Diner Reviews
  • "Sat on the patio, got splashed by the fountain and the salsa BURNED!!!"

  • "Overall I would say it was okay. Service needs help though. The host and hostest were great, but not only our server but others seemed annoyed to be helping diners. Ours especially. The drinks were great, which is why we went there (it was recommended). The prickly pear margarita was awesome."

  • "Had 11 people coming in from out of town for dinner. This restaurant was great -- with a comfortable and friendly ambiance, and delicious food. The wait persons were fast, friendly, and helpful. The cook was extra flexible, as one person was vegan (and they received a special dish just for them). Highly recommend for a fun and tasty evening out with business colleagues and/or friends!"

  • "This one server always seems to forget us when we go. This time we had a big party and it was quite noticeable."

  • "Stay away from the house marg. the lime mixer they use was awful, other drinks we had and food very good. Great place to eat before a ballgame."

  • "IGNORE HYPE & AVOID THIS PLACE. Food has been terrible on multiple visits. Mgmt & Hostess always have attitude & treat u like it is a privilege for them to accommodate you. If u r 10-15 min late, u will be "removed" from reservation system. This place makes all of its money off of "commercial mix" margaritas served in volume on the patio. If you want to wait 1/2 - 1 hour to sit on a patio and have a few overpriced drinks, this is the place as long as you can tolerate staff w/ attitude. However, if you want good service, good Mexican food and no attitude, go to D'Corazon across the street, Tamayo one block away or La Loma. Too bad because the patio could be a great draw and other Rio restaurants are good. Maybe they just need new management."

  • "Everything on the menu is delicious...we have tried several things and are never disappointed!"

  • "We made reservations for this restaurant before a baseball game then learned it is part of the "chain" of the same name. We were happily surprised that the food service and atmosphere were all so much better than the other Rio Grande we'd been to. So even though it is a chain, it doesn't have a chain feel. Loved the weekend brunch options on the menu. Sat indoors, but the huge doors to the patio were open so we felt like we were outside but without the street noise or the sun in our face. We'll be back."

  • "Outstanding Margaritas. Fun atmosphere. I had Tequila Shrimp, which was really good. My friend had Chili Rellenos, also good. "

  • "The Rio is turning into one of my favorite places. The food is consistently good and I love the mango margaritas. Offering a mini margarita is so smart, thank you for doing that! I will be back here many many more times!"

  • "Good food and atmosphere. Made reservations on line, table was ready, great server then to Pepsi Center for a concert. Perfect location between our hotel and the event center."

  • "Great Fajitas and margaritas! Lively bar scene during happy hour, we arrived for dinner with a reservation and the place was full. Glad we booked ahead of time! Nice place one block off 16th street mall."

  • "A Denver institution. The service is always excellent & the food is solid. Can get crowded at popular times. The patio in spring/summer/fall is the place to be."

  • "We went to The Rio for drinks and food before the Avs vs. Blackhawks hockey game. The service needed to be fast for us to make the puck drop and fortunately it was! The drinks were delicious and the waiter was very nice. I think the food is good, but nothing extraordinary. Really enjoyed the energetic atmosphere and the nice staff."

  • "The food was unimpressive, especially considering the reviews I read when deciding to dine there. I made reservations and still had to wait when my group arrived. The margaritas were small and decent but not great. My flautas were over-fried and the portions were small. Our waiter didn't provide us with enough water and was inattenetive. Our wait for food was an hour long. Our chips and salsa were not replenished, nor were our drinks."

  • "This is by far, the best Tex-Mex Restaurant in CO...and we're from Texas. Additionially, our server deserves a "Good Samaritan" award after he ran outside to deliver our childrens' 3 iPads left behind. Thank you for being delicious, kid friendly and honest."

  • "Good food, not to pricey. Margiritas is what this place is known for. Had a couple with dinner. Service was great only complaint is that I wasn't asked which fajita plate I wanted. I would have ordered the larger plate. The restrauant has a nice feel, typical Mexican restrauant decorated but not overly done or tacky. Extremely loud. I could not hear the people across the table from me, but I could definitely hear the table of intoxicated hipsters 4 tables away."

