    Overall solid food. Our server forgot to put in our orders of the sardine chips and mushroom donuts, so our entrees arrived first. She asked us if we wanted to cancel our appetizers, which would have been a huge loss because they were the best part of the meal. That said, the gentleman host handling the reservations was really nice and came to check with us afterwards that we had enjoyed our meal.

    You must try the tasting menu. For $85, its great value (you get most of the apps plus four more courses). I've never been stuffed from a tasting menu. Ever. Until now. And everything was delicious. The octopus, braised overnight, was phenomenal, seriously mind-blowing. Think the texture of a luscious piece of perfectly cooked fish or pork. If octopus was prepared like this everywhere, it would go extinct. The porcini donuts were decadent. NY strip was seared perfectly (barely med-rare, just as it should be). Definitely going back soon (if I can get a reservation).

    First, Rich Table is an outstanding culinary experience which will impress any discerning foodie. All of the ingredients were of the finest quality and offered the kind of pleasant surprises that make a dinner memorable. The staff were all friendly, highly experienced and well versed in every aspect of food and beverage. The only downside here (and its not the restaurant's fault) is the typical mob scene that accompanies every Bay Area hotspot. Advance reservations are essential unless you want to eat at 5:30 or after 10. Drop ins typically require a 2 hour wait. The food is great and priced accordingly. If you can put up with the wait and the cost, this is well worth a visit.

    So first, yes, reserve in advance. Like, a lot in advance. We got a 9h45 table on a Monday night, was still immensely worth the timeframe. The menu is inventive and inspiring, everything so fresh...a real delight. One should not go about SF, especially as a visitor like we were, and not go there. Period.

    When you are willing to wait a long time to land the perfect reservation, when you've read a handful of Bauer's reviews about this smart chef couple, when you take a great date and are ready for great food, service and ambiance - and you get all three - then you've experienced Rich Table. I can't wait to return to enjoy more outstanding food. Loved it.

    Another Hot Place to dine. if you are in shorts and don't mind smelling a little like the food. Come on in the service is very good and food is good Many of the places we have been in this trip have the open kitchen but most are not pulling off the balance of a 70 degree dinning area while venting food odor. open a window and I'll come back.

    Excellent food, worth the hype. As mentioned before, sardine chips and porcini donuts are standouts. The burrata/beet/onion crumble appetizer was divine. I had the scallops as my entree and they were superb. We were a party of five and waited a tad too long for our entrees, but that's OK. Our server was fantastic, very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and not stuffy. I'd go back more often if I could get in!

    We had a wonderful dinner. My girlfriend is vegan. The server was super attentive, and the chef very accommodating, giving us a number of options. Everything was super tasty and fresh. They have some interesting wines, even by the glass. With seating up to 10:30pm on weekends, it can work after a show. Although when we went, they were out of a few things by then.

    The food was really amazing and we all understand why it is top rated. Beautiful presentation, complex layers of flavor with unexpected combinations of ingredients. The service was spot on and some of the best in SF. I recommend to all my closest friends. It was worth booking the reservation one month to the day.

    Our dining experience was nothing short of fantastic. The sardines with chips were perfection. We placed a second order for them. Himache tartare was fresh and an amazing balance of flavors. I had never imagined the tagliatelle bolognese with strawberries would be so delicious! It was delicate and so flavorful. Glad I took the chance as I usually don't like sweet and salty. Simone the bartender was friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to interact with. If you live in or are visiting SF is a must.

    We were thrilled to finally have a reservation!! We love food and we eat out a lot! Yet, Rich Table we found was trying too hard to serve it all...We did the chef set price deal; 85 dollars a person, and everyone at the table had to do it/and did it!! It was so much different kind of food, and so many different flavors and textures your pallet and your mind could not follow. Nothing had anything to do with anything; simply a bunch a all sorts!! And if was NOT all GOOD :( We were 4 people eating with beer and wine, and 600 dollars later it was NOT WORTH IT!!! The hostess was so sweet and very kind, i did feel a bit sad for her she had to serve us this not so very good food. Too much talk, and too many people swarming around your table!!!!

    Unfortunately we picked a rare 90 degree night in San Francisco to check it out. They did not have air conditioning which made it a bit uncomfortable inside. That being said, the food and service were great. We did the chefs tasting menu which was awesome! Well worth checking out!

    We got the Chef's Picks menu for our anniversary dinner and it was delish. We brought a special bottle of wine and the corkage was $30 (they waive the corkage, if you buy a second bottle from them), which added to the enjoyment of the meal (not sure i would splurge to do the wine tasting, otherwise). The "Bites" course basically covered almost every "bite" on the menu, plus those off-menu with tiny 2-person portions. Then we got Seafood, Pasta and Steak and two desserts. I enjoyed that they sometimes gave my husband and i different meals in each course, so that essentially you could try double the tastes. Overall, we sat at 7:45pm and left just after 10pm, so it does take time, but they time it out perfectly for your enjoyment.

