Diner Reviews
  • "Weekends are fun with great live music. Check their schedule."

  • "We invited a friend who was celebrating her birthday and she loved the whole experience. Nelson gave us prompt, warm service. The manager checked on us to ensure we were comfortable and happy. The complimentary birthday treat at the end was a generous surprise that Nelson happily presented. It was the perfect place to celebrate friends, food, fun and a birthday. A big thank you!"

  • "We ate the special 3 course meal and both of us were very pleased with our dishes and the way they were prepared. We did the three course meal for $24.95 and both of us liked our food. My only thumbs down was the portion of the salmon I ordered. It was tiny but after we finished we both agreed it was enough overall. I hope if you ordered the salmon off the menu you would get a much larger portion. But the fish was perfectly cooked not overdone which typically happens in a lot of restaurant kitchens."

  • "We had to ask our server, more than once, for the bread we wanted instead of the cornbread. When the band started playing it was almost impossible to speak to each other because it was much too loud for the room!"

  • "This is a great place to have a celebration or a casual party. The staff is very attentive and respectful. We had Nelson's help and service to cap this top flight night."

  • "Rickey's is close to Novato Theater Company and is an excellent venue for pre-theater dining. The service is efficient, the food is healthy (both small portion and normal portion menus with added advantages like gluten free)."

  • "For the price of the meal -- rib steak -- the portions were undersized and more like half-cuts."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Not a usual problem but in this case waiter service was poor which appeared to be due to overwork. Sub waiter service was good. Consider reducing music volume."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "The food and service were very good. But I went to hear the music which is difficult to hear over the din in the dining room. Would return to eat there but not to go for the music."

  • "Our experience at Rickey's: friendly server, tasty entrees, delicious chocolate martini. The fried calamari was a bit tough; the sauces were good. The Caesar salad was quite ordinary, and the lettuce had that bagged lettuce taste. The Shrimp and Polenta entree with its flavorful wine sauce and chunky tomatoes, shallots and garlic was excellent. My husband had the Wagyu Beef and Black Truffle Ravioli, which he found very flavorful. To finish the meal, I had their chocolate martini, which was one of the best I have ever had. Overall, it was a good experience. We will return"

  • "This has become our go to "last night back to college" dinner. Our daughter always requests we send her back to college with a dinner at Rickey's. The food and service is absolutely exceptional!"

  • "Definitely make a reservation if you plan to dine on Friday or Saturday evening. Definitely have a cocktail at the bar! Don't be afraid to ask how something is prepared as the wait staff are more than happy to ask the chef."

  • "A neighborhood gem that we've passed time after time again. A well run family restaurant with a motel attached. Poolside dining optional. Live music Fridays, Saturdays, and, Sundays. Great Food and a Happy Hour to boot!"

  • "The restaraunt was busy early, perhaps becuase of the start of daylight saving time, but we had reservations with a wonderful booth waiting as we arrived. The evening proceeded at a very comfortable pace. The staff was a ballet of activity and so well coordinated that their work was complimentary and unobtrusive."

  • "Friday night is jazz music. Music too loud. Sitting across room and still could not talk to person next to you. Requested they turn amplifiers down and they did but not enough."

  • "We ate at Rickeys many years back. We re-visited it again, twice now in the last few weeks. The service, food, ambience are all wonderful. Nice, pleasant ,employees. Charming dining area. Music on weekends! Good food.....served while still hot.....beautiful presentation. Glad that we are only an easy 20 min drive. Now my husband's favorite place!"

  • "The ambience is outstanding. Beamed high vaulted ceiling; stone faced fireplace. Excellent food and wait service. Very quiet. Had plenty of time to sit and enjoy meal as with others. Not rushed. Ordered from their fixed price dinner. Several excellent choices. A very nice evening out with a lady friend."

  • "We've been here twice now for dinner as a group of 4 and everything has always been great. They have a very nice 3-course dinner that includes a glass of wine for $24. We've had main course salads, steak, the hamburger, and the portabello mushroom dish. The bread pudding and creme brulee were delicious. One time when we were there, there was a singer. The singer was good, but it made it somewhat difficult to talk. When there's not live entertainment, it's a relatively quiet place. The service was attentive, but not overbearing (just the way I like it)."

  • "Six of us met for a very enjoyable dinner. We all had the fixed prix meal which included soup or salad, an entree, dessert, and a glass of wine. We were all very happy with our meals, and the restaurant let us stay and visit until closing time. We will definitely be back!!"

