Diner Reviews
  • "We started with cocktails and even though they were not made as requested, the bartender shrugged her shoulders and moved to the next patron. No biggie. Strike 1. Our server was slow to approach our table and even slower to return for our order. Strike 2. The tomato salad was average at best with no discernable special taste. The duck main course was beautifully served, but the duck was tough and lacked flavor. Strike 2.5. The cauliflower side vegetable was without taste. Strike 3. The corn side vegetable was very good. Our table was completely underwhelmed and everyone was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for this notable restaurant."

  • "One of Boston's great restaurants, a wonderful experience every time."

  • "My wife and I went to Rialto with my two children (5 and 11 years old). They put us in the out of the way table. It appeared that children are unwelcome at this restaurant. Our waiter was very slow and poorly trained."

  • "Bravo! It is refreshing to go to a restaurant where everything is spot on. The service is impeccable but what I really appreciate is the quality of the food. Too many times these day restaurants with high prices service average lack luster food. We keeping going back to Rialto as it is one of the few serious restaurant experiences left in the Boston area that won't disappoint."

  • "We ate at Rialto, an always dependable restaurant. We had originally planned to go to the North End but made a last-minute change. So still desiring Italian food, we went that way. My wife had a salad and I had salumi, which mostly consisted of prosciutto and stuffed eggplant. Very good as was the wine (prosecco for her, pinot grigio for me). My wife had the rabbit ravioli which she tells me was delicious and I had the rigatoni which was spicy and very good. (Can I say it's better than the North End? No). We finished up with a dessert of Trio di dolci, three desserts and a cappuccino. We had a nice view of the courtyard, very good wait service. We will definitely return. I suspect there's a 5-star experience here and Saturday was close."

  • "Rialto is one of the most elegant, high quality places for a wonderful evening. The room is beautiful. One of us had a dietary issue, and the staff took great care to help with this. The service is lovely, and the food is exquisite."

  • "This is a restaurant that is ALWAYS "the best meal I can remember." The food is creatively prepared, beautifully presented and a special treat to savor. It is truly one of the absolute best in Boston."

  • "Have eaten here quite a few times over the years; each time the food has been excellent, beautifully presented, and fit for foodies. The Dining room has sheer white drapes and has a zen like, elegant feel. Definitely could be a place for a special occasion or to impress the in-laws. The service is discreet yet exceptionally attentive. From the hostess to each of the wait staff you are treated as a special guest."

  • "Our meal was outstanding and the service was excellent!"

  • "I recently are here with a party of five other diners on a Saturday night. Simply put, Rialto aims to compete in the upper echelon of Boston fine dining and falls short on several critical food criteria. Execution flaws at unforgivable price points characterized the meal. A bass crudo was sliced poorly enough to yield a tough and chewy plate that should have been etherial and delicate. A rabbit ravioli was anemic and overcooked.'Slow Roasted Duck' was a seemingly confit half bird with a very very dark char on the entire thing. I missed a rare breast to balance the fatty leg quarter meat. Bluefish bagna cruda was the highlight of the meal. The chef succeeded in keeping the fish light and vibrant and matched it well with a sweet corn garnish."

  • "Excellent dining. Always an interesting menu which varies seasonally."

  • "Eating at Rialto was a good experience -- the wait staff and the bar staff were excellent. Professional and engaging. However, the food was good, but pretty expensive for what we got. I think that there may be higher value restaurants in the area. I should also note that I am familiar with the comperable restaurants in the area, so I am prepared to spend money for great good. Rialto did not hit the mark this time."

  • "6 people 3.5 hours and no coffee or dessert was ordered because the service was so bad. We will never go back there again."

  • "Brought visiting relatives for some fine dining. Duck was inedible. Service was at moments strangely obtrusive. Bad lighting. Sad to see a wonderful place on a bad night. Barely recognizable. A more general decline?"

  • "I'd walked by Rialto numerous times in my way to Henrietta's Table or the Regattabar but never took the plunge until last weekend for an anniversary dinner. Wow--I was missing out. My girlfriend and I are still talking about our wonderful experience at Rialto. I highly recommend the grilled little necks and the seafood stew. As an extra touch, the Assistant GM (who checked in with each table, always a sign of a well run restaurant) emailed me the next afternoon to thank us for choosing Rialto! Cannot recommend highly enough."

  • "We had not been to Rialto in the past couple of years and realized how much we missed the experience and food delivered there. The food, as always, left us yearning for more and the flavors followed us home. We will be back."

  • "My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary here last week and we had a fantastic dinner! I had mentioned on my reservation that it was our anniversary and asked for champagne to be waiting at our table when we arrived. Not only was there champagne, but there were decorations and every single staff person we interacted with us wished us a happy anniversary. The food was incredible, as always. We normally visit Rialto during Restaurant Week, because they always do a great prix fix menu, but I'm so happy we splurged for this occasion. We will definitely return for many anniversaries to come!"

  • "I went to Rialto once ten years ago. I will not wait so long to return next time. All the food was great - octopus in a salad was as tender as what I was just eating in Japan. Great food with nice wine-by-the -glass selection to accompany."

  • "Dining at Rialto is a special event. The service is very attentive without pretension. We dined outside on the patio which was very relaxing overlooking the Charles Hotel plaza. My husband declared the duck the best he had in his life. Beautiful crispy skin outside and delicate inside. The lamb chops were coated with seasoned bread crumbs and very tender. Definitely recommend the strawberry desert. Light as a feather. Prices are well worth it for a gourmet experience."

