A word from Riccardo Trattoria
Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri (owner of Bice's Venture), with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

This restaurant takes you back to the days of the little restaurants and the wonderful foods of the old country. Food is delicious, authentic Italian waiters, old wooden tables and chairs. Really cool little find.

Was not thrilled with being told we would have to wait for our 9:00 table, but hostess kindly pointed out we could wait at the bar in their sister restaurant across the street. Finally got a less-than-ideal table. Service and food more than made up for it. Worth the wait.

Riccardo provided a fantastic experience combining great traditional Italian food with some pretty novel experiments. Typically you get one or the other, however, in Riccardo's case you find both at a very, very high quality level but still in a very cozy, home-like atmosphere.

The food was really good, not amazing, but really good. The menu had so many options it was hard to choose - which is great. Everything from pasta to seafood to meat entrees offered a great variety. Makes you want to try everything. The service awesome. As far as atmosphere nothing special - bad acoustics and the seating is not comfortable. An obnoxiously pretentious couple sat next to us which was annoying but not the restaurant's fault.

The food didn't disappoint, very classic Italian. I had a special pasta with seasonal truffles - it was lovely but very pricey. My only complaint is that the tables are crammed in and you eat almost touching elbows with your stranger neighbors -- no privacy at your table at all which makes for a distracting and awkward atmosphere.

I had heard a lot of good hype about this place but was disappointed. I ordered the short ribs and although tender I was not impressed with the flavor. Food came out so piping hot that my friend and I thought our dinners were microwaved before actually served. My friend ordered one of the risotto specials with crab, lobster and shrimp and she was not impressed with the flavor either. Neither of us plan on going back here.

We were given great wine choices--with tastings! The food was wonderful and the presentation terrific! Service couldn't have been better....attentive but unobtrusive. A delightful find, since we had never been there before. Time limited due to an upcoming event, and they were sincere in saying, "Do you have to go already?"

Showed up an hour early and was seated right away. Small, one room dining room, cozy. Had a very nice waiter...made recommendations, kept the meal moving along but not hurried. The tri colored salad with goat cheese was tasty. My husband had the angel hair with black truffles and loved it...very simple, well prepared. My entree was the pappardelle with white truffle sauce. It was also very good, good flavor, not too thick a sauce. My husband had the house special, the Veal Chop Emiliana. Unfortunately, it was really salty and heavily breaded. Good selection of gelati for a light finish. Servings were very good size. By the end of the meal, there wasn't a spare table to be found.

Saw some good reviews online and we gave it a try. Glad we did. Excellent food and service. I had the Calamari Polenta appetizer and the Penne Strascicate for my main course. My wife had the Beet Salad and the Spaghetti Chitarra alla Carbonara. A bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Avignonese to accompany our food made for a perfect meal. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. For dessert we had Croccantino al Caffé topped with chocolate & caramel. I had espresso and our server made a Cafe Americano (not on the menu) for my wife. On our next trip to Chicago, Riccardo Trattoria will be on our list.

Riccardo's is the next best location. The food is prestige Italian. Every item I have tried on this perfectly sized menu is delicious. I am not alone in my opinion because every time I am there I see repeaters from previous visits. Best veal I have ever tasted anywhere. Try the veal with mushrooms. Or please just put on a napkin blindfold and point to anything on the menu. You won't be disappointed. Ambiance is mindful of a chic laid back New York place with very cool diners of all ages.

Expansive menu had me worried - sometimes, when a restaurant tries to do too much, nothing turns out especially well. However, in the end, everything we had was excellent. The zucchini blossoms were divine, gnocchi was the best I've ever had and my husband's osso buco was first-rate as well. Service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive - always a plus. Wish we lived in Lincoln Park so we could make this neighborhood gem part of our regular dining out routine!

Old fashioned feel to the room. Attentive service. The food is good, possibly better, but not great. Although it was a pleasant dining experience, the bill outpaced the quality of the food. The lasagna, made with bechamel and not tomato sauce, is forgettable and not recommended. My companion very much enjoyed the pork tenderloin. I would return, but will study the ample menu more carefully before choosing.

We had dinner with another couple and everything we ordered was outstanding. The stuffed zucchini blossoms are the best Ive had anywhere and the portion was generous for an appetizer. All the pasta and Branzino we ordered was perfect. Caution this is the real deal so let the staff know in advance if you want pasta less aldente. Service was excellent - we overstayed a bit due to great conversation but nobody tried to hurry is out. Walked away as always more then satisfied. Already have res for next month!

Amazing, authentic Italian food in a quaint atmosphere. We recently dined at Riccardo Trattoria for our anniversary and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The service and food were both outstanding! We had the fried stuffed olives, focaccina, half order of risotto with blue cheese/parmigiana/pine nut/spinach, pappardelle with mushrooms and truffle cream sauce, trofie, and passion fruit panna cotta. All were delicious. We will definitely be going back!

Three of us dined. We arrived early for our reservation and had no wait. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. Since this is a small restaurant, the food is served as soon as the preparation is complete and so it was hot and beautifully prepared and presented. The menu is extensive. Definitely a go to place. One caution, there is no bar only the restaurant.

Great small spot in Lincoln Park for amazing Italian food. Their menu is amazing with around 20 specials each night of apps, mains etc. Had fried soft shell crab that was incredible. Best Branzino in town. Pastas all cut the mark. They make some dishes that are off the beaten path which is a good thing in my opinion. It can take a while as the servers all seem very busy. Maybe too busy at times. Love this place.

The food is probably one of the best in the entire city of Chicago. My husband and I were there for our anniversary. The waiter took care of us as if we were the only couple in the place. There is nothing on the menu that will not be exceptional. We highly recommend Riccardo Tarttoria for dinner and special occasion gatherings. They have an amazing wine list.