  • "Took our son for his 28th birthday. There were 10 of us. The server, Nelson, was great. The three course menu was enjoyed by five of our party. They treated my son to a birthday surprise. Not expected; but greatly appreciated. Prices are great. Proportions great. No one left the table hungry or disappointed."

  • "Good food, very good mixed drinks. I love that there was a full page menu of smaller plate options that were a perfect dinner size portion. Presentation was excellent. Very nice dining experience."

  • "We found our table ready for us and we were pleased to have Nelson helping us with our service and selections. The manager opened our wine and talked with us about our new year. We felt quite welcomed. Top experience, first rate service, excellent food."

  • "The whole dining experience has been vastly improved with this lovely new dining room. Filled with dark wood and very comfortable chairs, you can immediately sense that the restaurant has changed. We sat in front of the vast fireplace and were pleasantly surprised with the many choices on the menu. From beef, chicken and fish, there were also salads and burgers. We enjoyed pork chops, steak and chicken offerings. Desserts were also delicious. The service was very good and I would definitaly go back."

  • "We had dinner here on Sunday (after the 49er's loss to Seattle (sigh)). As usual the service was excellent thanks to Nelson. The food was great. My wife had the seared Ahi and I had the Cobb Salad (with chicken). Sunday's are fun because all bottles wine are half price. We dine here about once every month or so and really enjoy it. In the summer you can dine around the pool outside. There's Jazz on weekends year round."

  • "Rickey's is trying to be an upscale restaurant, but finesse is lacking. The honey mustard dressing on the asparagus salad was too heavy-handed. The crab mini-tacos & mini crabcakes were delicious, but were quite tiny for the price. The apple crisp had a gluey topping, & came with a totally unnecessary chocolate sauce. Thank goodness I got the sauce on the side, because it looked & tasted like Hershey's syrup - a complete no-no in my book for a nice restaurant. For the price, you'll have a much better experience at Boca Tavern or Boca Pizzeria, both just a block away."

  • "Four of us celebrated a birthday for dinner. We all chose the "small plates". Filet and portabello entres were good, but the scallops (2 of us ordered them) was not very good. Scallops VERY small only 2 (as mentioned on the menu) 2 is fine, but these were really small. The polenta was not very good....I did not eat mine, so I had 2 small scallops and three spears of asparagus for my entre. i think the cost was somewhere around $17.50? We drove from Petaluma and chose Rickeys for our celebration based on a prior good experience....unfortunately, we will not return price of food went WAYYY up as well. Everything else about our experience was excellent! What a shame..... Regards, Molly Schmies"

  • "Service is always friendly and welcoming. I mostly have the "Rickey's ahi" which is delicious. The salmon is also very good. Happy hour is good with reduced drink prices and small bar plates. Entertainment on weekends. Nice atmosphere with fireplace. Large parking lot. "Rickey's club" membership (free) is a great deal which gives you points for redeeming credit on future dining. It adds up quickly. We are frequent diners at Rickey's."

  • "We returned to Rickey's to dine with friends from our old neighborhood. We moved away in 2012. We had a great time and everyone loved the food, especially the Petite Filet. We seniors love the smaller portions you offer. The music on Saturday night was also very good, but it was pretty hard for us to hear one another because some of us wear hearing aids."

  • "Food had no flavor, steak was overdone, veggies were cold, soup tasted like it was water downed. It has been years since I have eaten at Rickey's cuz the food was so bad and since I saw Diner's Choice Winner 2013 I thought it had improved. I guess anyone can have diner's choice winner on their website...so disappointing!!! At first I was going to send the steak back and ask for another but the waiter never came by to see how my meal was and by the time our plates were going to be removed, I wasn't hungry anymore. Manager did the right thing and didn't charge me for my steak."

  • "After thouroughly enjoying a recent dining experience, we made reservations about 1 1/2 weeks in advance. We were seated by the front door and even though it was ok on the previous occasion due the fact it was so busy this time it significantly took away from the ambience/experience. People were actually leaning against my chair. This is our only complaint. The wait staff were attentive, keeping our water glasses full with no lengthy waiting between courses. Cornbread flavorful and moist, the Baby Back BBQ Pork Ribs were meaty, moist and spicey. The Wagyu Beef and Black Truffle Ravioli cooked to perfection and flavorful. Sadly we were too full to try their desserts."
