Diner Reviews
  • "Dining at Rialto is a special event. The service is very attentive without pretension. We dined outside on the patio which was very relaxing overlooking the Charles Hotel plaza. My husband declared the duck the best he had in his life. Beautiful crispy skin outside and delicate inside. The lamb chops were coated with seasoned bread crumbs and very tender. Definitely recommend the strawberry desert. Light as a feather. Prices are well worth it for a gourmet experience."

  • "A group of 8 of us went before seeing a show at A.R.T It was perfect! The staff made sure we kept on schedule, handled food restrictions, and special request without blinking an eye. We went on the early side so there weren't many other diners there but I would most definitely go again! The food and drinks we sensational along with the wait staff"

  • "What an amazing experience - excellent food and service, a Boston/Cambridge institution. If you've never been, make sure to go. If you've been before, return - it's still as amazing as you remember."

  • "Having been to Rialto many many times we are considered regulars and treated like family - the food and wine selections could not be better. Jody Adams is a Boston hero to the food world and it shows at Rialto - Staff is always so gracious , food is over the top - casual feel in a very upscale setting. True Professionals doing it right - thanks Jody !!!! Rialto makes Boston a better place."

  • "The food, the ambience and the service are the kind adults long for and that children never really appreciate. It's a go-to place for celebrations, anniversaries and just great meals."

  • "My husband and I went here for a romantic dinner, and to use a gift card we had received. We had been excited already by the descriptions on the menu, but the actual taste took it to a whole other level. My husband is from/grew up in northern Italy and tends to be a harder critic on Italian restaurants - but he (and I too) was raving about this meal all night and the next day. The prices are a bit high (we were certainly thankful to have the gift card to contribute to our bill), definitely making this a spot more for a special occasion rather than a normal night out, but we were blown away by the flavors and would love to come back."

  • "I took my wife, coworker, and the owner of my company to Rialto for Thursday night dinner. The food was high-quality, but the portions for firsts and most of our thirds were rather small. My duck entree was actually a good size portion, but I almost felt guilty because my guests' portions were much smaller. My first of bass crudo was delicious and plated beautifully. My entree, while large, was not cooked to my liking. In rendering the duck skin, the breast and thigh were over cooked without a touch of pink to them. My wife enjoyed her scallops, but they were an inch in diameter and too small for the price $40+ price tag. Service was the worst aspect. Waiter disappeared and my boss had to pour the wine for the table."

  • ""Slow cooked" turned out totally burned and the spicy pasta was just spicy - nothing special for that price."

  • "If you want to please someone (including yourself) who loves good food and wine, Rialto is a great choice. My pea soup was a little bland, but the scallop entree that followed was beautifully prepared and almost unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere is elegant and grown-up without being stuffy, and the service is what you would expect from a place like this: understated and very good. Recommended for special occasions."

  • "Once again, Rialto never disappoints! Outstanding service, food, and wine. Jody Adams even came over to our table to wish us a happy anniversary and to chat for a while. This is definitely my favorite Boston (Cambridge) restaurant."

  • "Celebrated our grown son's birthday here. I noted on my Open Table res that we were doing so and requested a candle or such on the dessert, and it was done without any reminder that evening. Small plates were perfect to put together a meal. "

  • "The Rialto is reliable for fine Italian dining. We were delighted to see a Montefalco Sagrantino on the wine menu."

  • "Although I've eaten at Rialto many times, I find each visit to reveal new flavors and unexpected joys. Jody Adams and her creative team make each visit memorable. From the beautifully appointed room, friendly/efficient welcome and informed/professional wait staff, each element is well honed, comfortable and never boring. Food and wine are among the best that the city has to offer. Consider the rabbit, halibut and even the T-bone pork - all amazing. I'll be back for more."

  • "We ate dinner at Rialto before going to an a.r.t. theatrical performance up the street. The food was fabulous: fresh, flavorful, imaginative. Burrata to die for; desserts to kill for. The dessert-beverage menu included an unfamiliar but very tasty fennel liqueur. Service was excellent; attentive and there when you needed them, but without hovering. All in all, a superb experience."

  • "My husband and I ate at Rialto for our wedding anniversary, and it was nothing short of fabulous. I requested a quiet table, and we were seated in a tucked away corner by a window overlooking Harvard Square with a sheer curtain separating our seating area from the rest of the restaurant. The food was full of fresh, interesting flavors in portion sizes that left us feeling satisfied without being overstuffed. Our server was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable and always seemed to appear at just the right time. This was our first trip to Rialto, and it was definitely one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in the Boston area."

  • "Rialto continues to be one of the top restaurants in the Boston area. The current spring menu combines wonderful tastes with great wine pairings and plenty of diversity. There is something here for everyone. Jody was very much a presence, interacting with patrons and exchanging cooking tips. The service was great. "

  • "While stylish & professionally run, the caliber of the cooking was shockingly poor: from nervously shaved transparent slivers of sopressata buoyed up by a few meager fava beans & greens ( this was entitled "House Salumi") to a perfectly good halibut filet served in green bath water into which I suspect an herbal tea bag had been broken ("Pan Roasted Halibut, nettle pesto") to nicely cooked but utterly undistinguished Seared Sea Scallops. Outstanding were the bread sticks & bread & the little lemony cheese turnovers that came w/ the Roasted Asparagus app. We also liked the Gnocchi. We had a fun, relaxing time enjoying each other's company. The wait staff was attentive & not intrusive. All that lacked was skillfully prepared food. "

  • "Food was exception--every dish tasty, inventive, presentation gorgeous in terms of color, texture and all. The scallops among best I've ever had--with great morels atop. Truly memorable.Great place for a splurge on a special event!"

