  • "Finally found the best margaritas and fajitas in the desert! Server named Yoli is wonderful and so glad we tried something new instead of the old stand-by Mexican restaurants that continuously disappoint everyone. Great job Rio Azul!"

  • "waited and waited and waited for a server. had a 2 year with us that only has so much patience. Food was good, could use a little more seasoning. When we added salt/pepper much better."

  • "I love to eat at Rio Azul when vacationing in Palm Springs. Having lived in Texas, California and now in Vermont, I have a real need for good Mexican food and this restaurant always satisfies. Excellent table side guacamole, fresh salsa with the right amount of heat, tasty margaritas and delicious main courses including chile verde, carnitas, enchiladas and poblano relleno. No room for dessert and always a bargain when the check arrives. I will be back next trip!"

  • "The food at Rio Azul is amazing..very fresh and with wonderful flavors. We enjoyed the yellow pepper appetizer stuffed with vegetables and shrimp, the chicken enchiladas and of course the house margaritas. Service was very prompt and attentive, and we were brought a basket of tacos with fresh salsa as soon as we sat down, along with iced waters. The atmosphere felt authentic and it was busy on a Sunday night, always a good sign. All in all, we can highly recommend Rio Azul and will definitely return."

  • "Our party of 6 needed to find a place for lunch during a conference. It had to be convenient and taste good. A search on my smartphone found Rio Azul. Their reviews and ability to take reservations for lunch sealed our decision. Initial impression, the restaurant was empty. But we were welcomed in and seated immediately. Our drink orders were taken and chips and the salsa were brought over while we read the menu. The salsa was so fresh tasting with the right amount of spice. They do a salt chile rim on your margarita that is so different and good! My fish tacos were some of the best that I have ever had. Our server Dani was amazing! She was friendly and took great care of us and brought separate checks without us asking. Fabulous place!"

  • "Our party of four arrived as a huge party of 40 people had been served and were finishing dinner. We understood when service was a little slow, but the large party all left, and we were still waiting for more than chips to appear at our table. Finally, after over 50 minutes most of our order arrived. The food was very good, and we all enjoyed our meal. We agreed that we would give the restaurant another try based on the delicious food, but if service did not improve, it would be our last visit. As we won't be in Palm Springs again until 2015' Rio Azul has plenty of time to continue perfecting their excellent dishes, and to get their service in order."

  • "Rio Azul is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Palm Springs. The food is fresh and very authentic Mexican. The service is always good. And the margaritas are good!!"
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "One of the best Mexican dinners I've ever experienced! The menu consists of traditional dishes that you might find in any Mexican restaurant. However, they put their own twist into most dishes, creating wonderful flavor combinations. This is definitely a step above your everyday Mexican food joint."

  • "A wonderful restaurant off the beaten path in Palm Springs within walking distance if you are staying at Hilton. Margaritas were excellent and very reasonable priced. Try the pomegranate! Food very good and service very good. We sat outside and enjoyed the Palm Springs weather."

  • "Rio Azul has the best Mexican food in the Coachella Valley bar none."

  • "Food was good, but not the best Mexican we have had. Service was on and off and the restaurant was not that busy. We would go back and try the place again, but there are so many nice Mexican restaurants in the area. You need to be top notch the first time around for diners to return and unfortunately, Rio Azul was not. Perhaps it was an off night for the restaurant, but my pork dish was dry and overcooked. The steak fajitas and fish dish that my friends had were good and we loved the margaritas."

  • "Rio Azul is a small-ish place with a bit of outdoor seating, and a very rustic style to it inside. I really like their food. They have a great balance of 'traditional mexican fare', like you'd see anywhere else, they also have some very unique seafood and specialty dishes that make for a nice selection. Their margaritas are very good, and they have table-side guacamole that is wonderfully fresh. I also love their salsa, as it too is made with fresh vegetables and spices. Only criticism I have for the place is that, depending how busy they are, or how large a party you have, they can be a little slow on service. Friendly, but slow. Still worth the trip though!"

  • "Usually very good, this time they were not at the top of their game with good, service, etc."

  • "We must always go on a bad night. This was the third time and the food was bland/bad (again): the beef in the enchilada was nearly burnt and the refried beans had been cooked so long it was like baby food and completely tasteless. I will say the soup was very good. The waitress was very busy and had too many tables and the two hostesses (1-new) appeared to be arguing the whole time. I don't think we will try going back for a long time. It has yet to be worth it."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "The food was decent, but not outstanding. The margaritas were excellent, and that compensates for the lackluster food."

  • "Rio Azul cooks with all fresh ingredients and has great food, all of the time. They have excellent margaritas, as well. It's definitely the best Mexican food in Palm Springs."

  • "This was our second visit to Rio Azul, and it was every bit as enjoyable as the first time. From the custom salt concoction rimming the margarita glasses to the yummy guacamole made fresh table side to the delicious entrees, this is a great dining experience.. Don't let the kitschy decor dissuade you - this is muy tasty, authentic Mexican cuisine, at very reasonable prices. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, although both times we visited, the server had to be reminded about our guacamole order (entrees came out first)."

  • "we had a group of 18 and didn't want for anything. drinks and food came in a timely manner despite multiple orders and moving around on our part. They did a couple specialty shrimp orders for our group that were divine! Thank you to the staff and chef!"

  • "We were looking for Mexican food and wanted to go somewhere downtown PS and wanted to avoid the over hyped places. Rio Azul was perfect! Everything was extremely tasty - enchiladas, carnitas (my husband said it was one of the best ever and he orders this frequently), burrito and tacos. The salsa was superb. Our only suggestion would be that they also offer a less "heated" one for those that just can't take a spicy salsa."

  • "Great place to get Mexican food. Try the chicken enchiladas or the bacon wrapped shrimp.. Friendly service, good Margaritas too. This is one of our favorites on Friday nights. Good weekend brunch too -- yummy huevos rancheros."

  • "There is no doubt that most of the ingredients they are using are fresh. You can taste it. However, I was not pleased with what they served for re-fried beans, it was more of a mush no actual beans visible. I was wondering is this Mexican hummus? I had the three item combo. Each item was good, but I found nothing spectacular about any of them that would bring me back."

  • "Been here about five times - first time via Open Table. It's been several months since we went last. Ordered something different each time. Each time thinking "eh, it's okay." Nothing to rave about. The rice was dried out and - obviously - reheated several times. Our waiter appeared sullen and acted as if he just tolerated us. We did notice that the place was almost empty (and it was a Friday night) when it used to be rather crowded. A BIG disappointment was in the margaritas. They were definitely watered-down. A schooner of it used to give me a buzz by the third sip (I'm a lightweight). Finished it completely without feeling anything! Is this place in trouble? Maybe. It certainly isn't worth going back."