  • "I love the Rio! Tequila shrimp tacos and a strawberry margarita hit the spot!"
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "Service was poor since the restaurant was overcrowded and understaffed. The water they served was tap water at room temperature...no water bottles are sold. I usually visit Rio Grande in Highlands Ranch which is a lot better...better atmosphere and service. This time, however, I met with some friends at this location due to other plans we had the city afterwards."

  • "We had a great meal and enjoyed the margaritas. Our waiter was very friendly and the food came out quick. The chips and queso are wonderful."

  • "We made a reservation through open table and got in within a few minutes of our reservation. It was very busy and the crowd was energetic. The tacos were fantastic and the margaritas were outstanding. Will bring friends next time!"

  • "I had a wonderful time at to. Food and margaritas were outstanding! Had a reservation that didn't seem to matter much still had to wait a long time for a table even though there were open ones. Overall a good experience though."

  • "Picked it for New Year's Eve as a date place. It is noisy in the front room, but the margaritas are worth it. The guacamole is one of the best in Colorado. They have a room in the back that is less noisy, but it is not open until after 5 pm. We also go to the park meadows location, but Blake street is more fun. Food is good at both places. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. The women at the check in desk also represent the restaurant well. The Rio Salad with grilled shrimp is my favorite."

  • "We had a large group meet here for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Our table was ready, service was fast, friendly, and attentive, food as always was delicious. And without even asking, the birthday girl got a special drink. We'll definitely come here again! Loved it."

  • "Great place and promot service. Margaritas just as good as always!"

  • "The Rio has long been one of our favorites for great margaritas and Mexican food. Initially we were seated upstairs this time and did not like the ambiance at all. It was too loud and crowded. We waited to be re-seated downstairs and it was worth the extra wait! If making reservations through their website means you'll be seated upstairs, I highly recommend just getting there and putting your name in and waiting! As usual, though, it was a great place, with great food & great service!"

  • "Good food, but kinda noisy. We took my parents to dinner and it was too cold to sit on the patio outside so we had to yell a bit to be heard. The salsa and chips are excellent, served warm and the homemade tortillas were wonderful."

  • "This is a great place to have dinner just before a show in Denver! They were friendly, efficient and the food was very tasty. They even had the perfect portion size."
    Dined on 10/5/2013
  • "Our first time at Rio. We had a group of 10. We made reservations via open table and our table was ready and ontime! Most of our group had been before. The margaritas are very good! A little loud for my liking. Waitress was pretty good. Had to ask a couple of times where our drinks were. The food was great. Guacamole was okay. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Ordered the Fajitas. Was expecting a sizzling juicy plate but got lukewarm and semi dried out chicken. Waiter said they don't serve it sizzling but would bring me out a hotter plate after I picked up the lukewarm chicken in my hands for him. Next plate was just as poor. The waiter could only apologize. Don't order the Fajitas. You'll be disappointed."

  • "Food and drinks were great. Our server was cute and fun, the hostess was rude and ignored us for a while when we got in, but everything else was great."
    Dined on 9/14/2013
  • "We went in earlier than our reservation and they got us in right a way. The food was good but the server needed a lot of help. Don't know if he was new or not but was kind of "all over the place". Was not impress with him at all. I would go back because there wasn't anything wrong with the food or location that was good. Friendly staff."

  • "I love going to The Rio Grande, it is always an awesome experience. I had reserved a table for 20 and found out last minute that i needed another table, the hostess was kind enough to accommodate my late request. The food was great as were the drinks. Great atmosphere. Overall a great experience."

  • "My wife loves patio dining--truth be told, so do I. This place has a nice patio, great food and really good service. Our friends brought us here for the margaritas which were good, but not great (by Hacienda Colorado standards). The food was fresh and the salsa was just the right spiciness. We'll be back!"

  • "I've had two groups at the Rio Grande this month for dinner. Everyone enjoyed the margaritas and the food. They have great quacamole and queso to get the group started too. I look forward to sitting on the patio some time, but both groups were large enough that they seated us upstairs. The service was great. The only downside - upstairs can get very noisy, especially when several groups are up there celebrating, so it can be a challege to hear people talking. The group enjoyed and the price was reasonable."