  • "A group of 8 of us went before seeing a show at A.R.T It was perfect! The staff made sure we kept on schedule, handled food restrictions, and special request without blinking an eye. We went on the early side so there weren't many other diners there but I would most definitely go again! The food and drinks we sensational along with the wait staff"

  • "What an amazing experience - excellent food and service, a Boston/Cambridge institution. If you've never been, make sure to go. If you've been before, return - it's still as amazing as you remember."

  • "The food, the ambience and the service are the kind adults long for and that children never really appreciate. It's a go-to place for celebrations, anniversaries and just great meals."

  • "My husband and I went here for a romantic dinner, and to use a gift card we had received. We had been excited already by the descriptions on the menu, but the actual taste took it to a whole other level. My husband is from/grew up in northern Italy and tends to be a harder critic on Italian restaurants - but he (and I too) was raving about this meal all night and the next day. The prices are a bit high (we were certainly thankful to have the gift card to contribute to our bill), definitely making this a spot more for a special occasion rather than a normal night out, but we were blown away by the flavors and would love to come back."

  • "I took my wife, coworker, and the owner of my company to Rialto for Thursday night dinner. The food was high-quality, but the portions for firsts and most of our thirds were rather small. My duck entree was actually a good size portion, but I almost felt guilty because my guests' portions were much smaller. My first of bass crudo was delicious and plated beautifully. My entree, while large, was not cooked to my liking. In rendering the duck skin, the breast and thigh were over cooked without a touch of pink to them. My wife enjoyed her scallops, but they were an inch in diameter and too small for the price $40+ price tag. Service was the worst aspect. Waiter disappeared and my boss had to pour the wine for the table."

  • ""Slow cooked" turned out totally burned and the spicy pasta was just spicy - nothing special for that price."

  • "If you want to please someone (including yourself) who loves good food and wine, Rialto is a great choice. My pea soup was a little bland, but the scallop entree that followed was beautifully prepared and almost unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere is elegant and grown-up without being stuffy, and the service is what you would expect from a place like this: understated and very good. Recommended for special occasions."

  • "Once again, Rialto never disappoints! Outstanding service, food, and wine. Jody Adams even came over to our table to wish us a happy anniversary and to chat for a while. This is definitely my favorite Boston (Cambridge) restaurant."

  • "Celebrated our grown son's birthday here. I noted on my Open Table res that we were doing so and requested a candle or such on the dessert, and it was done without any reminder that evening. Small plates were perfect to put together a meal. "

  • "Having been to Rialto many many times we are considered regulars and treated like family - the food and wine selections could not be better. Jody Adams is a Boston hero to the food world and it shows at Rialto - Staff is always so gracious , food is over the top - casual feel in a very upscale setting. True Professionals doing it right - thanks Jody !!!! Rialto makes Boston a better place."

  • "Although I've eaten at Rialto many times, I find each visit to reveal new flavors and unexpected joys. Jody Adams and her creative team make each visit memorable. From the beautifully appointed room, friendly/efficient welcome and informed/professional wait staff, each element is well honed, comfortable and never boring. Food and wine are among the best that the city has to offer. Consider the rabbit, halibut and even the T-bone pork - all amazing. I'll be back for more."

  • "The Rialto is reliable for fine Italian dining. We were delighted to see a Montefalco Sagrantino on the wine menu."

  • "We ate dinner at Rialto before going to an a.r.t. theatrical performance up the street. The food was fabulous: fresh, flavorful, imaginative. Burrata to die for; desserts to kill for. The dessert-beverage menu included an unfamiliar but very tasty fennel liqueur. Service was excellent; attentive and there when you needed them, but without hovering. All in all, a superb experience."

  • "Rialto continues to be one of the top restaurants in the Boston area. The current spring menu combines wonderful tastes with great wine pairings and plenty of diversity. There is something here for everyone. Jody was very much a presence, interacting with patrons and exchanging cooking tips. The service was great. "

  • "My husband and I ate at Rialto for our wedding anniversary, and it was nothing short of fabulous. I requested a quiet table, and we were seated in a tucked away corner by a window overlooking Harvard Square with a sheer curtain separating our seating area from the rest of the restaurant. The food was full of fresh, interesting flavors in portion sizes that left us feeling satisfied without being overstuffed. Our server was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable and always seemed to appear at just the right time. This was our first trip to Rialto, and it was definitely one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in the Boston area."

  • "While stylish & professionally run, the caliber of the cooking was shockingly poor: from nervously shaved transparent slivers of sopressata buoyed up by a few meager fava beans & greens ( this was entitled "House Salumi") to a perfectly good halibut filet served in green bath water into which I suspect an herbal tea bag had been broken ("Pan Roasted Halibut, nettle pesto") to nicely cooked but utterly undistinguished Seared Sea Scallops. Outstanding were the bread sticks & bread & the little lemony cheese turnovers that came w/ the Roasted Asparagus app. We also liked the Gnocchi. We had a fun, relaxing time enjoying each other's company. The wait staff was attentive & not intrusive. All that lacked was skillfully prepared food. "

  • "Food was exception--every dish tasty, inventive, presentation gorgeous in terms of color, texture and all. The scallops among best I've ever had--with great morels atop. Truly memorable.Great place for a splurge on a special event!"

  • "In spite of having a reservation we had to wait 40 minutes for a table and we arrived 10 minutes early. When we complained the hostess said she was waiting for us to tell her when we were ready to move from the bar to a table. I thought that was her job. "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "This was one of the most expensive meals I've ever had, but the food was far from the best. The seafood stew was fantastic, the rabbit was excellent, but the duck was overcooked and the appetizers were mediocre. The cocktails were decent. Perhaps I'm spoiled moving from San Francisco, where the food is consistently better than Cambridge. But I've had more memorable (and cheaper) meals at the Beat Hotel and Red House than at Rialto. The ambiance also is nothing to write home about - typical hotel restaurant. Servers were great though."
