Diner Reviews
  • "The ambiance and design of Revel is very nice. Maybe if you want to grab a drink at the bar this is a good place. Food was not great. Very bland (they even put salt on the tables, thats how bland it is). Menu options have some strange pairings. I had a brussel sprout appetizer that was undercooked and had no flavor. Fried calamari was good. For dinner I had a crab encrusted halibut that sounded delish but was over cooked. The only good part of dinner was the wine and desert. Service was also lacking. I had to repeatedly request for my water to be refilled. Sorry Revel, I wanted to like you!"

  • "NYC type restaurant in Garden City. Modern, good food fun place."

  • "We took our very close friends from Bayside for the first time on the 15th of April , and they just loved the place And we found them at the bar before we came , and they commented they loved the prices and drinks at the bar Before we eat. Then we eat and they just loved their dinners and the wine we ordered, please keep,up,the good work."

  • "Went out with friends and the atmosphere was very nice but extremely noisy . I wanted to like this place but the food was a problem. The crab cake appetizer came out warm to cool and was returned with another one being mildly warm but certainly not hot. The waitress was very nice and apologized while the manager came over and again apologized and removed it from the bill. I had the pork osso boco which was dry and had no flavor. A friend had Bronzino which was bland . The rib eye was very nice and extremely large and the tagliatelle with crab meat was good. In all the service was attentive but the food was below par for a restaurant asking the prices that the do."

  • "Confusion at desk about where to sit us, which lasted for an uncomfortable ten minutes. Food was served prior to cocktails, which were a total disappointment. After I told the server how bad my drink was i was still charged for it. Server forgot the water I asked for, he kept going outside to parking lot. Beautiful restaurant, but too expensive for lousy service."

  • "I can't believe it took me so long to find this great restaurant. (Been open since September) The first time I was at Revel was for lunch and it was fabulous from food to service to ambience. I was so happy I came back the same week for dinner with my husband. We loved the grilled octopus . My husband had the NY strip with the Revel sauce and I had the Alaskan King Salmon. Like my first visit , everything was so wonderful that we made reservations for our family to eat there on Easter Sunday . Great wine list too!"

  • "Aside from the food being mediocre, it was much too loud!"

  • "Revel was recommended to my friends and I by several different people and we felt like we just had to try. It is centrally located in Garden City at the heart of their "restaurant row". We had a reservation and were seated right away. There was a wait for those who did not have a reservation. The staff was lovely and the food very good. We especially enjoyed the meatball appetizers. The bar area was crowded and there are tables very close to that area and the entrance. Logistically it definitely could have been set up better but this is obviously the way to fit the most people into the least amount of space. I wouldn't recommend for a quiet night out (we went on a Saturday) although it might be slower at less of a prime time."

  • "Loud? Yes - just as in other reviews. Tiles on the walls will do that. Service - excellent and attentive - even though other reviews have been spotty. Ambiance? There are two rooms - one for dining (loud) and one with multiple large screen TV's to watch the important games while you are eating (louder still); both are well appointed with a cool vibe. Food - here's the big disappointment: despite good reviews and an interesting menu, the food was not edible. Why? SALT. Salt was the ingredient de jour. Everything salted and over-salted. Saltines have less salt. We complained about the salt in the appetizers, and then complained more so about the salt in the entrees - every single dish. What's going on in that kitchen??"

  • "This place is great! I went at about 915pm on Saturday night and was so impressed all around! Our table was ready and the hostess was super friendly and greeted us/seated us immediately. The food was fantastic- I ordered the NY Strip and my husband ordered the Branzino. My steak was cooked perfectly, and my husband's fish was flaky and delicious. My martini was perfect- a good bartender is such a pleasant thing! Great craft beers to choose from as well- my husband had both the Widmer alchemy and the Great South Bay Snozberry. Revel was intimate enough that we were able to hear eachother speak. I have been to Revel a handful of times, and each is more enjoyable than the next. I recommend it 110%!!!"

  • "Manhaatan comes to Garden City. Outstanding food, presentation and service. Happy and Knowledgable staff. I rate the filet mignon up there with Luger. The decor is very cool. The front bar area is very energetic and crowded. I will be back."

  • "Food was delicious. All 4 at our table order fish. Each was prepared as ordered and were delicious and beautifully plated. Service was excellent and they accommodated our separate food allergies."

  • "First impression was nice looking restaurant. Then it stopped there. Restaurant is way too loud. Two separate seating areas. We were put in the quiet section (could of fooled me). Service was terrible. They actually forgot about us. Tables on top of each other. The bar was very nice and the two cocktail waitresses were friendly and sweet."

  • "Very busy Saturday night. The food was delicious. Started with the beet salad, which is an absolute must try and then had an angus burger and French fries. The French fries are made in duck fat and are outrageous! My only advice is go with friends you have a lot to say to. The service is extremely slow and it took us over 2 1/2 hours to have dinner but, I'd definitely go again and again."

