A word from Le Vieux Logis
Welcome to Le Vieux Logis!

A long time Bethesda favorite, Le Vieux Logis offers a newly inspired French menu and wine list, perfect for intimate dinners, cozy nights out and quiet conversation with friends and colleagues. The kitchen showcases flavorful French recipes that change slightly with the season and the availability of locally sourced ingredients. Authentically French, the restaurant has the feel of a bistro with a French country flavor. Joyful colors on crisp white tablecloths feel warm and yet curious.

Le Vieux Logis is under new ownership (since January), but the food is better than ever: lamb chops were thick and perfectly prepared (we haven't seen chops like this for years!), as were the vegetables; the scallops were perfectly seared, and the softshell crab appetizer--almost a meal unto itself--was delicious and simply amazing. The chef is to be commended for putting out dishes that tease one's taste buds and then delights them with every bite. The ambiance remains warm even though some of the interesting decorations have changed. It is a joy to dine where the chef and hostess take such pride in delighting their customers.

The fare is nothing short of delicious, and the presentation is appealing. The service leaves nothing to be desired. The ambiance is "gentle" -- quiet enough to hear the words of your dining partners. All in all, a perfect experience.

Everything about the meal we had deserves praise: Vieux Logis is under new management, but if anything it is even better than before. They offered an abundance of specials, but anything from the main menu is probably just as good. I can particularly recommend the duck confit.

This neighborhood institution in Bethesda has a new owner from France, who is also the chef. His wife works the front of the restaurant and together they've injected some new life into what was already an excellent local find under the previous management/owners. Prices are up slightly but so is the sophistication of the revised menu that now features more locally originated ingreedients. All the classic French dishes like coq au vin are still there. The Scandanavian items are gone and are replaced with local/French hybrids like sauteed Rockfish.

The mussels were outstanding; the coq au vin was overcooked, dry, and tough. I would try again, though, and might get the French onion soup and mussels. Other items seemed pretty good. Service was excellent. Maybe just a bad night for the coq au vin.

Made a reservation about a month out and was given a lousy table right in front door next to a dirty cleaning closet. MD overwhelmed and not much use, thought table OK but offered another. The restaurant is rammed clearly because it Mothersday and they want to get as many covers as possible. Staff were under resourced and running from here to there, no time to be nice, food dumped, service timing was laughable, loooong waits between courses, 2 medium rare steaks came out almost raw. At the eventual end bill was wrong. Had many happy meals in this place but will not be going back.

Vieux Logis was a good choice for our party of six: the table was small and the setting cozy. Although the restaurant was very noisy, we were able to hear each other. The food was very good--I had the scallops with an asparagus risotto. Each of our friends enjoyed his/her entree. We split a Baked Alaska for dessert, which was spectacular to behold and lent a special finish to the evening.

After seeing a recent review in The Washington Post, we made a special effort to have Sunday dinner at Le Vieux Logis. Ambience, food, service were excellent. The quiet, serene Old World atmosphere was restorative and reminded us what fine dining used to be like. Happily it is alive and well at Le Vieux Logis.

We had a great time and a fantastic meal here on Saturday. We enjoyed the asparagus soup, the veal kidneys, and the roasted shrimp. Everything was just delicious! We had baked Alaska and chocolate terrine for dessert and both were excellent. The service was also excellent. The restaurant was busier than I've ever seen it - I think the word has gotten out about how good the new chef/owner is. This restaurant has made a huge change for the better. We look forward to returning soon.

We thought the restaurant had closed. When we saw the Post review a few weeks ago, we knew it was still there, under new management The review was quite favorable too. The food, the service, the ambiance were just what we expected - excellent, maybe a tad better than before. The Baked Alaska was a real treat!

We had been here in December prior to the change in ownership and were underwhelmed. We had little incentive to come back, but when we heard that the ownership and chef changed (and hearing that Christian Gautrois had taken over), we knew we had to come back. The menu has been updated, but some of the favorites remain. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The calves liver is divine and the Dover sole is just wonderful. The soups that this chef makes are phenomenal and the oysters on the half shell are delicious. The souffles were excellent as well. We will return soon.

Ate at Le Vieux Logis on Friday evening with a group of friends and co-workers. We had just accomplished a great task and so were set to celebrate and the wait staff and chefs at Le Vieux Logis did not disappoint! I had eaten here in the past on many occasions and was disappointed to hear that the service and quality of the established had decline in recent years, but with the new ownership and staff the restaurant is again a five star experience for me. My party and I could not have been treated more hospitably and warmly as we were that evening. Each course was presented with flair and creativity, and the taste was superb and highly inspiring! Thank you very much for making this special occasion much more memorable and excellent!

New chef owner has upgraded an old favorite. People will still recognized the basic menu, but with new additions and some familiar items prepared differently. Wine list is not large, but great variety and priced very fairly. Single wine pours are more than generous. The escargot was beyond wonderful. Nice specials add to what is already a very good menu.

This was our second time dining at Le Vieux Logis since the new chef took over. We were fans of his from when he was at Praline. The our main courses were absolutely delicious. We ordered the skatefish and the lamb shank. Both were excellent- this chef really knows his stuff. The dishes were so nicely seasoned and the sauces were so light and delicate. We started with oysters, which were good and we ordered a souffle of exotic fruits, which was an unexpected treat. We will return soon.

