A word from Rialto
Unwind, Italian-style, at Rialto, where James Beard Award-winning chef Jody Adams brings an Italian perspective to New England ingredients. Menu changes monthly to reflect the best in seasonal ingredients and highlight different regional cuisine of Italy. Current menu offerings include Roasted Asparagus with fried pecorino cheese, chestnut honey, and sherry vinegar; Potato Gnocchi with chanterelles, peas, mint, hazelnuts, and goat cheese; Maine Lamb Chop and Roasted Leg with minted ricotta ravioli, spring vegetable stew, nuts, and honey; and Maple-Pecan Profiteroles with maple-espresso glaze, chocolate sauce, salted pecans, and maple ice cream.

  • "I recently are here with a party of five other diners on a Saturday night. Simply put, Rialto aims to compete in the upper echelon of Boston fine dining and falls short on several critical food criteria. Execution flaws at unforgivable price points characterized the meal. A bass crudo was sliced poorly enough to yield a tough and chewy plate that should have been etherial and delicate. A rabbit ravioli was anemic and overcooked.'Slow Roasted Duck' was a seemingly confit half bird with a very very dark char on the entire thing. I missed a rare breast to balance the fatty leg quarter meat. Bluefish bagna cruda was the highlight of the meal.The chef succeeded in keeping the fish light and vibrant and matched it well with a sweet corn garnish."

I think that there may be higher value restaurants in the area. I should also note that I am familiar with the comperable restaurants in the area, so I am prepared to spend money for great good. Rialto did not hit the mark this time."

  • "I'd walked by Rialto numerous times in my way to Henrietta's Table or the Regattabar but never took the plunge until last weekend for an anniversary dinner. Wow--I was missing out. My girlfriend and I are still talking about our wonderful experience at Rialto. I highly recommend the grilled little necks and the seafood stew. As an extra touch, the Assistant GM (who checked in with each table, always a sign of a well run restaurant) emailed me the next afternoon to thank us for choosing Rialto! Cannot recommend highly enough."

  • "My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary here last week and we had a fantastic dinner! I had mentioned on my reservation that it was our anniversary and asked for champagne to be waiting at our table when we arrived. Not only was there champagne, but there were decorations and every single staff person we interacted with us wished us a happy anniversary. The food was incredible, as always. We normally visit Rialto during Restaurant Week, because they always do a great prix fix menu, but I'm so happy we splurged for this occasion. We will definitely return for many anniversaries to come!"

  • "Dining at Rialto is a special event. The service is very attentive without pretension. We dined outside on the patio which was very relaxing overlooking the Charles Hotel plaza. My husband declared the duck the best he had in his life. Beautiful crispy skin outside and delicate inside. The lamb chops were coated with seasoned bread crumbs and very tender. Definitely recommend the strawberry desert. Light as a feather. Prices are well worth it for a gourmet experience."

  • "My husband and I went here for a romantic dinner, and to use a gift card we had received. We had been excited already by the descriptions on the menu, but the actual taste took it to a whole other level. My husband is from/grew up in northern Italy and tends to be a harder critic on Italian restaurants - but he (and I too) was raving about this meal all night and the next day. The prices are a bit high (we were certainly thankful to have the gift card to contribute to our bill), definitely making this a spot more for a special occasion rather than a normal night out, but we were blown away by the flavors and would love to come back."

  • "I took my wife, coworker, and the owner of my company to Rialto for Thursday night dinner. The food was high-quality, but the portions for firsts and most of our thirds were rather small. My duck entree was actually a good size portion, but I almost felt guilty because my guests' portions were much smaller. My first of bass crudo was delicious and plated beautifully. My entree, while large, was not cooked to my liking. In rendering the duck skin, the breast and thigh were over cooked without a touch of pink to them. My wife enjoyed her scallops, but they were an inch in diameter and too small for the price $40+ price tag. Service was the worst aspect. Waiter disappeared and my boss had to pour the wine for the table."

My pea soup was a little bland, but the scallop entree that followed was beautifully prepared and almost unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere is elegant and grown-up without being stuffy, and the service is what you would expect from a place like this: understated and very good. Recommended for special occasions."

  • "We ate dinner at Rialto before going to an a.r.t. theatrical performance up the street. The food was fabulous: fresh, flavorful, imaginative. Burrata to die for; desserts to kill for. The dessert-beverage menu included an unfamiliar but very tasty fennel liqueur. Service was excellent; attentive and there when you needed them, but without hovering. All in all, a superb experience."

  • "My husband and I ate at Rialto for our wedding anniversary, and it was nothing short of fabulous. I requested a quiet table, and we were seated in a tucked away corner by a window overlooking Harvard Square with a sheer curtain separating our seating area from the rest of the restaurant. The food was full of fresh, interesting flavors in portion sizes that left us feeling satisfied without being overstuffed. Our server was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable and always seemed to appear at just the right time. This was our first trip to Rialto, and it was definitely one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in the Boston area."

  • "While stylish & professionally run, the caliber of the cooking was shockingly poor: from nervously shaved transparent slivers of sopressata buoyed up by a few meager fava beans & greens ( this was entitled "House Salumi") to a perfectly good halibut filet served in green bath water into which I suspect an herbal tea bag had been broken ("Pan Roasted Halibut, nettle pesto") to nicely cooked but utterly undistinguished Seared Sea Scallops. Outstanding were the bread sticks & bread & the little lemony cheese turnovers that came w/ the Roasted Asparagus app. We also liked the Gnocchi. We had a fun, relaxing time enjoying each other's company. The wait staff was attentive & not intrusive. All that lacked was skillfully prepared food. "

  • "This was one of the most expensive meals I've ever had, but the food was far from the best. The seafood stew was fantastic, the rabbit was excellent, but the duck was overcooked and the appetizers were mediocre. The cocktails were decent. Perhaps I'm spoiled moving from San Francisco, where the food is consistently better than Cambridge. But I've had more memorable (and cheaper) meals at the Beat Hotel and Red House than at Rialto. The ambiance also is nothing to write home about - typical hotel restaurant. Servers were great though."

  • "I've admired and enjoyed Jody Adams' work since my time at Thinking Machines over 20 years ago. The company was in the old Carter Ink building and Ms. Adams was the head chef at Michaela's, the restaurant on the ground floor of the building. The food was just great (I remember my wife and I having dinner there one evening when Julia Child and her entourage swept in; I think that says something about Ms. Adams' talent and ability). Rialto is also wonderful, but different. It serves a different market and Ms. Adams has adapted brilliantly. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there and will certainly return."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience on Friday night. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the braised octopus appetizer (very tender and flavorful) as well as the lobster entree served in a butter sauce with bite sized pieces of applewood smoked bacon presented on the side. Really terrific! Our waiter recommended a Vermentino to go with the meal and it was a great choice. We would love to go back the next time we're in Cambridge."

  • "I can't believe I have lived in Boston for 25 years and never been here. This is a true treasure. The food is ridiculously good and the portions are decent and unfussy in appearance. The wine list has a great selection of moderately-priced wines, many of which seem to have only a small mark up over retail, which is refreshing. The service was very good and we didn't have to shout to hear each other. We met Jody at the bar on the way out. She was very lovely and kind. It was a very pleasurable experience. "

  • "This wa not our first time at Rialto - but the first since the lovely redecoration. The banquettes keep the noise level at a comfortable level, the staff was attentive but not intrusive, the food was delicious - halibut, lamb, and duck were properly prepared and attractively presented. Wine servings were generous, and the custard desert the perfect ending. While the price is somewhat high, it is worth it. I highly recommend this restaurant."
