our table and explained how they make the chocolate mole sauce, which was delicious!"

  • "Short notice reservation with three childern and three adults that act like childern. Service was great the food is wonderful and they didn't try to stick us in a back corner with the kids."

  • "Specials were indeed special--new fresh tastes combining elements not experienced elsewhere. Didn't order dessert but after conversation with hostess she gave us a sample of one particular dessert. It was amazing. Only one of the four of us were going to try it but we all ended up eating a share of it"

    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "The wait staff was so INCREDIBLE rude that not only will I never return but I will tell all our friends to never go here. I'm in utter shock with how rude they were. Probably the worst in the entire city of New Orleans."

  • "I have eaten at Rio Mar several times and it has an interesting menu. However, on this particurlar trip, we were very disapponted with the way we were met upon arrival. We were about 10 minues early and the resturant was less than 50% full. We asked if we could be seated and were told no. When we challenged the hostess as to why not, it got confrontational. The last thing Rio Mar should want is a bad experience immediately upon enering the restaurant. Ruined the rest of the evening."

  • "Haven't been to this restaurant in quite a while. In the past it was difficult to find parking in the area, but no they have valet parking, albeit at $10, but that's acceptable. The food is quite different but quite good. My group enjoyed the Iberian Ham, Empanadas, Papusas as well as soup & salads. Waitress was very knowledgeable and very efficient. Look forward to a return visit."

  • "The hostess refused to seat us until the 9th member of our party arrived, even with a reservation. This was not the case for another big party. When I said that he was just parking the car she said they had valet. A few minutes later the valet podium and sign were schlepped out the door to be set up. Around 6:45. Hmm.. What a shame to start off with such a foul taste in our mouths. Every one was given a drink menu. No food menu until well after the drink orders were taken. We felt like we were being manipulated into ordering drinks. The food was good to fair, table service fine. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu. Too noisy. Didn't bother with dessert. Needless to say we're not going back. There are too many much better places to eat."

  • "Overall the service was outstanding and attentive, the drinks fabulous and creative, and the ambiance pleasant. We ordered several specials and tapas for the table, and a variety of large and small plates for entrees. My best advice would be to come prepared to order an app, small plate, large plate, and salad or desert to feel satisfied."

  • "This once great restaurant is now a convention stop, nothing more. On Friday night, we were the only people in the place. When I asked where everyone was, the waiter replied, "there are no conventions in town". In a city filled with great restaurants, this place is plain terrible. Three people, 200.00 with tip and everything was bad from start to finish. As a local, I am begging you, STAY AWAY. Adolfo Garcia sd his interest, and the food went with him. Not one good thing to say about this place at all. I am shocked at the other reviews here."