We went based upon positive reviews. This would have been an ok meal at half the price. Paper placemats with a Seasons Greeting theme the first week of February was out first clue. Onion soup was weak and undistinguished. Service was hit or miss. I ordered a second glass of wine mid way through the meal, never received it, but was charged for it. Food was mediocre at best. My guess is that the owner is selling and has lost interest in pleasing his / her clientele.

This is a quiet restaurant, nice for those of us who wish to talk with our companions rather than dine in deafening silence. It also used to have very fine food. Recent meals have been an attempt at the 'foodie' style of serving dinner as if it were an architectural structure, with everything piled on top of everything else. Tastes are smooshed, not blended, and nothing is as good as it was. Not likely to return.

We had dinner there on Friday for the first time in 20 years. It has changed little since. The service was very good and the staff was very helpful in answering questions we had about the menu. The menu offers lots of variety, and our meals arrived quickly after ordering. I ordered Dover Sole meuniere, which was not what I was expecting. The fish was overcooked, the meuniere sauce was really just melted butter- not clarified, and the lemon was on the side instead of in the sauce. The parsley was also on the side- sort of a DIY meuniere. I'd had this same dish several times at La Chaumiere and loved it. Oh well. The menu needs updating, especially the desserts. The service was quite good, though.

My wife and I and our good friends celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary at the Le Vieux Logia. This was our first time at this restaurant and I chose it based on its reputation for food and ambiance. I was not disappointed. Everything was as expected for this fine dinning restaurant. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but the food and portion size more than made up for the slow service. We will return!

I had been wanting to go to Le Vieux Logis for a while now. We finally went, and it certainly exceeded my expectations! It is now my new favorite place in the entire DC Metropolitan area. The place is even cuter and cozier on the inside than on the outside (and it is pretty darn cute from the outside!). Words are not enough to express just how cute and cozy it is! And the food did not disappoint either. We started with the French onion soup, which was really delicious. I then had the Australian lamb chops, which were honestly the best lamb chops I have ever had in the U.S. - hands down! My husband had the duck, which was a bit dry for my taste, but was still very good, nonetheless. The service was courteous and attentive. We will be back!

A very quaint French restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was good. The hostess could use a little training in customer service and not be so rude when someone asks a question about the parking situation which is misleading at the start. We mentioned in the beginning that one of our diners had allergies and they were able to accommodate a different sauce for his meal, but when we ordered dessert, we were not told that there was nuts in the ice cream and almost had a medical issue on our hands. A little advice would be to train the waiters/waitresses regarding food allergies.

HOW DOES SHE DO IT? Diana teases me with specialties from Denmark yet also offers French classics. She imports her Danish Herring and serves my favorite appetizer along with ice-cold Akavit in frosted glasses. I decide to not dwell on the Nordic specialities but choose as a main course the Duck a l'orange. My companions swoon over their cold Oysters followed by a filet mignon sauteed with Madeira. Neighboring diners introduce themselves and repeat the sounds of pleasure and laughter coming from our table. Suddenly the secret becomes clear: This is NOT simply your ordinary restaurant but is rather a nightly dining "happening," a combination of warmth and richly delightful and tasty highlights all orchestrated by Diana and her amazing staff!

I LOVE this place! The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, the staff is very nice and friendly, it's one of the few places where you can go and actually have a conversation with the people at your table without having to shout all evening. The food is spectacular here. I had the new seasonal fall salad that had arugula, prosciutto, & fresh figs, and for dinner I had the lamb chops that were perfectly seasoned and cooked!! For dessert I had the fruit tart which was just scrumptious, and they have delicious coffee here as well. This is one of the few remaining non-chain restaurants around & I think the owner really does an excellent job! I like supporting small businesses whenever I can, & this place is at the top of my list.

This restaurant has a very amiable owner and nice staff. Its fairly small, very colorful, cozy and quiet, although there is a pleasant atmosphere of gaiety and celebration. Patronized by older generations, this is a nice place to relax after a hard days work with a friend. Conversation is easy as one doesn't have to yell to make oneself heard. Main courses, including wonderful lamb chops and excellent trout, are very well prepared and delicious. Clams Casino were rubbery, but oysters were good. I would have expected some dessert crepes, but don't remember seeing any on the menu. Reasonably priced, though not cheap by any means, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys French cuisine, a full bar and a quiet, cheering evening. 4 stars!

We visited Le Vieux Logis in Bethesda, MD and, as before, our meals were outstanding. Among my many favorite dishes there, I think my very favorite starter is the Baked Oysters served in a champagne sauce with caviar although their signature appetizer of Danish Herring is delicious as well. Actually, all of the meals I have ever had there are cooked and presented to perfection whether it be the Tuesday special of Fish and Chips “Copenhagen Style” made with a lightly breaded Icelandic Cod, their classic Dover Sole or their Australian Lamb Chops grilled with a fresh tarragon sauce. This, together with the warm, friendly and attentive staff make it more than a meal. It is a dining event. Please try it yourselves. You will always be WELCOME!
