I went for tea and did enjoy myself but had some issues. I actually LOVED the scones and cream/jam. That was fantastic. I wish I'd just eaten those and the tea sandwiches. Dessert tray was only good for the lavender cookies (yum) and truffles. My server was a nice woman, I guess I figured everyone else would be a bit more warm and welcoming at a place that serves something cozy like tea. Didn't get the feeling that we were entering the cocoon of camaraderie and service that is provided by the atmosphere of a great team at a historic location. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice p I will go back - but there was something missing.

I stumbled across this restaurant on Yelp while searching for a spot for our anniversary dinner. This place is small but easy to find. Both of our entrees were delicious as was the cream of crab soup appetizer we had. It was a romantic setting by a window and although our waiter was new, service was good. I understand they're known for their high tea but I highly recommend Reynold's Tavern for dinner as well.

My aunt was visiting and we wanted to have a nice afternoon tea. Reynolds Tavern was the perfect place! We had High Tea which came with soup or quiche, pots of tea and wonderful finger sandwiches and tea cakes. We sat by the window and visited for 2 hours! Their tea selection is wonderful with lots of amazing varieties to choose from. Both the soup and quiche were delicious. Then we were served a three tiered plate of delicious scones, finger sandwiches and mini cakes. It was the ideal place to finish her visit to historic Annapolis!

  • Afternoon Tea

I've been taking my young daughter to afternoon tea at Reynold's for several years, and we have never had anything short of a wonderful experience. The staff knows just what's afoot and both seats us in a place that's relatively quiet (if there is an event going on) and allows my daughter pick her (and my) tea cup pattern. The food is wonderful, the tea savory, and the decor enriching. Recently my wife began a gluten free diet, and when she accompanied us on a visit last spring, the Reynolds staff was able to accommodate her as well - and that really means a lot. Often times, gluten free options are disappointing, but the stuffed mushrooms she received were delicious. Reynolds is well worth making a tradition of your own.

My daughter, aunt and I each had the Colonial tea. We added a first course salad of mixed greens, dried blackberries and goat cheese medallions which was great. Two of us selected the soup of the day which was pumpkin soup and my aunt ordered the cream of crab (soup or salad is included in the Colonial Tea). Both soups were delicious! Colonial tea consists of savories, sweets and your choice of scone. There is more than you need to be fully satisfied. The hot savories are outstanding. The tea sandwiches are average. Scones are delicious! I would highly recommend this restaurant. You have the option of many different versions of tea with varying menus or you may simply order off of the regular menu which has many lovely choices.

  • Afternoon Tea variety

    Dined on 9/19/2014
I like that the place has a good selection of Afternoon Tea packages, and the variety of what each package offers (and the price) is quite adequate. However, I just wish they were a little bit more creative with at least the finger sandwiches. It would have been good to have a few different options to choose from instead of just the three basic kinds. Additionally, some creativity in the basic kinds would have been a nice change from the norm also. For example, instead of cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, get a little adventurous and make it into a curry cream cheese and cucumber, or something different that people cannot make at home. Same with the egg-salad sandwiches. On the other hand, the quiche was amazing in texture and flavor.

The service started off a little scattered, like not having place settings on the table by the time the soup arrived, but our waiter rallied and overall did a good job. The cream of crab soup was creamy and zesty. The fish and chips were very good. There was a good selection on-tap on the beer menu, although my husband was surprised at the size of his serving, which was smaller than mine. That was a reading fail on his part, since the beer menu clearly stated the ABV and serving size ;) I suspect they determine proper serving portions based on the alcohol content, because he just had one at 10 oz, and said he felt it when we left.

The ambience was great, very quiet and intimate, but the food was only so-so. I ordered pasta/sausage dish that didn't really look or taste what it was described as in the menu - it was so overly spiced, it was hard to eat. The crab cakes another diner ordered were pretty good, as was the rockfish my girlfriend ordered - not outstanding, but good. The dinner rolls are delicious, and the salad appetizers are reasonably good; but I guess I had very high (maybe too high) expectations of this historic landmark hotel/restaurant.

Soo I convinced the girlfriend that I've wanted to try Reynolds for quite some time mainly due to its historical value. Read the reviews that said the food was okay (which it was, a bit overpriced for what it was) -- besides the Bacon Mac and Cheese-- that stuff was amazing, probably should have just ordered two of those for my entree! BUT I was sipping on my water when I felt something granular in my mouth and when I pulled it out it was a chard of glass. This was quite concerning to me, and I never give bad reviews or complain as I've worked in the industry before. All the waiter did was apologize and bring me a new water... If I had swallowed that chard who knows what that can do to your body.

You can feel the history in this place! Beautiful charm in the artwork and ambience. Ordered the colonial tea service which included the option of soup, salad or quiche. I chose the wonderfully tasty cream of crab soup. Scones with clotted cream were very authentic, tea sandwiches were tasty, and huge and tasty selection of desserts. I chose the Reynolds Garden tea - I was very pleased with this tea as well. I will be back soon! No weekend trip to DTA would be complete without a stop here!