    All the items are heavily manipulated by a somtimes-clumsy crowd of line cooks in plain sight near the back of the restaurant. Many of the savory items are unpleasantly sweet and cloying like duck ravioli with honey and lavender or a really high-fructose onion soup with chopped plums.

    I walked past this restaurant on my way to another in Hayes Valley and made a reservation simply because I liked the layout and vibe of the restaurant, and I'm happy to say that the food was excellent. All the pastas are great, but what really stood out was both the salmon and the duck entrees.

    we booked a table at 10pm and arrived at 10. it seemed like the kitchen was in process of shutting down,we were given the menus and within a minute the hostess was at the table asking for our order,we asked for our drinks and even before the drinks were served, there she was again asking us what we want to order. she wouldn't leave without taking the order and we were rushed again.she served the drinks,we were in a middle of a conversation when food was served and the rude hostess interrupted us by raising her voice and started describing the dishes.same attitude for desert. if this restaurant isn't comfortable for serving a 10pm reservation they should adjust their advertised timing.she was short of chewing our food for us to get rid of us

    Had an interesting and wonderful meal this week. Lovely window table for two. Special made vodka cocktail with St. Germaine, grapefruit, etc. that was not on menu - just for me! Service could bot have been better. Casual yet informed and attentive, but not hovering. Simply beautiful handmade pasta. Hamachi/cucumber/melon was stunning!

    Delicious. A "fine dining" experience minus the fancy ambiance. I love that this place is casual and the food is incredible. Do not go with somone you need to get to know -- it's very loud! But the dining experience is better than State Bird Provisions, a raved about Michelin stars restaurant. And my H and and even compared it to French Laundry. And yes, we think Rich Table comes close. Order the Chef's Tasting, $85/pp. You will not be disappointed. I loved the sardine chips, roasted corn, local halibut tartare, garganelli roasted squash, and main scallops. I also love that the owners are a husband and wife team. We will absolutely be back to Rich Table!

    My husband and I came here with our parents on a Monday night. The place was packed and the reservation was running a little behind. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and music. However, the place was REALLY hot. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers, food and deserts. The best entree was the salmon, as it was very fresh and cooked to perfection. The handmade pasta was delicious, but there were a lot of berries in the bolognese sauce. If we ever visited San Francisco again, we would definitely consider coming back.

    Out of nowhere a fabulous restaurant experience lands on us. Rich Table blew us away. From its humble, yet deliberate decor a truly regal dining experience was had. The service attentive and made us feel welcome. The star was the sea urchin... Butter from the sea. We'll be back!

    Had an enjoyable evening at Rich Table, with the Chef's tasting for two. And compared to other tastings, this one really gives you good portion sizes for the price. The appetizers and pastas were particularly inventive, if somewhat heavy (fried sardine chips, fried porcini doughnut, heavy cream sauces, etc). The main courses (fish and meat) were standard but well-prepared. Desserts were too sweet for my liking, but to each their own. Overall, many American diners are likely to be very satisfied here, though if you are a person who prefers lighter fare with brighter flavors, skip the Chef's tasting and simply order the dishes that appeal.

    I have been wanting to eat here for quite a while. It was everything I had hoped! Everything that came to the table was great! Seasoned, cooked, and presented right! The most important and appreciable element of the night was that we did not feel pressured to order, eat and leave! We were there for nearly two hours, and we had a great time with my nephew and girlfriend that we hadn't seen in a couple of years!

    Go to Rich Table with someone you don't need to talk to because the noise level is so high and the music so loud that conversations are difficult. The food and service on the other hand are outstanding. Although I did not have any dish that blew me away, everything was creative and delicious. The dried porcini doughnuts are very popular; they're crispy and delicious on the outside, but perhaps a little doughy on the inside. I only had small plates, but some of the larger dishes served around me looked delicious-salmon, scallops, or skirt steak. Do save room for desert; both the roasted plots and panacotta were worth the calories! The ambience is due entirely to the clientele because Ther is essentially no attempt to decorate.

    Sardine chips and corn a la plancha were excellent. Beef tartare was good as well. Papardelle dish was a bit bland and too tangy. The scallops had grit on them, were not properly cleaned, which was a horrible experience to bite down on those hard pieces of grit or sand. The cauliflower was not roasted enough and this dish also had a strange tanginess to it. I would not order the papardelle, scallops or cauliflower ever again.

    The chefs at Rich Table have a unique knack for making things taste good such as sardine and chicken livers, which many people have a strong aversion to, and making it taste absolutely fantastic - changing the most skeptical person into a believer! They use simple ingredients, presented in a simple, unpretentious way, yet their casual food and comfortable atmosphere is as good if not better than Michelin Star restaurants in San Francisco.
