We had a great server which is something we value quite highly and know it can make good food become a bad dining experience without it. The food was delicious and the ambiance was really nice too. The brownie sundae was out of this world and we paired it with a rusty nail from the bartender which was perfect :)

Boundary Road is fantastic... staff knows their stuff, the chef and his team make amazing food. Chef Brad Walker seems to have a true gift for meat. The cocktails are off-kilter and yet classic. The wine list is brief but well thought out and covers all the bases, and there is a constantly-changing and yet consistent beer list. A neighborhood joint that makes you wish you lived in that neighborhood.

Our food was quite good and the atmosphere was very nice. Service was a little slow, largely because our poor server seemed to be having to cover the bar as well (the bartender didn't seem to be able to handle more than two customers at the bar). However, our server was really nice and was doing her best! (Food was slow, too.) And it is a pleasant place to be! I would go back for the fish, and for the risotto dish.

Boundary Road is almost someplace I would return to regularly but in several areas falls flat. The portions can be undersized. The pacing is slow, far too much of a gap between appetizers and the main course. There appears to be inconsistency of the quality of food, although that was observed by follow diners rather than myself. Being seated by the kitchen window is noisy and distracting, granted for some they find it enjoyable. Overall I enjoyed it but am doubtful we shall return.

This was my second time at Boundary Road. The first time, with four people, the service was fantastic and the food was even better. This time around, also with four people, the some of the food was really outstanding and some were just okay. The most disappointing thing, however, was the service. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable but I expected a little more attention to the timing of our food. I expected the main course to take a while but it took too long to get the appetizer. The server also forgot to check on some of our drinks. Overall, it was fine but I'm not chomping at the bit to go back again.

Cheese and meat starter was nice sampler for group of 6. Crab soup was hearty and served nice and hot as soup should be. Entrees were filling with sides of mashed potatoes and seasonal veges - brick chicken could have used a tad more seasoning. Brownie dessert was nice finish. Drinks and wine were refreshing. Overall experience was above expectations. Recommend for group of 6. Service was just right with recommendations when asked for but allowed our group to enjoy our own space and company.

I had the honor of organizing a group dinner before a concert on H Street. I had to change the reservation a total of three times, and BR was completely accommodating and nice about it. Dinner was great. The food was tasty. The highlight of the drink menu is a cocktail called, "I'm Thinking About Getting a Vespa." Best.cocktail.name.ever. The ambiance is very H Street. Trendy/hipster vibe. Fitting for the area. The service was fantastic. Overall, great dining experience.

With all of the new places cropping up in this neighborhood, restaurants and bars really need to put forth a solid effort if they want to stick around. Don't get me wrong, the rusted metal mattress transformed into a light fixture hanging from the ceiling was cool and all, but it would have been cooler if our server was actually attentive (like, maybe offered us dessert), the food wasn't bland and a tad too pricey, and I didn't go home still starving. It was a Monday night and not very busy, so there's really no excuse. I really do like the decor and the bar looked like a fun place to hang (my cocktail was very good), but I don't think I'll be returning for a meal.

Really enjoyed my visit here Sunday night. Really no complaints. • Boundary Road A Delightful Surprise
    Rich
    Dined on 1/17/2014
Physically, Boundary Road looks like most of the other newer restaurants on Capitol Hill -- "railroad flat" design, stripped-down furnishings, bar running the length of the room, wood accoutrements, etc. But there is nothing ordinary about the food, which is imaginative without being fey, sized just right, and absolutely delicious. I had the "Hunter's Plate" -- duck leg confit with sausage -- and my wife ate the risotto with faro: both deeply satisfying dishes. The service, warm and efficient, was just right. What more can I say? If I owned the place, I'd add a little color to the decor and put in a fireplace -- but this would just be icing the cake. We will be back!

I had my favorite local hangout spot that the neighborhood folks loved. The business closed and the gang scattered to different locations. I would past by the restaurant and I knew some important folks had dined there but never entered myself. On a recommendation from one of my old bar mates, I decided to give it a try. It was amazing. The waitress explained some of the dishes, "we tend to get asked about these often" and we tried them out. We started with the Quark and PIEROGI which was delicious so much so I had ordered another to go. I had the buttered roasted chicken goodness that was so succulent that the portion I had left for lunch tasted just as good as if I was in the restaurant. I will be back especially since its close.

Excellent meal. Bison short ribs had lots of flavor and fell apart with my fork. Loved the garlic broccoli. Brick chicken was moist and flavorful. The mint ice cream on the brownie sundae had just the right punch. Service was a little slow, but overall a very nice evening.

Service was phenomenal and our waitress was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu choices....which were all phenomenal.

I've eaten at Boundary Road several times while in DC for business. However, this was my husband's first visit. We loved everything about it. Interesting cocktails, wonderfully different beer selections. The Foie Gras PBJ is not to be missed. The entrees are simply wonderful. I've never had a negative experience with any of the dishes I've tried. I ALWAYS try whatever Chef Brad Walker suggests. Simply wonderful...and dessert is not to be missed.

Given the great reviews we were looking forward to dining at Boundary Road, but there were problems. The Maryland Crab Soup was spicy (in a good way) with crunchy vegetables, but no discernable crabmeat. We ordered a meat and cheese plate but the Pate was not available and two of the four cheese selections were Blue Cheese! The salami and cheeses were delicious but the portions were small. For entrees we ordered the Flank Steak and the Risotto. I assume there were timing problems, as the steak was cold while the Risotto was perfectly cooked and delicious. For dessert I highly recommend the Zeppoles. They were great. Management dealt with the problems and took several items off the bill. Hopefully they were having a bad night!

The restaurant was very nice. I had traveled all the way from Boston just to eat here; but I was not very trilled. The menu was very small and I did not have much to choose from. Especially with three people all trying to order different things we struggled. I got the fish and my mother and sister got the brick chicken. Everything was delicious; except the bread that was a little too charred.

i don't usually write these but feel moved so to do. we have been late to sample boundary road's offering. we loved that the restaurant was unstuffy. yet, there was an understated sophistication in how we were attended to from the host/greeter to the wait staff(this sophistication is lacking even in the stuffy places). we were blown away by the attention and creativity to the menu's offerings on our 11-23-13 visit. it was a pleasant surprise. the common theme is that it is american cuisine rendered in a very refreshing way.

Dimmly lit with a very cozy feel describes the ambience. We statred with perfectly prepared hand cut fries. All four in my party had the brick chicken, which was succulent and flavorful (although, $23 for roast chicken...even excellent roast chicken...seemed a bit overpriced) but the summer squash, sweet potato greens, baby golden beets, okra, buttery mashed potatoes, with roasting jus sent it over the top. The sides complimented the main and served as enough justification for the price. We all ordered cocktails and local craft beer. The cocktail "I'm Thinking About Getting A Vespa" was well prepared but not what we had in mind as far as sweetness level since it was very bitter. No room was left for dessert. True gem in N.E. D.C.!!!

If you like tight spaces, dining in the dark and loud people, then by all means, go for it. Expected better food after seeing it on the menu but it was just ok (had the oily fries for the appetizer but the dipping made up for it.; for entree, had the steak which needed more seasoning, the cauliflower was overcooked, kale was good tho). Waitress was rude (a little beforehand info...im Deaf) asking me if I read lips and talked only to my date that night making me feel like I wasnt there. So for other Deafies (the spot is in the heart of Gallaudet), I'd steer clear of this place.