We chose this restaurant for a celebration. It was an evening during the week and the restaurant was almost empty. They were out of 2 different entrees and the only chocolate dessert. The waiter was extremely slow in everything. He had to "go ask" about every question. He did not serve bread until the entrees were half finished and he did not give us a choice but instead just put whatever kind he wanted us to have. It was effort for him to keep out water glasses filled. My husband's entree was barely edible due to the spices. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, our group of 8 was pushed into the back corner of the room where it was difficult for us to get into the table much less for the waiter to have room to serve.

  • Too Much Salt!

    Dined on 7/26/2014
I had the cream of crab soup, and the scallops for dinner. The crab meat and scallops were both extremely salty. I like salt, and usually add a few dashes of salt to my food, but the scallops were so salty they left a burning sensation on my tongue. The salt completely overpowered the taste of the crab meat and scallops. I recently learned that the seafood industry frequently treats seafood with a commercial salt (Sodium Tripolyphosphate) to make it absorb water and weight mores (the percentage of water weight can be as over 50%.) This is common with frozen farmed shrimp - just read the ingredients. I didn't want to eat chemicals for my special birthday dinner, and you might want to make a choice about how much salt you consume.

I should have listened to other reviews. The service was pretty terrible and, although we are normally pretty easy to please in the wine department, we had to send our wine back. My family and I often visit downtown Annapolis, but had not noticed Reynolds Tavern until recently. After reading about it on the Internet, my mom and I decided to go for afternoon tea/lunch, and we absolutely loved it! The little dining room where we ate was beautifully decorated in a Colonial style, and even though we went on a Monday afternoon, we were surprised to see a few other groups dining as well. Our server was very nice and took our orders immediately. I ordered the savory tea with Earl Grey, which came with finger sandwhiches, tarts, and a scone--it was absolutely delicious!! When we got home afterwards, we both wanted to come back for lunch the next day. We will definitely visit again soon!

While the Reynolds Tavern is renown for afternoon tea, we have found it delivers a consistently excellent evening meal. The entrees are very American yet have a unique flair and far more taste, read that proper seasoning, than many other top notch venues in Annapolis. We visit them before going to the Rams Head for a show, but with its situation on the town's main circle, it is so centrally located that any reason to dine is a good one. Garage parking is also nearby. The staff is always pleasant, and the service allows you to dine in a relaxed manner, never rushed. It is a very special place, with twin dinning areas filled with antiques and one even has a fireplace, and if you want to eat outside, you can do that too.

Reynold's Tavern helped to make a birthday dinner memorable. I've been to the Tavern a few times for lunch, but never for dinner until now. My expectations were very high and I was not disappointed in the least. The building is beautiful and so historical. My guest and I were seated in a perfect spot, by the window. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I was a little disappointed, at first, that the kitchen had run out of one the entries in which I was interested. I soon forgot about that omission after I tasted the main course that I ordered instead. Afterward, the server followed up with a slice of decadent, chocolate cake with a birthday candle on top. Probably the best chocolate cake I ever tasted.

I grew up in Annapolis but Saturday night was the first time I had dinner at Reynolds Tavern (I went there for afternoon tea a few years ago and really enjoyed it). The dining room is small as you would expect from such a historic restaurant and the service wasn't exactly speedy, but the food was delicious. There were six of us and we all enjoyed our meals (crab cakes, mahi mahi, steak frites, rockfish) very much. I would highly recommend dinner at Reynolds Tavern when you have a little time and want to enjoy the historic ambience of downtown Annapolis.

My wife and I have eaten at Reynolds Tavern several times. We've never been disappointed. The food is great, and service is very attentive but not annoyingly so. This time, we tried the Long Island oysters appetizer and the bacon-wrapped sea scallops--both were great. I tried the Mint Julep and found it minty and not overly sweet--excellent. They have a good wine list, but we just ordered by the glass and liked what we ordered. We will definitely return to Reynolds.

I drove down from Delaware and the Tavern did not have my reservation. Luckily with some juggling they were able to accommodate us but if you make a reservation and drive a long way you expect the restaurant to have the reservation. The Tavern is quaint and nice but the food was only mediocre. We both ordered the fish and chips and they were greasy. I ordered the bread pudding and don't understand how they were out of it at 1230.

We came for afternoon tea and had a delightful experience.. We've done high tea and England and must say this is a close second...everything was delightful and service was wonderful. Will be back next time we're in town, and this time to try dinner..the menu looks fabulous..Stopped by the pub downstairs later in the evening while on our own version of a pub crawl and found it to be a really cool little place. they also have an outside patio, with a live musician playing/singing..my only suggestion is for the bartender to brush up on how to make a Long Island Iced Tea...not the best I've had...but I've had worse too...

We had the afternoon colonial tea. You can get soup or salad or quiche. My mother got the salad and I got the quiche. It was very good. The lemon tea is amazing and I think about going there just for that frequently! The scones with real cream are delectable. My only issue when I go there is that the service is a bit on the slow side frequently, and the last time I went with my daughter and granddaughters, my granddaughters wanted their own teacups which in the past they gave to them; this time they wanted to charge me for a pot of tea that we were not getting just so she could use the cup. We didn't pay extra but because of the treat to charge my one granddaughter had to share a cup instead of having her own. it took away experience.

We really enjoyed the dinner at Reynolds. We had two 11 year olds and they found the food great also. The drinks were good. The shrimp and sausage was great. We definitely will return to this place.