  • "the staff is excellent, the food good not great but I'm into wooden walls and sort of dark lighting. Revel is a modern place and I am not into that. I guess I'm old and this restaurant appears to be designed for a younger crowd"

  • "In all my years as a member of OpenTable I have never been as disappointed in a Restaurant as I was at Revel. It is completely overrated. Upon sitting down we were served with bread that was obviously microwaved. It was extremely hot to the touch and could have been used as hockey pucks. The presentation was something you would see at your local diner. Our beet salad was thrown together. My salmon was placed over hidden mushy asparagus and tasteless mushrooms. Then the service. If you are going to charge steak house prices please have a competent wait staff. We order a bottle of wine and had to tell the waiter not to pour to the top of the glass or he would have. It is obvious that there is poor management and training. I would avoid it."

  • "We loved the food here. the hanger steak was the juiciest and most flavorful we have ever had. also loved the harvest beet salad. come here for the food your mom would have made, if she was a chef!"

  • "We went to Revel on a icey Saturday night. we thought that the restaurant would be empty and were we wrong! We liked everything about this new place and will definitely return"

  • "This was the second restaurant that we tried based on the Newsday's article on " Best Restaurants of 2013" and once again, they got it wrong. I had to send back my Amish chicken since it was tough, chewy and dry. At that point, I simply replace it with the beet salad that was to come with watermelon, feta cheese and marcona almonds. There were no almonds and when I asked about it, I was told there weren't supposed to be any. When I checked the menu, it was definitely listed as part of the salad. They were very nice but the food TOTALLY missed the mark!"

  • "We had dinner at Revel on Valentine's Day. The food was terrific. The wedge salad was the best I have every had. Our main course of salmon was cooked perffectly. The hazelnut chocolate fondue was bountiful with fruit and the right desert to end a pefect dinner. Unfortunatley, the atmosphere is more clublike than a quiet restaurant where you may want to have a romantic dinner. I will definitely return for lunch or dinner with a group of firends when a loud noise level may not be a concern."

  • "There were bones and shells in the lobster ravioli Not to mention it looked like the size of an appetizer Then fire alarm was going off for ten minutes and the fire dept showed up in full force. Nobody apologized instead just rushed to get us the check. Our dinner was already ruined and we will never eat there again. The Manager should have had decency to apologize and offer some kind of compensation. Don't waste your money at this place there are much better restaurants in town, even across the street."

  • "We expected a 3 star but ultimately we give it 4 out of 5 stars Seating and serving was simple Food was excellent!!! Service was very good Great decor Only issue was... Fire alarms went off False alarm; eventually all went back to normal I'll leave it as a random event. Would definitely return!!"

  • "Food was great but service was lacking. They were very understaffed for one of the busiest nights of the year. They called beforehand to confirm our reservation and told us there was a 2 hour table max which i felt was a little obnoxious. it ended up being ironic because they were slow to acknowledge us and take our order when we sat down. the fire alarm went off when we were eating for over 30 minutes which made it hard to enjoy our romantic night out. Overall food was great and its a pretty place. I would give them another chance and hope they just had an off night"

  • "Our server Mike was great.. Told us the wine list was being changed which was great, most times you don't find out until they tell you there just out of wine.. Started off with Smoked Buffalo Mozz Ravioli which had great flavor.. Entrees I split the short rib and the salmon, both cooked perfect.. Can't wait to return."

  • "Decor is nice food flavor good Could not enjoy much because the noise level Was obnoxious! Most beers listed on menu were not available?? Manager nice A shame pretty place - quality chef Wouldn't chance going back way too noisy"

  • "Was surprised when Revel called to cfm res they told me we had a two hour limit at our table. I said i wouldn't have made reservation if i had known, and they said that i had booked on Open table so they couldnt tell me because i didn't make res over the phone. Then our dinner was served 10 minutes AFTER the 2 hour table limit was up. obviously they weren't going to kick us out when it was their fault our dinner took SO long! The food was fair, at best, for the price! They did treat us to dessert and coffee and took 10% off the check due to the lousy service without us asking. Won't be going back to Revel!"

  • "While I have been here several times for dinner and enjoyed it, we decided to try the Sunday Brunch. BIG disappointment ! very limited menu. I had the French toast which was good, but only two small slices of bread and nothing else on the plate. the plate looked bare. Again I love the place for dinner, but they need to improve their Sunday Brunch menu."

  • "We were first timers and after reading the reviews we weren't sure. From the moment we walked in the door everyone was friendly. We were meeting people and they were already at the bar but there was no pressure to rush to our table. Steve, our waiter, was friendly, informative and fun. The food was cooked perfectly, the wine list covered every type and every pocketbook. The owner, Jim, even sent us desserts to try. Afterwards we sat at the bar for a nightcap before leaving and the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We will definitly be back."

  • "They have a very bad problem with acoustics here. Tall concrete ceilings with loud talking/shouting bouncing all over the place. Just wanted to leave to get away from the headache causing ambiance. It's a shame because from the outside, looks like a great high end spot. Food was good. Portion size was really small for the price. Service effort was there, they're just far from good at being servers. Was hoping to really like this place. May give it a second try down the road - if it's still around."
