One had the snapper that was excellent and one didthe octopus salad as her entree. Again, very nice. The spring butter lettuce salad had nice portions of the lettuce and light dressing. Menu had great and varied choices that fit all tastes. Service was friendly and very well paced. We never felt rushed but were allowed time to savor each course.Both my wife's and mine food was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Portions were ample but not too large. Great place!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSee a lot of potentialI actually really liked this place aside from one thing - the server claimed the restaurant is known for their seafood, and the ceviche wasn't very good at all. The flavors were there but, the squid was so chewy and rubbery it was inedible.That being said - the rest of our food was fantastic. We went for Easter brunch and had stuffed french toast, Scottish salmon and a rock shrimp omelet. All very delicious. The atmosphere was extremely modern and trendy and the service was great.We will definitely go back, but this was a rough first experience due to the ceviche plate.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOur wait person was wonderful.Our wait person was wonderful. Overall, the food was too spicy. One salad had red pepper (unadvertised) and the cod was smothered in red pepper (unadvertised). Not a fun evening. Next time we know to ask about spiciness. Great ambience. Excellent addition to downtown Durham.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Foodie SpotThis place is a fantastic spot for those who love great food. I had the scallop appetizer and NY strip entree. Scallops were perfectly seared and paired with a hot thai sauce that perfectly married heat with flavor. The NY strip came out as perfectly medium rare as I have ever had one and the shiitake mushrooms on top were a perfect pairing. Next time I make a steak at home I will be buying shiitake mushrooms.
Ambiance is very nice even if the tables are packed a little close for my tastes. Wait staff was extremely nice and helpful - really impeccable service. And the valet literally ran to get our car when it was time to go. Everything was delicious, only the scallops were outstanding. The chef's specialty seems to be seafood. I would recommend the restaurant for foodies, however not the wine pairing. They don't appear to have a sommelier and it shows. I didn't care for being so far away from my husband (extra wide table) & so close to other customers (shared pews), but realize many nice places have this - it's just not for me. They were very accommodating when we asked to change tables despite full reservation list. Food was interesting and tasty without being pretentious. Good selection of choices. Romaine heart starter was surprising yummy. The menu always offers some innovative fusion such as "Duck and Pepper Jack Tamales". If only we lived in Durham! The portions sizes were excellent for the price. The ambiance was chic modern and very pretty. There was a large TV screen showing the chefs hard at work. There was free valet parking, which is a great help for a downtown restaurant. The service was great.