  • "This was one of the most expensive meals I've ever had, but the food was far from the best. The seafood stew was fantastic, the rabbit was excellent, but the duck was overcooked and the appetizers were mediocre. The cocktails were decent. Perhaps I'm spoiled moving from San Francisco, where the food is consistently better than Cambridge. But I've had more memorable (and cheaper) meals at the Beat Hotel and Red House than at Rialto. The ambiance also is nothing to write home about - typical hotel restaurant. Servers were great though."

  • "In spite of having a reservation we had to wait 40 minutes for a table and we arrived 10 minutes early. When we complained the hostess said she was waiting for us to tell her when we were ready to move from the bar to a table. I thought that was her job. "

  • "The only negative thing I can say about this place is that the portions are a bit skimpy in my estimation. Otherwise, realy fantastic choice for a special dinner. "

  • "I've admired and enjoyed Jody Adams' work since my time at Thinking Machines over 20 years ago. The company was in the old Carter Ink building and Ms. Adams was the head chef at Michaela's, the restaurant on the ground floor of the building. The food was just great (I remember my wife and I having dinner there one evening when Julia Child and her entourage swept in; I think that says something about Ms. Adams' talent and ability). Rialto is also wonderful, but different. It serves a different market and Ms. Adams has adapted brilliantly. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there and will certainly return."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience on Friday night. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the braised octopus appetizer (very tender and flavorful) as well as the lobster entree served in a butter sauce with bite sized pieces of applewood smoked bacon presented on the side. Really terrific! Our waiter recommended a Vermentino to go with the meal and it was a great choice. We would love to go back the next time we're in Cambridge."

  • "I can't believe I have lived in Boston for 25 years and never been here. This is a true treasure. The food is ridiculously good and the portions are decent and unfussy in appearance. The wine list has a great selection of moderately-priced wines, many of which seem to have only a small mark up over retail, which is refreshing. The service was very good and we didn't have to shout to hear each other. We met Jody at the bar on the way out. She was very lovely and kind. It was a very pleasurable experience. "

  • "Wonderful experience celebrating our anniversary. The ambiance was sleek and perfect for a romantic night out. The special was amazing with braise octopus, Sardinian Stew followed by braised rabbit. Service was fabulous and the sommelier very helpful. A glowing evening."

  • "The service was excellent. Depending on the dish the food was OK or very good-the rabbit was excellent, the halibut good and the squid ink pasta pretty tasteless and disappointing. We had an enjoyable dinner and our waiter took care of us so that we were able to get to our show upstairs at 7.30 right on time."

  • " Very good food and very good service - the restaurant offers exotic cooking and is very well balanced with incrediances. Would recommend the restaurant to every business traveller. Overall we enjoyed my dining experience at Rialto but thought that the food was overrated and the portions tiny for the amount spent. Lovely atmosphere, good but not great food "

  • "This wa not our first time at Rialto - but the first since the lovely redecoration. The banquettes keep the noise level at a comfortable level, the staff was attentive but not intrusive, the food was delicious - halibut, lamb, and duck were properly prepared and attractively presented. Wine servings were generous, and the custard desert the perfect ending. While the price is somewhat high, it is worth it. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Since last at this lovely place 3 years ago, I looked forward to being once again impressed by the delicious preparations of its versatile & talented chef. Right away this time, I noticed that the spare but elegant surroundings I recalled looked slightly shabby, & the New Orleans-style jazz blaring from speakers was jarring. Another surprise was our waiter, friendly & enthusiastic but obviously not professionally trained. So far, hmmm...but, on to the food -- the 4 appetizers, 2 main courses & 1 dessert we shared were very good, with minor hiccups: my raw asparagus salad didn't match its "roasted" menu description, rabbit was slightly overdone, & bread was served ice cold. This food destination is still worthwhile, but needs attention."

  • "The food and service are impeccable, but we also appreciated the quiet elegance of the restaurant where we could actually hear each other without needing to shout across the table."

  • "Huge fan of Rialto every time I'm in Boston. Food last night was mostly superb, the signature dishes as good as ever, the halibut not so much. The service was disappointing, however, with a waiter that knew little about the menu, less about the wine, and even less about timeliness. Not what I've experienced before there. For a great menu and experience, Rialto should've done better. "

  • "My husband and I had a few great things to celebrate so we decided to blow the top off and not pay attention to prices. We were not disappointed at all! The service at the bar was great, out waitress at out table was attentive and perfect. Food delish! The only thing I would say that was negative was a man in a suit who I believe was the manager kept stomping around and was clearly out of sorts. The entire waitstaff was cool and collected even though he wasn't. I would totally go back again and highly Highly recommend. "
