A word from Riccardo Trattoria
Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri (owner of Bice's Venture), with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.

A wonderful find if you are looking for a restaurant not on the usual tourist route. Located about 15 minutes by taxi from the Michigan Avenue area. The food is Italian, freshly prepared and worth the visit. The space feels like an older bistro that draws a lovely local crowd

We hadn't been here in awhile and we almost forgot what a great spot this is. The food and service are great! The wine list has plenty of reasonably priced choices as well. Try the lasagna, it is amazing. The sole is also very good and the fava bean appetizer is awesome. The panna cotta dessert is heavenly. We certainly won't wait long to go back.

My friend and I dined here for the first time. I had the Veal Ravioli and it was very good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the filling was flavorful. We both had a tri colored salad with baked goat cheese which may have been the highlight. The salad was perfect and I could have easily eaten just the salad and asked for more, it was so tasty. The breads are fresh and delicate. Small wine list..my friend was looking for a Chardonnay and only one choice but it is after all, an Italian restaurant. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely return.

Terrific REAL Italian restaurant. On our recent trip to Chicago (10/13/14) we visited several trendy hot-spot restaurants - none compared to this little gem. Everything was excellent, the calamari, veal saltimbocca, lobster fettuccine (daily special) and a basket of very good breads.

The pasta with white truffles are as good as it gets, and at $45 a plate, it is priced competitively with prices in Italy. The half gram of truffles is a generous portion, and the flavor lingers in the mouth. Great service and the reprinted dining room infuses a warm glow to the meal.

I had the privilege of dining here recently. I was visiting Chicago for the first time and was looking for an Italian place near Lincoln Park. The reviews were good so my friend and made a reservation. This was my first time using open table and it didn't disappoint. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was intimate, and the service was excellent. I would most definitely recommend experiencing it for yourself.

Love this place. Wonderful authentic fine dining reflecting the rich traditions of Northern Italy. The stuffed zucchini flowers are a must when they are on the menu - best Ive had. The Veal Chop is always done to perfection as is the home made pasta perfectly served al dente. We've never had anything that was average or disappointing. Ambience is great because the dining room is intimate and just look around people come here for serious dining!

The food was really good, not amazing, but really good. The menu had so many options it was hard to choose - which is great. Everything from pasta to seafood to meat entrees offered a great variety. Makes you want to try everything. The service awesome. As far as atmosphere nothing special - bad acoustics and the seating is not comfortable. An obnoxiously pretentious couple sat next to us which was annoying but not the restaurant's fault.

The food didn't disappoint, very classic Italian. I had a special pasta with seasonal truffles - it was lovely but very pricey. My only complaint is that the tables are crammed in and you eat almost touching elbows with your stranger neighbors -- no privacy at your table at all which makes for a distracting and awkward atmosphere.

I had heard a lot of good hype about this place but was disappointed. I ordered the short ribs and although tender I was not impressed with the flavor. Food came out so piping hot that my friend and I thought our dinners were microwaved before actually served. My friend ordered one of the risotto specials with crab, lobster and shrimp and she was not impressed with the flavor either. Neither of us plan on going back here.

Showed up an hour early and was seated right away. Small, one room dining room, cozy. Had a very nice waiter...made recommendations, kept the meal moving along but not hurried. The tri colored salad with goat cheese was tasty. My husband had the angel hair with black truffles and loved it...very simple, well prepared. My entree was the pappardelle with white truffle sauce. It was also very good, good flavor, not too thick a sauce. My husband had the house special, the Veal Chop Emiliana. Unfortunately, it was really salty and heavily breaded. Good selection of gelati for a light finish. Servings were very good size. By the end of the meal, there wasn't a spare table to be found.

Saw some good reviews online and we gave it a try. Glad we did. Excellent food and service. I had the Calamari Polenta appetizer and the Penne Strascicate for my main course. My wife had the Beet Salad and the Spaghetti Chitarra alla Carbonara. A bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Avignonese to accompany our food made for a perfect meal. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. For dessert we had Croccantino al Caffé topped with chocolate & caramel. I had espresso and our server made a Cafe Americano (not on the menu) for my wife. On our next trip to Chicago, Riccardo Trattoria will be on our list.

Riccardo's is the next best location. The food is prestige Italian. Every item I have tried on this perfectly sized menu is delicious. I am not alone in my opinion because every time I am there I see repeaters from previous visits. Best veal I have ever tasted anywhere. Try the veal with mushrooms. Or please just put on a napkin blindfold and point to anything on the menu. You won't be disappointed. Ambiance is mindful of a chic laid back New York place with very cool diners of all ages.

Expansive menu had me worried - sometimes, when a restaurant tries to do too much, nothing turns out especially well. However, in the end, everything we had was excellent. The zucchini blossoms were divine, gnocchi was the best I've ever had and my husband's osso buco was first-rate as well. Service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive - always a plus. Wish we lived in Lincoln Park so we could make this neighborhood gem part of our regular dining out routine!

Old fashioned feel to the room. Attentive service. The food is good, possibly better, but not great. Although it was a pleasant dining experience, the bill outpaced the quality of the food. The lasagna, made with bechamel and not tomato sauce, is forgettable and not recommended. My companion very much enjoyed the pork tenderloin. I would return, but will study the ample menu more carefully before choosing.
